I don't have the TF DVD, so I can't reference the scenes you are talking about, but unless they marked things very oddly for the movie I think these are the answers: The medical blackhawks are going to be Army. Pave Hawks will have obvious sensors on the nose and a conspicuous refueling probe. UH-1 will be army as well. I don't know what a "US Army" roundel is...all US forces use the same national markings. As a general rule, if you see a helicopter, it doesn't belong to the Air Force. They use Pave Hawks and Pave Lows for special operations, but that's about it.

I like the idea of the thread for all the reasons people have stated, and think it needs to be "tidied up," just as others have said as well. I guess heavy moderator attention/post deleting would be the best way to keep the thread true to its raison d' etre, but...and maybe this is asking way too much of the mods; might it be possible for it to only be added to by the mods? I gather the moderators have to read all the other threads periodically anyway, right? Could they flag something for inclusion in the scoop thread and have a designated mod go through once a day/every other day and add the relevant post to the scoop thread? Sounds like a lot of work, but it would keep things tight. Whatever you go with, keep up the good work, MW mods.

Just because I'm a stickler... I could be misunderstanding you, but there were only 3 V-bombers as far as I know, and only one (the previously mentioned Vulcan) had a delta wing.

The Merrimac/Merrimack* (actually the Virginia but far more often incorrectly called by the name of the frigate her hull and engine came from) seems to be like this Shockwave in that they are both casemate ironclads. So, if you mean was there ever a casemate ironclad with turrets, I think the answer is no. At least I can't think of any. There were some unorthodox designs in the 1860s through the 1870s, and I'd have to check my books to be sure, but I don't think there were any ships that combined turrets with the casemate superstructures usually associated with Confederate ironclads. There were casemate ironclads with paddlewheels, and if you ignore the turrets on this design, it does look similar to some real-world river ironclads. * You see it written both ways, even in contemporary descriptions. I know one spelling refers to a river, and the other to a river valley. I swear I remember reading somewhere long ago that the -CK spelling is the actual one used for the USN frigate, but I have not been able to re-find that source. OK, now back to Transformers...

maybe it's a case of them only needing three seasons to tell the story they want to tell? I mean, of course it's really just a vehicle to sell toys in the end...but is it possible that they never intended it to run and run until all the ideas were stale? Maybe they want to go out on top...?

If it's available for a decent price, then stealing it just isn't justified. That's how I see it. Call me old fashioned.

Sorry, I have no idea...but I checked amazon. When did these DVDs become so damned expensive? They were dirt cheap when they were out, and they were being discounted so heavily, I was seriously thinking about getting a second set just to have around. Now they're selling for collector prices? Just because something isn't made anymore doesn't mean it should cost a lot. No one wanted them at $20 a set, I don't think anyone's gonna be biting at $200+ So...nope, I can't help. But good luck.

Yeah, Porco Rosso has several aircraft designs that are based on real-world aircraft (some looser interpretations than others...) Oh, and there's this cool little number from Atragon (which you should NOT waste your time watching for the 5 seconds it's on screen for)

Just a quick inquiry: Anyone interested in the HGUC Zaku Ground Combat Set but not wanting the two tanks? I'll split the cost of the kit for the tanks. I don't want another Zaku, nor all the manipulators and weapons, but I want the 1/144 type 61. Just curious if anyone is interested.

No, they can keep that nasty POS. A real invid/inbit however, I'd pay for. In fact, with the economy the way it is, I'd almost think a cheaper Gosu toy would be a good idea for a company. I know I'm tightening up my spending, deciding not to get all of the Toynami Betas, and not to get the rare CM Legioss releases like I normally would...but I wouldn't think twice about dropping a few dozen bucks on a posable Gosu. But seriously...no one is gonna buy that robotech bastard invid thing.

An anime with bad pacing?? Surely not!

Quite the opposite. Those look like all the other gundam things we've been seing for years. Subtle variations here and there, but more of the same. MSG, and Zeta, and ZZ, and Turn A...now those had some interesting designs. I'd like to see a return to things like Quebleys and Zetas and The Os, and Turn Xs, and Goufs, and all that than more Freedoms/Strikes/generic super gundams.

The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
Phyrox replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I dunno about that other stuff, but a biplane transformer (ransack) that pulls off a decent Albatros? That's a must-buy. I don't much like the stupid guns or bomb...but those can be forgiven (or removed). That is too cool. -
search the forums, when it first came out there was a thread and a summary translation I think. Nothing too exciting I'm afraid, just a one-off illustration for the magazine to accompany pics of some then-new Mospeada products if I remember. edit: here was the message, written by member "Save" "Well I picked up the issue and got it translated and it says nothing about a new series. It's just a small write up on Hideki Kakinuma's professional history. The sketches of the mecha are just to explain black and white stripes and the history behind them. Basically how in World War 2 (the article mentions Normandy) these stripes where used to identify allied ships, and that the idea was brought to Mospeada. The section on the Inbit basically says that none of the sponsors of the original Mospeada series gave any guidelines on the enemy designs so Hideki and team had free reign on what the Inbit came to be. So they chose the ugly, creepy insect crab without having to make changes by the sponsors. The new Hobby Japan issue cover more on the reissued kits, the new toy lines, and a few pages of Mospeada line art that we have all seen before."

Ya, my biggest problem with the cockpit isn't that it folds down, it is what you mention; that it is too large, too wide, and incorrectly shaped. If that was fixed, this toy would be ace! (I actually want the legs a tad closer together in fighter, but I can let that slide).
-
I wouldn't say "none" of it. There's this one: And although most of the battloid lineart might show the beta as slightly smaller, in order for the proportions of the alpha/beta combo to look line-art accurate the beta has to be bigger than it appears in battloid. Just more anime magic that had to be accounted for.
-
I'm not an average disinterested random person, I am an average fan. I have spend nowhere near $500 on Macross toys. Maybe if you put all anime toys together over the last five years, it might almost come to that level. Trust me on this, I am the world's foremost expert on what kind of fan and collector I am.
-
I am the average fan/collector, and I have to disagree. If you think it is beyond hideous, that's fine, but don't pretend it's some generally accepted truism. Looks pretty good actually. But then, I only ever try to speak for myself.

- The Aoshima is just a slightly brighter colored and very slightly modified Toynami (new hip ratchets, or something small like that). The Blue Aoshima Alpha might not match the color of your Beta exactly, but it will be a fine replacement for the Toynami in every other way (QC was reportedly worse however). It should connect to the Toynami Beta just as well as the Toynami it was cloned from. Aoshima wasn't a rip-off, it was a licensed version for the Japanese market. - You could connect any of the other Toynami/Aoshima Alphas to your Beta if you wanted. The color wouldn't match, but that would be the only trouble.

PICs of MPC Toynami Robotech Beta Fighter
Phyrox replied to nugundamII's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think it was just for ease of packaging. Step one of the instructions is to attach the missles, and its removal is never mentioned again. -
The instruction booklet shows Mint with the Red Beta, and Lunk with the Green. No art for the shadow. The only unused character is ariel/marlene though, so might as well go with her.

It doesn't have the A-stance of the CM, but it can do about this much: (big, heavy metal toynami and little brother CM)

Just a small comparrison pic for those too impatient to wait for real reviews. For the record, this seems like a pretty sturdy little guy. The only thing I wish is that his cockpit wasn't so huge and inaccurate (I don't mind its presence in battloid) and I wish the hips were stiffer. Otherwise it's solid.
