You're on the internet. That's all some people need to know.

If I recall correctly, the name Mustang was the British name for the American produced fighter (designed for a Brit. requirement), and the name stuck. Despite a brief stint as the A-36 Apache in early USAAF service.

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru Witch from Mercury
Phyrox replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Because I knew I wasn't going to be watching a 50 episode series very often. I like the story, and since I already know it, I will subconsciously fill in any gaps created by dodging editing of the movies. I like Zeta, but not enough to spend another, what...20 hours watching it.- 3575 replies

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru Witch from Mercury
Phyrox replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Has anyone heard anything about the US release of the Zeta compilation movies? I sold off my Zeta series in anticipation of this...and it looks like I got burned (I got that series damn cheap too!)- 3575 replies

I was referring to this statement: "But yes, taking down Tu-95s with 50 cals would be VERY satisfying" But thanks for bringing me up to speed on modern weapons.

Until I see the Tread in Armo-Bomber mode I can't say for sure, but it looks alright. And the Legioss looks, well...worse. Maybe the long nose it used to have (which I sorta liked) distracted from the "brick with stub wings" that the rest of the Armo-Fighter mode has going on, but it doesn't look so good. It could be the lighting, but now I think we can see why the nose used to be so long; to distract the eye from the armored ball made up of the legs and arms.

Those are precisely the problems I have with the Tread as well. If it is as overpriced as those ride-armors though, they can count me out in all likelihood. I love Mospeada mecha, but I don't pay that kind of money for toys.

Macross 25th Anniversary and upcoming new TV series thread
Phyrox replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I really don't think companies get licenses to make toys in "this scale," or "that scale." They get either exclusive licenses, where they make the only products in a given media, or a non-exclusive license. If Bandai has the license, I wager they are a big and weighty enough company to have pulled an exclusive license. -
Seconded.

25 episodes would suit me fine. Anything longer than that is too long. If you can't tell a compelling story in 10 hours, you don't have a story worth telling. Filler episodes can be alright, but for the most part I like my stories tight. -
I love the dash, machine turned metal is right on for the retro-feel. That's what my T/A came with, and although later 2nd gen T/As are disco-like in their gaudiness the 70 T/A is not.

I never respond just to post a "lol..." but I'm a vocab stickler, and this is too funny.

A Tu-95 derivative is the fastest production propeller driven AC in the world. Chances are the sleeker bomber version are just as, if not faster. Mustang is gonna have almost no chance (it's like 100mph slower) The bear is pretty sturdily built...I'm not sure I'd want to go at it with anything less than cannons. damn, didn't read the above message, RHTT beat me to it

The Guitar Hero III vs. Rock Band Thread
Phyrox replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You have me wrong. I don't play the guitar. If I was inclined to interact with the music in some way, I can't imagine that I would rather play this game than grab a real instrument (a cheap one) and try to play along with my favorite songs. In the same amount of time, I would hear the same great music, but might actually learn something about real music making. All while having a good time. -
The Guitar Hero III vs. Rock Band Thread

If I wanted to play the guitar for fun I would...you know, play a guitar for fun. I don't understand how playing a Dance-Dance-Revolution version of music making could be fun. -
That's why I said I'm pulling for you. I wouldn't spend money on it, but I wish you all the luck in getting the requisite interested parties.

Holy smokes...I forgot how ugly that thing is. I just went through and looked all all those images a few times, just to make sure I wasn't missing something. Looks like a go-bot in helicopter mode. Good luck with this project and all though. I've got some favorites that will never see the light of day, so I'm pulling for this underdog project. It'd be nice to see someone get that model they've been burning for for 20 years.

Yamato's gone commercial on us? For shame.

sweet. Do I win something?

As far as naval policy goes, subs are the smart money for China. A carrier is impressive, but doesn't suit their needs...and they know it. Carriers are all about power projection and Command of the Sea. China has no need of that, and it would be a draining uphill battle to try and wrest naval dominance from the Western powers. Denying your "enemy" Command of the Sea in local areas that matter however, is a very viable strategy for the Chinese navy, and it is no surprise that this has been their policy for some time. The sub (both diesel and nuke) is an ideal weapons for this. The modern sub isn't invincible, but it is the best weapon for China's naval requirements.

No idea, looks like either a Saturn or a Hyundai to me.

Macross 25th Anniversary and upcoming new TV series thread
Phyrox replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
While I would have liked to have seen something that looked a bit fresher for the VF, what we do have is, at least from what little I can make out, not so bad. It takes the forward fuselage of the SV-51 (it's only good quality) and combines it with the rear fuselage of the VF-19 (it's best quality). Looks OK to me, better than VF I've seen in a while. If Kawamori is going to just be reworking the same territory he's already covered though, I wish he would revisit/update some of his other Advanced Valkyrie stuff. I hope the "bad guys" don't have variable fighters in this series. Cool mecha, yes...VFs, no. -
^ what he said.
