1. Unless Ford did something important for the military (especially the Navy), his name wouldn't be on the list. 417361 They used to stick by those rules, but the navy has gotten really loose with what qualifies as "significant contribution to the navy" in its naming conventions. Lincoln, sure. Nimitz, sure. Stennis? Reagan? If they qualify, I'm sure Ford does.
2. I say we switch over to British names for our vessels. States and cities and politicians are not suitable for a ship of the line. Agamemnon, Warspite, Black Prince, and Onslaught...compared to Texas, Lincoln, Sullivan Brothers, and Atlanta? Although the Brits have a good share of county and country named ships as well... At least bring back the fish and fish-related names for submarines. It really gave the U.S. submarine force a unique feel.
3. Just for references sake, I don't think Optimus Prime has EVER been a Mack truck.
4. I'd vote either mospeada or gall force. How about an "Artmic" line. Yeah, I'd buy that.
5. 1) That's a pretty cheap ticket/penalty. I wouldn't even worry about it. 2) My philosophy on tickets is that since we all speed and/or violate traffic laws all the time and get away with it, you should really just think of tickets as the price of admission. Sometimes they bust you when they should have nabbed someone else...most of the time you run a light or fly down the freeway with no repurcussions. Honestly, I just count any tickets as a random fine for car ownership. Takes all the stress out of it for me. 3) In my experiance (personal, family, and friends), it is extremely hard to get out of a ticket. You might end up saving some cash, but it doesn't seem worth the effort to me. So, I guess I understand your frustration, but given the difficulty of fighting it, the big picture, and the fairly light penalty; I say don't sweat it. ps- of course, if the option exists, do traffic school. Some places you pay the ticket, AND do traffic school, other places you pay a lesser fine and do traffic school. Either way this is a must.
6. I think that the Italian clubs from which some of the players come are under investigation for referee tampering and whatnot, but the players themselves are not under any investigatory cloud. At least from everything that I have read.
7. It's true that single-car teams have a very slim chance of winning, but at least you don't see the same two drivers win every month. 414737 I was given to understand that Nascar's lack of consistantly dominant drivers was due to the over-homogeneity forced by the rules. F1 has been far from unlimited of course, but Nascar racers are damn near identical. Or so I hear.
8. Raptor is just another word for bird of prey (from the latin). Velociraptors are, if I remember correctly, about the size of dogs. Bigger than chickens, smaller than the things in the movie.
9. I think "legs" usually refers to range/endurance, not speed, when talking about aircraft.
10. I agree that the best thing about AS is the rereuns of Family Guy and Futurama. Although, I must admit that after three episodes, Aqua Teen grew on me quite a bit, and Robot Chicken has had a few (and I mean few) sketches that were really good. The same can't be said for the other shows though. It's as if they realized that quirky can be cool/funny, as so decided to make all their shows super quirky, all the time. Doesn't work. I HATE Sea Lab, I HATE minoriteam, I HATE Squibles, I HATE tom goes to the mayor, I HATE just about all their shows.
11. Sorry to burst you're bubble, (on good authority) this ain't gonna happen. Now or never. 414283 Where did you hear this? People on the RT.com forums have seemingly received messages from Toynami saying they do infact plan on releasing the planned Beta in 2007. And they have never retracted their statement that it will connect to the Alpha. I myself am somewhat skeptical, but I don't see how you can be so sure... Who is your authority?
12. Yah, that was the weak link in the movie for me as well. That and the "everyone loves small towns if you give them a try" message. There is a reason small towns are small.
13. All I was expecting was that it would: A) Not suck. B) Not put me to sleep. It failed on both.
14. So...you wanna know if you could build a miniature Me-262 "ish" aircraft? Can't see why not. The engine technology seems to be there, the design itself has been proven, what would the problem be? I've seen 1/2 scale Fw-190s, I don't think this would be appreciably different.
15. I will never understand how anyone can really like the Macross music. Such bad 80s synth-pop...and I have been known to dig 80s music from time to time... I get the nostalgia for the rest of the show, even with its occasionally poorly animated stretches, but the music? I just don't get it. It sucks. Bad. Of course the Robotech songs are worse, but that does not excuse the trash that a lot of macross fans seem to fawn over. M+ had good music, DYRL had some good BGM...and THAT IS IT. I know that musical taste is very subjective, but could someone try to put into words what is good in any way about this Mari Iijima's songs?
16. Well, they were practicing for an airshow, and the pilot seemed to have a reputation for showboating in the BUFF. From my reading the consensus has been that he unfartunately pushed the envelope too far this time and entered into a manuever from which there was no recovery. Just an accident. An avoidable accident probably, but an accident.
17. I am in love. THAT is the kind of design I can get behind. People can say what they will about retro styling, but if done right it works. And to me, this works. It could be that I think the golden age of automotive styling was the 1930s though, which this obviously draws heavily on.
18. Well, I've never actually raced one, but I bet a 1970 Monte Carlo 454 would surprise anyone. It LOOKS like one of the many crappy american cars from the mid-70s, but has the heart of one of the meanest muscle cars ever. I used to have a 70 454 Chevelle (LS5). 454 power with Monte Carlo looks = sleeper extraordinaire
19. Well, I don't have any of my Alphas with me, but since it looks pretty obvious that they went for battloid accuracy over fighter accuracy, I would compare the battloids supposed height to the toynami's height to get an approximate scale.
20. Although not the most famous of the gundam franchise, I suggest watching 08th mobile suit team and 0080: war in the pocket. That is as good as gundam gets.
21. The red furball monster thingy isn't the abominable snowman, it's Gossamer. Only in a few cartoons though.
22. And then you would sit for an hour to watch what amounts to 5-6 minutes of real information, and even that dumbed down.
23. I believe Brooklyn Red Leg is our own 1st Border Red Devil. Although there is a chance I am mistaken here.
24. Less car-care talk, more car-everythingelse talk please. Here's a question: Anyone here have experiance driving particularly old (50s and pre-war vintage) automobiles? I am starting to get into some of these cars, but it's all books and video so far. I'm interested in what the experiance is like.
25. Just to nitpick...penultimate means next to last. The sentence doesn't make much sense as read. Maybe it's because I am grading papers and am up to my armpits in misused words. No offense intended.
