I'd put money on this just being a metal version of the Imai 1/48. And I don't think it'll be a "new take," I think it'll be a near exact copy. Along the same lines as the Aoshima Aliens Dropship.

If I can't play a minotaur, I don't want any part of it.

That's crazy. I remember this video my buddy had of carrier crashes/mishaps over the 60s and 70s...lots of crusaders crushing their undercarriages and whatnot. There was this botched F-8 trap where he went over the port side after hitting the deck, and I swear it was the most impressive recovery I've seen. He must have been traveling in the dozens of knots at best, with a 40+ degree up attitude, wrestling the control surfaces to keep him from going into the drink. The tape didn't have any commentary, so I don't know anything about it besides that it was damned impressive.

Model/toy makers of mecha probably spend much more attention to the scaling of the actual mecha than the pilot. Always measure the mecha to figure scale.

I would much rather see Turn X.

I don't think anyone has been arguing that. The problem is people who can't draw well usually realize such. People who can't write usually don't. So usually we get quality visual art, and everyone and their english drop-out cousin writes. The art on RPG websites is another story...I don't think anyone would defend that stuff I'll just say that, as difficult as it is for me to explain the unique distaste for fan fiction, the fact that I have never once read any that was any good is not a bad justification.

I don't mean to sound condescending, really I don't. But even reading synopses of fan-fiction make me feel like a 12 year old. Like I said, I admit to getting a great deal of enjoyment from some "immature" things...but fan-fiction is in its own category. As has been said, it is nearly universally bad (of course, you're thinking "I'll write one of the few good ones." No you won't), but I don't know if that is its only failing. I can't exactly put my finger on what it is, but there is something much, much lamer about fan-fiction than say...a nicely drawn fan mecha. I don't know what it is, but I can feel it. I am perfectly happy with this board's tacit "no fan-fiction" policy.

I am just going to chime in again, amid the excitement over this new Tread and express my displeasure at some of the liberties. Please, CM people...give us a Tread that looks a bit closer to the line art, if you please. Make the legs a bit more angular with larger nozzles, and make the cockpit larger and not so droopy. I don't care if you need to remove the cockpit for transformation and/or Legioss connectivity...I just want my first Treat to look like the Tread I've loved for so many years. About the Legioss...go crazy. The chest intakes look not-so-good, but as I have a fairly accurate "Alpha," I don't mind the changes at all.

Well both of the women, and the one guy I know who saw it said it was hilariously over-the-top and braindead...so I guess milage certianly varies.

I actually do know the pronounciation AND definition of nitpick, believe it or not. I'm just trying to be helpful. Some people don't know the diffence, I thought I'd try to contribute to their education in a very small way.

I would imagine the people would take care of that. Or you just rely on the species that don't include insect polination in their reproductive cycle. Not an insurmountable problem.

You rock. Plain and simple. Thanks for sharing, and sorry I can't help with the translation.

I dunno, the Spiderman films have been the only superhero movies I've liked since...superman 1 & 2 when I was a kid. These are the only recent superhero movies that seem like real movies, apart from their superhero/comic aspect. X-men stuff is alright, but feels kinda flat, and the new batman...I already forgot that I saw that one.

I gotta say, that thing looks like poo. It's cool that it works and all that, but it's hard to get excited about a BTR look-alike with trick wheels. But maybe I'm in the minority.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
Phyrox replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
In an interview posted recently in one of these threads. For my money, I don't care WHY characters don't appeal to me. If they don't, they don't. I don't care who the author's intended audience is, if I'm watching it, then I get to judge it. -
Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
Phyrox replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
It looks enough like the logan to suck, and not enough like Ed-209 not to. -
What I meant was what were the "historically accurate" films that have done poorly at the box office. Anybody with eyes knows about the historical fiction in movies, that was not my question.

Which movies would those have been?

When to throw out the kit you're just not enjoying...!
Phyrox replied to cowie165's topic in Model kits
never destroy a kit, put it in the spare parts box, or the model-graveyard box. You never know when you are kit-bashing something and think, "what would work great here is an Su-22 intake spike, or a vertical stabalizer." I don't know how many projects were made easier by having a ready supply of parts doners, but I'm sure it's a large percentage. But academy, they suck. I'd just stop now. The sooner you stop the less paint you have to strip and parts you have to disassemble when it comes time to operate on it. -
Which company would you want to make toys for the new Macross series?
Phyrox replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
Which company do I WANT to make new Macross stuff? Bandai. They have rarely let me down. Yamato on the other hand...has. Yamato gets points for actually making cool macross products, but if Bandai stepped up I'd buy from them. Plus bandai seems to have the deep pockets to do more varied and frequent releases. -
Israel has fought major air-to-air campaigns since Vietnam. Pilots of all of that nation's recent wars will tell you the value of a gun on a fighter. Missiles have become a more reliable and preferred method of engaging your enemy, but there will be occasions when a gun is indispensable. Guns aren't outmoded for any power that wants effective, versatile fighter aircraft.

I gotta say, those mecha designs are lamers. Stuff like this is why I have to rate kawamori as a one-hit wonder mecha designer. Nothing iconic here, just more of the same forgetable stuff he's been doing for the last decade

Idroplano da caccia sperimentale Savoia S.21.
Phyrox replied to F-ZeroOne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Is that 1/48? The kit version has pretty extensive interior detail, as well as decent gun troughs. Looks like you pay more, for less detail. Still a cool display piece. -
Idroplano da caccia sperimentale Savoia S.21.
Phyrox replied to F-ZeroOne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I thought this was a topic about the real S.21 and early Schneider Trophy planes. But the Porco Rosso plane is pretty cool too. Doesn't look anything like an S.21 though, no matter what they want to call it. How much was this? And why didn't they do something more detailed with those gun troughs?
