    Macross figures

Well for me the thing isn't so much about the cost in a vacuum, it's the cost in comparison to other figures I've bought. When I bought Dark Angel Olivia (who despite being listed as 1/8 scale is as big as a normal 1/7) back in 2017 she was 13,800¥. In 2017 exchange rates, that was $122. Adjusting for inflation of the Japanese yen, 13,800¥ in 2017 comes to 14718¥ today, which in today's exchange rates is actually only $101. Converting to USD first and then adjusting for inflation of the dollar, that's $152, whereas 36000¥ in USD today is $247. I get that the world has changed since 2017, but that increase seems like a bit much. Now if she's worth it to you, that's fine, I'm not trying to dissuade you, just explaining why I have a hard time swallowing the price.
  2. Yeah I think I'm here too. Especially given these thoughts: I know I said way back when that I thought I was sold, but now I don't know. I honestly think I prefer the Yamato even in Battroid, just based on pictures. At this point about the only thing pushing me to get this is that I don't have a Yamato and they're so expensive now.
  3. Isn't the distribution license status of DYRL? still unknown?
  4. Every time I read "Witch from Mercury" it sounds like something out of a Calvin and Hobbes strip.
  5. Absolutely. The Fand II is one of my all-time favorite fictional aircraft, largely due just to its absurdity. The Fand I and Sylphid scale things back a bit, which makes for a different, but still cool design. I'll even take the F/A-27C, bulbous, tiny-winged thing though it is. Still trying to find the Flip Knight somewhere...
  6. Oh yeah, the detail on these is incredible. Tamp so small you practically need a magnifying glass to make them out. Oh, you really want weird double canopies? Check out the trainer versions of the Mig-25.

    Macross figures

Wow, yeah. The increasing costs of figures was brought up on Reddit a few weeks ago and I mentioned how back in 2017 I got Kotobukiya's Dark Angel Olivia for 11,600 yen. Nowadays normal 1/7s are regularly going for two to three times that.
  8. That's sick. Love it! A few weeks ago I spent some time poring over the official images of the SV-303 and stills from the movie to figure out how it transformed. Even made some color-coded images of it, a la the MMM. I could post those if you're interested.
  9. I don't know what Master File says about that one, but the DX has a couple openings in the wings near the roots that could be engine exhausts I guess.
  10. Everyone here is talking about the engines and the nose of the new X-Wing, but my first thought when I saw it was excitement that Lego had finally done the hexagonal cross section of the fuselage. And then wondering what it would take to mod my copy of 10240 with that.
  11. Me too. Not that I've been wanting it since college, but I just really like bright colors, even on planes. I'm still waiting for Aisha Blanchette's pink VF-19E.
  12. Yeah the difficult part would definitely be having access to all the buttons. If I remember correctly for MP3, you need A (jump), B (fire), + (switch visors), - (hypermode), and D-Pad down (missiles). My first thought was the Nerf Switch Shot, but that just gives you B. I wonder if it might be easier to just mount the sensor bar somewhere else, way away from the monitor so you could hold the wiimote at a more ergonomic angle.
  13. Me too. I thought MP3's Wiimote controls weren't bad, per say, but they felt way less precise than the GCN controls. I don't know how I'd feel playing this with twin-stick controls. I have one of those HD texture mods and the widescreen hack for Dolphin, and a GCN-USB adapter, so I don't know how interested I am in remastered.
  14. I'd think the best we get is more info on the VF-5000G.
  15. This got me thinking that I haven't played a lightsaber-'em-up more modern than Jedi Academy. What's considered the pinnacle of video game lightsaber combat these days?
  16. I vaguely remember having to turn that on using a console command in the original release, but it being on by default in the Steam version. Raven knew what we wanted.
  17. Is there any media that provides the buffer capacity of the various versions of the Inertia Vector Control System? The compendium says the one in the Queadluun-Rhea can reduce the G-load on the pilot to 18G, which would suggest it has a buffer of either 4.5 or 7G, depending on whether that means during normal or super acceleration. Anything on the ones in the Queadluun-Rau or YF-21?
  18. I'm kind of considering picking a set up, despite not having a VF-31AX. I just like the design.
  19. *Looks at SV-303* *Looks at YF-24* *Looks back at SV-303* ...Uh... Master File writers... are you sure about that?
  20. IIRC, the YF-29 was the subject of some in-universe speculation that it was an attempt at matching or exceeding the performance of Earth's VF-24. That said, yes, the reason Max got one was instead of a VF-24 is absolutely because they already had the CD model of it from the second Frontier movie and Bandai had the molds to make it already, and neither a new CG model or new toy was needed.
  21. The current Macross Compendium page for the YF-29 lists the thrust of the FF-3003J/FC1 engines as "in space, maximum thrust of 1,470 KN [1,970 KN]". Going back through the revision history of that page, internet searches, and Sketchley's translations, it looks like the 1,970 KN value was the original number, published with the Bandai 1/100 model kit, and the 1,470 kN value came later with the Official Complete Book - Theatrical Macross F ~Wings of Goodbye~ and was later repeated in Macross Chronicle. So there is some provenance for 1,970 KN. The engine is described as being able to increase its thrust by switching to high-speed mode in an atmosphere, so a possible, albeit unofficial, head-canony way of explaining it would be to say the 1,470 KN is in space and 1,970 KN in atmosphere.
  22. What about that shot in the last episode of Frontier where Alto is carrying a GU-17A and an SSL-9B alongside each other under the center of his VF-25F? Is there an explanation for that?
  23. You know, I didn't want AC7 until now...
  24. Also Cybertron in some of the Transformers continuities.
