Science Fiction References in Music

Don't forget several songs by Blue Öyster Cult, although these aren't really a surprise... -
I dunno, that doesn't say "GSX" to me. It looks like a tuner VW to me. I guess I am guilty of expecting new itinerations of older cars to somhow maintain the spirit of the model. When I think GSX I think of its cousin the Chevelle...an aggresive mix of curves and hard lines...kinda says "speed-brick" to me. This thing could be alright...but just give it a new name. I said it about the charger, I'll say it again: Those who care about the name will be unimpressed, those who want the car for its own merits won't care what its called. If you are going to revive a classic name...do it for a reason.

How could this be a quilty pleasure? Why would you feel guilty for enjoying such a classic? As far as I know, everyone with a working brain enjoys Spinal Tap"

No offence intended, but that seems only slightly less nerdy. And what it lacks in nerdiness it makes up for in mean-spiritedness.

Ahh, thanks for the pic. Are you sure the TA is a '70? I didn't think the '70s had text on the shaker...at least mine doesn't. Fun cars I tell ya.

nope, they are attachment points for the alpha

well, I got several of mine from this place: http://www.akadotretail.com/shop/shop_showbook.php?id=fssset but you might be able to find a better deal on some at ebay. I got great deals on abebooks or bookfinder (can't remember which), but since the sellers don't have photos and very limited descriptions, I had to search using the ISBN numbers, which was very time consuming. you shouldn't have any trouble getting all 26 using these three sources though. good luck.

1) I don't know anything about discontinued. The author takes his time between volumes, and FSS could be considered to be on hiatus at the moment. 2) The american/translated versions should be pretty easy to come by on ebay and on-line shops (that's where I got all mine). The japanese versions are broken into several american volumes, so the 10 or so japanese manga issues have resulted in 26 american issues. 3) The story isn't finished, but it isn't really linear anyhow. The entire timeline is already layed out (at the back of each volume), but the manga is more about the characters and the details of the epic events than the "meta-story." The manga jumps around from era to era, place to place, and character to chracter (even dimension to dimension at times), so I wouldn't expect the story to ever really get "finished" in a traditional sense.

damn! I had my fingers crossed, but I was really doubtful about the beta/tread. this is really exciting news. I look forward to seeing this project develop. sweet.

Well, I have gotten over the lack of this particular variant's accuracy...my copy leaves me a bit disappointed. Although none of these Alphas have been worth $80, I was pretty happy with the first three. But my shadow just doesn't seem to fit together well. There is nothing I can quite put my finger on as a particular problem...the whole thing just isn't doesn't go together that well. The arched back problem is more prominent than on my others. It is impossible to stand it up so it doesn't look lame. The arms cannot be completely compacted AND fit into the leg holes in fighter mode. Plus, the stickers are not totally transparent which makes them look cheap (this was much less of a problem on the other, lighter alphas). Overall, I'm glad to have it...but mine (#1832) is pretty poor quality, considering the wait and cost.

New Robotech Transformable Toy Coming...
Phyrox replied to VALKYRIE-EXCHANGE.COM's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Take MGREXX and his claims with a big grain of salt. He didn't even get the colors right on his lies. No blue beta? Scott's cyc. as blue? No sir, I don't believe it. -

My totally unsolicited opinion: It had better be a Beta/Tread That is the only thing I would buy at least. Although I know a lot of people would love to see a cyclone/mospeada. I can't see anything else being released, as they seem to have had at least some trouble unloading such high profile items as the VF-1 and Alpha so releasing an SDF-1 or hovertank would be a bad idea. -
You mean to ask if it is CANON, not CANNON. saying what you mean is important.

The Tim Burton '89 Batmobile is the best looking in my opinion. The only good looking one actually. I have actually seen one of the extant old Lincoln-based batmobiles on the road, out here in Temecula CA. I don't think it was a modern replica because anyone who would have put that much effort into the car would have done cosmetic AND engine work...and that thing sounded like it hadn't been tuned up in my lifetime. It was cool to see though.

Yeah it was. UCAV = Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle

Just to note: The Bismarck wasn't sunk by aricraft. It was sunk by naval gunfire. The aircraft only disabled its steering (which is obviously important, but not quite the same as sinking it). And those aircraft weren't WWI, they were interwar designed Swordfishes. Just because it is a biplane doesn't mean it is WWI. The Swordfish is much better than any WWI bomber.

From the advertisments, it seems to be a TV version of the book "Expedition" by Barlowe. So the tag line "see what scientists think is out there" is a bit of a stretch. Don't get me wrong, I like the book, but it was one guys imagination, not a scientific exercise. Written from the point of view of a member of a scientific observation mission, there is lots of description on appearance, movement, behavior...but very little on the hard science. If you go in with this in mind, I think it will be OK.

Looking at this model box: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models/arii/ar306-7b.jpg It seems that Rigaado/Ligaado is indeed the katakana for the Regult. So I guess it is a 1/35 enemy mech...can't say I was holding my breath for this, but I guess it will be cool.

The VEFR looks to be based on the VF-1D, not the DYRL VT/VE two-seater. So I don't think basing the conversion on the VE-1 would be the right way to go. Plus, I imagine most people who would mess with resin conversion parts would probably want to go the model (i.e. 1/72) route.

For the most part, MW's model-makers pretty much decide what they will build by starting their own polls. I have never seen someone say, "hey, I want X"...and then have it get made. Usually you see a poll from one of them listing a few possibilities for their next project, and they build the winner. Or, if you have enough cash, you might want to post in the Wanted forum (or maybe here) regarding a one of a kind commission. Good luck.

Nope, it was more of a "everyone wants to get along, but one bad group ruins it for everybody." Doesn't really do justice to the complex motivations or situation of the period, but it is only a popcorn movie.

It was an alright movie...a bit hamfisted though. And they watered down everybody. Saladin was a puppy dog, the Hospitallar knight was more a deist that a christian... And some of the resolution and plot points felt really forced. Scott has done better. It was a solid B, enjoyable to a point, but not great.

head, big hands, small mouth, wide and it seems to have the same problem nearly all Millia fan art does...besides the green hair it looks nothing like Millia

I like to think of it as a blending of all the best design cues of Ford's best selling muscle in that era, and melding them into a unique, aggressive looking car. Oh yeah, the blind spots are a sonofabitch, I'll concede that. But as Franco Bertollini said: "What's-a-behind me, does not-a-matter." I'd agree...I like it.
