So what? Do you have your advanced classes yet? Do you have the keys to reach Kazham yet? No? Well.... I don't see where you stand to brag about anything. You will notice that a chocobo is more of a pain then an advantage.... when you have to pay close to 2k gil to rent one just so you can leave Jeuno. <_<

The best place to party between 17 to 20 is the Korroloka tunnel. If you have a few ppl to play with you..... get the game. Its a great multiplayer experience. Now, if you plan on playing the game alone, I have to warn you that the game won't be nearly as fun. Playing with 4 ppl is the main attraction of the game, it has no plot at all. Its looks great, and its fun when you have 3 other ppl playing with you.

Skull Leader.... theres a spot in the Highlands where you can safely fight worms (they link though, so watch out). You should fight them till you are lv11. After that... you can either fight alot of easy preys or go to Valkurm to party. You just have to learn how to avoid agro, thats all. I just had the most brain numbing experience of my life..... a party made me their main healer. Now... get this.... I'm a samurai subbed with whm, but I only have enough mp to cast cure 4 times. And the idiots were pulling ITs. How the heck am I supposed to keep everyone healed in this case?

Well.... you could come over. Vostok and Yosho have been stuck between lv18 and 21 for the past 2 weeks or so. I have a few advanced job classes that I could lv, my samurai is just lv7 now, and I have a lv10 thief that I would like to lv eventually, and I'm getting more and more interested in lving a whm. Theres really no such thing as holding back.... just come... and we'll figure something out. And besides... its much better to be in a server with ppl who can help you then in a server where you are alone... specially when you have to hunt for Kazham keys, sub job quest items and someone to help you get to Jeuno to do the Chocobo quest. Like I said... if you guys are interested... I can just buy a world pass. I just sold 4 stacks of beeswax so I have close to 70k, so money isn't an issue.

Now why would you have to worry about dropping legs into the toilet? Long story.
-
What? A Macross toy that will actually fit my shelf without having to reset all the other toys? And in a size that will probably be price friendly? . . . . . SIGN ME UP!!! . . . . as long as the details are nice and I don't have to worry about dropping legs into the toilet.

Finally!! Yesterday I completed the samurai quest. Took me 5 hours to complete it and I found help by accident. One person in my linkshell promised he would help me, and I stumbled upon him by accident while coming back from the Highlands. He got us a lv60 english speaking blm (I know... amazing isn't it? ), who took alot of convincing to join us, and then we got a lv33 whm who was also interested in doing the quest. We went to Norg (I made many mistakes on the way), and got them the quest. When we got back to Jeuno, we were joined by a lv40 something warrior who wanted to finish the quest too. We had to fight the bomb 3 times, and it was pretty easy (our blm was getting no damage). At lv30, with a lv10 pali subjob the bomb hit me for 100 dmg, so anyone interested in doing the quest too should defenetly bring along someone who can deal with dmg better. After that... we rode to Zi Tah. Beautiful place!! The Rock Golem is the single coolest looking mob in the game... and it kicks way too much ass. The place is a maze filled with all sorts of Gobs. None of us had a map so our blm get us a lv62 whm to come with us and lead us to the sacred tree. We were just a few steps from the tree.... when we lost 2 of the party members. It was late, so we finished it anyway. The Treant is all looks and no power. At lv30, I was hit for 37 dmg. It went down pretty easy after everyone pulled their 2hs on it. It was my first treant (at least the first I stood a chance against), so I figured... might as well snap a shot of that ugly thing.

The unicorn server is nice... as long as you watch out and be patient and start playing the game known what you are going to get from it. P.S. if anyone needs a world pass.... just post here in this thread and I'll buy one. I'll be around the Bastok area for a while... so I can just drop by and get one.
-
The Rank rule thing sucks. How am I supposed to do the last Rank2 Bastok mission if I need high lv players who also happen to have lv25 or lower equipment to find some stupid dragon in Windurst? <_< As for the no whm rule..... 2 rdms can easily work as whms, as long as they have a mana intensive sub job.
-
Actually... I'm simply following Squares standard that every non japanese is American. I didn't mean to attack US gamers specifically as alot of the bad gamers are also from other nations. At least in Unicorn, you can easily see who is American and who is just speaking english. American players 99% of the time have the annoying idea that putting grunts with vulgarities before a ws or ja is fun. Not only that... but they also have stupid little phrases that they love to spam all the time. Not to say that they are all bad.... there are great american players in that game. Its just that.... experience wise, and in Unicorn, the US is not being well represented.

I know you were. But if you play FFXI for a while... you will start to notice which newbies will make it... and which won't. For example.... I was in the Highlands trying to lv up my sword skill the easy way, got a tell from a little taru whm who needed help getting through the highlands safely. I wasn't doing anything.... so I decided to help him out. So there we go... waltzing all the way from the Crag of Dem to SGustaberg. He got agro by a Quad, and I immidiately provoked it off him, and told him not to heal me so he would keep hate at a minimum.... the little guy complied. Then... he went on to tell me how his party kicked him out right before taking a Battering Ram. Now... doesn't take a genius to figure out they were extremely stupid for taking a notorius monster at lv10.... and kick their only whm out. He then proceded to ask several different questions about game mechanics. Saw him 3 days later.... almost lv20, waved at me and thanked me for the tips. That same day... I came accross an elvaan blm who demanded me to take him accross the highlands (I used demanded losely because his rudeness knew no bounds). Well... the little crap got aggroed by just about every mob on his way to meet me. By the time he reached me he had a train that went from Quads and gobs.... to ghosts and the weird things that have swords floating above their heads. I told him I would get them off my back... but that he wasn't supposed to cast spells because I would never be able to pull them off him. Well... the little crap started nuking the mob..... got cursed and killed, and then told me in AIM jargon that I sucked and that I would get someone to raise him. I finshed the mob, and told him "Well... thats what you get from not listening" and left. 3 days later... he had gone from lv11 to lv 9.

Effect... I see where you are coming from, but in this case its not an excuse. Number 1: about 70% of the players in FFXI know FF, and play FFXI solonely(sp) because its FF game. They know what whm blm are supposed to be doing and they know what they are not supposed to be doing. Number 2: theres no need for explanation because everyone goes through the first 10 or so lvs, lving by himself. By lv10 he/she should know what the heck they are supposed to be doing and which role they are going to have. You can't tell me you start the game as a whm, and by lv10 you can't figure out you are not a warrior and you should be standing back and healing everyone. The same thing for wars, they have provoke for a reason, and the ability has a clear explanation (other then the obvious meaning of the word) of whats its going to do. The same for blm.... they can attack, but by lv10 they should know that 2 or so attacks and they are down for the count. Number 3: the other 30% of the players in that game already know MMORPGs in some form and are well aware of what they should be doing, even if the rules are slightly different. Theres a reason why you go through the first 10 lvs solo... because you are supposed to get used to the job class you chose, and you are supposed to know what you can and can't do. When you look at a party, you easily see that everyone there complements each other. Unless your IQ is lower then that of a desk.... I don't see how the heck someone can't figure out what they should be doing when they get in a party. And its not like every player was like that.... how come the first batch of players knew how to play the game well? Where they born with an inherited knowledge of FFXI? No. Its simply because they were smarter then the new players. Unless they used some sort of hack to get them to lv10.... theres no way a FFXI player can't know his role by then. And I'm not talking about advanced stuff like skill chains or the advanced job classes.... I'm talking about whm healing everyone, tanks keeping mages alive and provoking all the time, attackers dishing out damage and blms nuking the heck out of a mob. And even if they don't know their roles... chances are... someone in their party does.... why the heck won't they listen then!?!?!?! I can understand mistakes from lack of familiarity(sp) with the gaming enviroment, and those are bound to happen. But mistakes that happen simply because the player refuses to listen to the voice of reason can only be attributed to pure stupidity. <_<
-
It still amazes me how someone can reach lv30 and not know how to pull or play out their role in a party properly. <_< I guess thats why getting advanced classes is such a pain.... natural selection I guess. <_< The real reason to quit this game is not the painful advanced job quests..... is the fact that you are going to have to start from zero, and you will be obligated to play with a bunch of morons who don't know what they are supposed to be doing and refuse to learn.
-
I don't think they being console gamers has anything to do with how they act. Seriously... its not coop multi player games are something new for console gamers. The ones I refer to simply refuse to work together, it makes pting unbearable. And in a game so party driven, it kills all the fun in the game. And this game did attract more MMORPG players then you can imagine, I have yet to get in a party that someone hasn't used EQ jargon, mentioned SWG or talked about how fun Asherons Call was. Its not about confusion.... after the first battle, if theres an experienced player in a party, the first thing they do is tell everyone what their role in the party is. Thats when the refusal to comply comes in. I have seem warriors bitch about how they should be tanking instead of the paladin, when the paladin clearly said he had the better defense (note, at lv10 he had better defense then both lv12 warriors), not just that, he was subbing as a war, giving him an ever greater advantage, defense wise. If he was more experienced, why the heck should they not do what he says? <_< A mage that pulls and fights is a moron... why? If in 10 lvs of game experience they haven't noticed that even the easiest of mobs can rape them without breaking a sweat, how can he not be a moron? Its called trial and error, and even the most basic of minds can comprehend that. Is the same thing with whms that won't heal because they are scared of getting killed or tanks that won't provoke. Its a lv of stupidity that makes even the ppl around them feel dumber. Ppl just can't begin to understand the lv of reward you get from doing your job well. For example, after 5 days in Kazham trying to reach lv30, I finally get in a good party. I had been partying with the same 2 whms for all 5 days, and I was doing my best to keep both of them alive. I once manage to single handedly keep both of them from harms way when facing a Goblin Smithy who had raped 5 other parties in the area, no one in my party died because I managed to keep it "entertained" while everyone ran the heck out of that zone. And what happens in the last day? I log in, and in less then 5 minutes I get about 15 tells from different ppl wanting me to join their party. The previous 4 days, took me around 1 or 2 hours to get into a decent party, and in the last day I had ppl killing themselves to have me in their parties..... and why? Because I tried my best to do my job well and I listened to more experienced players. And you know what? It was alot of fun to be in a party that new what they were doing. Why can't the new players understand that? Why can't they understand that "fame" will make this game much more fun to play? Because they are stupid idiots who don't like to listen to advice, and who think their way is the right way.

Technically this is planned quite well. People don't often care for it, but it can be quite rewarding, especially for a warrior. Start with warrior, level to 18 and get your subjob. Start with thief, level to 15 and switch back to warrior. Take warrior from 18-30 (dont even need to touch thief anymore) then find someone to help you with the advance job of your choice (dark knight, bard, ranger can all be done easily by one's self). Get new job, and just continue on till whatever. You won't even have to worry about warrior until level 60. If you're getting tired of power leveling, then get side tracked. Do some questing. Do some missions. Make some money. Go fishing. Start crafting. Grinding levels isn't what the game is about, so if that's all you plan to do, then there's a million other games out there for you where you don't have to pay $13 a month. The problem with the game is not griding levels... is the fact that you cannot do anything by yourself. I know doing things by yourself defeats the whole purpose of an MMORPG, but what FFXI does is ridiculous! Heck.... I need a pt just so I can go in the bathroom in that damn game, and I'm surprised I can reach mog houses without the aid of a high powered japanese player. I swear, having to look for players who I can't communicate with is quite possibly the worst gaming time I have ever had in my life. Why can't they lower the lv cap for the expansion jobs? I feel really sorry for the fools who thought that an all american server was the way to go. And you know what? It sucks to have to force yourself through a job class you don't care about just so you can get the one you want. Why should I force myself to play with a paladin or a dark knight or a bard just so I can get Samurai? By the time I reach lv60 and can solo the samurai quest, I will be so burned out at this game that I won't even care about the damn job anymore. I honestly don't mind lv grinding.... my only gripe against it is that Square gives you a real fake sense of power on the first 8 lvs, specially for advanced classes. As a dark knight, I went from taking tough mobs without breaking a sweat, untill I reach lv9 and everything above easy was enough to have me running for zone. The same thing for paladin.... its nice to take 4 or 5 tough mobs without breaking a sweat, right? Wrong.... by lv9, you can't even do half of what you could at lv5. I understand that Japanese players have been playing that game forever now, but as days go by, the rift between english speaking gamers and japanese speaking gamers increases at an alarming rate. You want to know why? Because, simply put, american games suck the thick one. One of the reasons I'm quitting the game is that the current crop of FFXI gamers suck. And I'm not saying that because I heard horror stories, I'm saying that because I have witnessed it myself. The sheer stupidity and complete disregard for party etiquette is amazing. Why can't new players understand that whms aren't pullers? Why can't they understand that by default, a paladin can tank better then a warrior at any time of the day? Why must they insist on pulling mobs away from a paladin? And I swear... to get to lv20 and not know how to pull or avoid agro is a frakking crime. <_<

I have reached my FFXI gaming limit. At lv30, no interest in any of the advanced classes, and with no possibility of doing the expansion job classes quests, unless I force myself to lv my warrior to lv60, which I cannot do as I'm sick and tired of that stupid useless class.... I will be quiting at the end of the month. <_

The unforunate thing about that is that monks are the easiest characters to level from 1-10. After that, they really have no good role in a group until they get to level 60. Boost is useless until you get chi blast. Counter is useful, but in a perfect world, the monks shouldn't be the ones taking the damage. When you hit 40 with monk, you get to wear all the haste gear (brown/purple belt, fuma kyahan) and the ochiudo kote (+20 attack) which really begins to turn you into a destructive force. Downside to that is getting those items will cost you an arm and a leg. Before that however, your main strenth relies on your many weapon skills that let you chain easily with almost every weapon in the game. Once you hit 51 (and provided you have a 25 war sub) you will start kicking and double hitting which will get your TP up faster than anything except for samurais. By 60, you get Howling Fist which you can use to make level 3 skillchains. When paired with a samurai, you can do no wrong. Normal fights go like this (bear in mind, at around level 40 or so): Tachi: Kagero >> Raging Fist w/boost+sneak = Fusion >> BanishgaII (whm) >> Holy (whm) 120dmg 250-300dmg 100-150dmg 240dmg 180dmg Regardless, even I have lots of problems getting invited as a monk. Mainly I have to ask my friends to party with me. Thank your lucky stars you didn't go with monk. I agree. Between lv1 to 10, monks can take even matches without breaking a sweat (as long as you boost 6 or 7 times before battle, to give you a head start). But after that, monks aren't exactly better then the other classes. The only thing that I saw monks doing great, was at gaining TP. Yesterday, I had 2 monks in my party, and they could use 200tp WS at least twice in battle, while the tanks were struggling to get enough tp to use a WS once. And seriously, I can see why japanese players hate american players, but some of the japanese players are spoiled. Yesterday, we had a female hume samurai soloing Goblin Smithys in Kazham. The catch, she was lv31, she couldn't take them by herself. So she would strike the gob once of twice, and run for zone. After she was safe and sound, and the gob would procede to massacre half the players sitting by the entrance. So some of of bilingual players started /telling her to look for a party. They never got an answer. So all players started shouting for her to get the @#$% out of there because they were tired of getting killed by her BS. Before leaving... she said... "You guys could've joined together to kill all those goblins". <_<

Trust me.... warriors suck. Any advanced class will be just fine.... really. Once you hit Kazham and you find either too much ppl or not enough ppl... you will wish that part of the game was over quickly. Seriously... I'm so desperate.... I will stay up tonight untill I hit lv30... no sleeping before that!! On a side note... Kazham is video game hell... but the monsters you are supposed to fight are utter whimps! Seriously... we fought an IT mandragora... and our mages even had time to sit and heal while we took damage... and by the end of the fight.... 200XP!!! It did take us around 5 minutes to beat each mandragora. Hahaha, aren't weak enemies what you want?! Anyway, the warrior doesn't suck. He's just nothing special. Warrior is best used as a sub for a whole bunch of different classes and not as a main. Also, a warrior is only as good as his subjob is. A 30/15 war/thf would be able to do some really wonderful weaponskill damage with sneak+berserk+sturmwind, especially if its used during renkei for a level 2 ws (with the WS having the same element of the enemies weakness). Monk will also be quite good as you get counter and a ton of extra HP. Well.... if ppl in my server knew how to make a real party, monks would be pting more often. I would've been a monk, but everyone rather have 2 mages and 4 tanks. <_<

2 weeks? How come? I'm 12k xp away from never having to touch my warrior again.... and you don't know how good that makes me feel. I just hope I don't have to go back to kazham ever again for lving. <_<

Errr... thats not really a question I can answer. Its really up to your playing style. If you like being a punching bag, dealing the ocasional damage, then be a warrior. If you like dealing damage, having tons of hit points, and blazing through the first 12 levels, then be a monk. If you like being a war, but don't want to be the punching bag, and dealing massive amounts of damage after lv15, then be a thief. If you are a mage kind of guy, who would like to be able to use a sword and heal at the same time, be a red mage. If you like being the most important piece of a party, having ppl kill themselves to have you, but going through insane amounts of boredom between lv8 through 10, then be a white mage. Like casting all sorts of neat black magic, then be a black mage and watch as you deal the most damage during a battle. You can have 2 jobs once you get past a certain spot in the game. And the advanced jobs are either more specific versions of the basic jobs or completly new jobs. For example, paladins and dark knights are simple warrior split in half, with paladins being tankers (able to take damage better then anyone else, and being able to heal) and dark knights being attackers. As far as races go.... theres really little difference between all of them. Though.... certain traits are noticeable. For example, tarutarus make awsome mages (high magic) but not so good warriors (low strength). Humans and Mithras are sort of jack of all trades. Galkans make great warriors (ugly ones at that) but not so good mages (low magic). Elvaans are sort of jack of all trades too but I heard they have slightly lower magic and dexterity (they miss alot). I'm currently playing as a human warrior, with thief as a sub job. And honestly, I can't wait to dump this class for a more appropriate job class. Don't get me wrong, warriors are easy to level, but I got really tired of being a punching bag and rarely hitting an enemy. I want to do a quest to aquire the samurai job class, and then I'm still undecided on what comes next. If you are planning on getting the game, just pic a race, pic a job (you can easily change it if you don't like it) and see which one fits your way of playing.

As they say in Japanese, meiwaku kakenai you ni which means, Try not to make trouble for others. While zoning or running to an area with more players may help you, it could also cause problems for other groups. If banshees or wights pop on you and you run to the zone at Delkfut, that leaves the aggro cruising around right outside Delkfut with a number of other groups around. If they're in a fight, that could spell big trouble for them. In wide areas like Qufim it doesn't present much of a problem, but later on you fight only in dungeons, and there's always only one way to escape. When you drag a big train of monsters to the zone, especially from deep within an area, it effectively freezes any activity there until the monsters walk back to their original spawn points. (This also applies to fighting in close proximity to other parties against monsters that cast AOE spells like gob bombs.) I saw that happen in Kazham way too often yesterday.... untill we decided it was a better idea to move to a spot behind a wall. The thing is... random players would still get agroed and pull their train to that spot. <_<
-
What level have you gotten so far? Are you any closer to the end? To answer your question.... no he is not. You can reach lv50 by normal lving means, and then you cna undertake 4 different quests to raise the lv cap to 55, 60, 65, and 70 (I think it might go as high as 80). I'm not exactly trying to rub it in, as the current lv up spot I have to go to, is the biggest pain in the ass ever. Kazham, is a terrible lving spot, but you have to be there. Yesterday there was hardly anyone there (at 1 point, there were 6 ppl in the entire region). The creatures you have to hunt are mandragoras, they are wimpy little creatures that will give you a ton of xp but are close to impossible to hit. The draw back.... they are usually clustered around Goblin Smithys. These are high lv gob butchers for those who play the game. While mandragoras can hit you for 10 damage twice, smithys hit you for 80 damage. We were hauling around a lv24 blm with us, and at some point, after being agroed by a smithy, the damn gob made a bee line straight to the blm! It was a 1 hit kill, it was almost sad. Took me 6 hours to gain 1 lv, and I even died twice.... both times at hands of a goblin. Whats worst, we decided it was a nice idea (it was mostly my idea, a bad one at that) to try and "rape" the crap out of a gob that made us zone. We all had to use our 2 hour job abilities, and even then our whms still had to use benediction. Funny.... for the first time, I saw a whm survive after using benediction.

Honestly.... I would much rather have a finished forum skin then any of this crap that has been going on. But thats just me. <_

Heheheh..... thats why I have the macro "Incoming train , who ever is in , either get out of the way or try to kill it" along with a call for help. Works every time and I have yet to kill many ppl. And I have noticed that, at least when I used to go pting in Qufim, there was a couple of lv54 DRK killing whatever train went through there. And besides, ppl have learned that walking through Qufim at night is a big no no!
