Thats not what I meant. I meant that, in Shiryus case, the old figure had a better designed chest armor piece. This one feels very loose, and doesn't look much like the anime version.

I think the deal is that Z Gundam had more focus on its story, and the characters were just part of the grand plot... while V Gundam had more focus on the characters and the plot were the characters. I remember watching Z Gundam and not really caring much about the characters, but how they fit into the grand plot. Z Gundam had a very good plot, it was much bigger then V Gundams, it involved alot more ppl. V Gundams story was rather weak, it was the characters who made it even remotely good. I mean, the story just felt like a mix of 0079 and Z Gundam. The characters were part of the League Militia, but unlike the Ahgama and the AUEG, those characters were mostly diconnected from it. Its weird... and rather confusing I guess.

The Trailer for Batman Begins is OUT!
Abombz!! replied to Anubis's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
With one glaring difference. Nobody walked out of Batman & Robin saying that Joel Schumacher "raped" their childhood. Right.... because everyone had fainted after the blantat bad taste "fan service" that were the butt and nipple close ups in 3 and 4. -

I hope they forget about the existing Batman movies altogether. Batman and Batman Returns were ok in their day, but in hindsight they were more "Tim Burton" than they were "Batman." The first Batman stands the test of time as well as the old SW movies..... meaning.... beyond nostalgia.... they are not that great anymore. -
I did find Shiryus chest piece poorly designed. I think Bandai did a better job with the old figured then with this one.

The Trailer for Batman Begins is OUT!

I hope they can capture the darkness from the first 2 Batman movies... and I hope they do away with the whole futuristic Gothan city crap from the last 2 Batman movies. -
Actually, Z Gundam had some great rivals other than Jerid, whose role was more of a high school jock prick kind of character. I mean, geez, you have Scirroco, Haman Khan, Jamitov Hyman, and Bask Om. How can you ignore them? They all had substantial effect on how things unfolded for the whole 0087 conflict. Hell, Jamitov and Bask even started their crap as far back as 0083 in Stardust Memories. Scirroco, while being the typical smooth suave anime villian character, was probably one of the more powerful Newtypes in the UC universe to date, with Haman Khan right up there. I'd say Jerid if anything is a lower tier a-hole rival. Read my post again. Jerid was to Camille what Char was to Amuro, and just like Chronicle was to Uso, and thats what I meant with "main character rival". Sirocco was the grand master mind, aka one of the Zabi. Hamahn Kahn wasn't even a villian in Z Gundam... she was only a disgruntled girlfriend looking for some revenge, she didn't become a full blown villian/rival untill ZZ Gundam. Katsu was a pathetic character (just like Hathway and Quess) who died after hitting a meteorite. He didn't even die in battle, he died because he was too stupid. Now compare his death to Odelos death in V Gundam. Both character fit the same profile, but Odelos death was more shocking because you never expected Odelo to die the way he did. The way they killed Camiles parents was no where near as impactful as the way Usos mon and dad died. Many of the deaths in Z Gundam happened for the sake of happening. I do agree with Fours death being kind of sad.... but Rosamias death was anything but sad. She was no where as interesting as Four. She was a low grade Four clone. I still say V Gundams death were more impactful, because each death felt different.... most of them you couldn't see happening... while in Z Gundam they were taken for granted. Z Gundam was dark, and you expected everyone but a few key characters to die.
-
Right.... but this time was different. Not only did he manage to kill a good chunk of characters, he also made us care about most of them. And he didn't kill them just for the sake of killing, theirs deaths were rather elaborate. That's exactly what I mean. I agree with you completely. Right.... but the V Gundam deaths were pretty different from Z Gundam deaths. IN Z Gundam just about every character that dies, you could really give a rats ass. The only deaths that had any impact were Emas and the bearder guy.... everyone else just felt completly unimportant. And I have to tell you.... Jerid is quite possibly the worst "main character rival" to date.

You know whats great about V Gundam? Tomino was capable of creating characters that only show up for a few episodes, get no development, but we still care about them when they die. Now.... a moment of silence to all dead Shrike Team members.

Words from someone who haven't watched enough Gundam. Go watch V Gundam and tell me it doesn't hit you when Uso hands Marbet his moms helmet...... with her head still inside it. Thats one of the saddest anime moments to date, and very few popular shows can even begin to compare to it. Or whenever a Shrike team member dies.... each of them is only around for a few episodes, and never get enough development, by its still pretty sad when it happens. And I also feel obligated to point out 2 things: 1- Gundam robots are as flashy as Macross mechs. Now, if you mean the several gut wrenching MAs that populate most of the old shows, I'll have to agree with you. The first Gundam, the GP01, GP03, Alex, NU Gundam, MKII Gundam, Hyakushiki, V Gundam, V2 Gundam and the F91, were alll extremely simplistic designs with no "flash" what so ever. 2- The colors: the first Gundam had those colors because they were demonstration colors. The rollout color was supposed to be gray. Once the enemies started identifying the MS through the colors, they decided not to change them. The next few Gundams used the same colors because they were supposed to capture the feel that the first Gundam gave their enemies. The colors (mostly the blue and white) plus the face and the V-Fin, became Gundam trademarks, and were used as part of the plot in several shows. So? And that matters to anything why? IN the states all you need is good animation, no story and a alot of violence/shooting to attract the so called young adult market. And this is a really dumb argument, IMO. Look at Gundam Wing, there are no flashier mech designs out there then Wing (maybe Seed), and both kids and adults in America swallowed it whole, and it had a truly awful plot and terrible characters. Theres no such thing as young adult market in the US. Ppl will watch just about anything, be it good or crap, no matter their age.. And do I really need to go into the super robot territory, their incredebly silly mech designs, and the sheer number of young and old adults who love them?

A nice lobotomi should solve your problem.

Yes... you should go see a doctor or something... you are mentally ill.

The Joanna D'ark ship was a La Cailum class ship.

Basically.... the Federation decided it was a better idea to just give up on MS development... thats why they are still using over sized MSs in V instead of smaller more stream lined ones. Just about every conflict since CCA, had the Federation being whooped by some enemy. If might have been pronounciation, or they simply didn't want to have it called TItans, which is pretty lame. Personally... I like tiTANs better then TItans.
-
Yup. Thats how it works. Release the best Gundam story with no promo, limited DVDs and a severe lack of toy/model support in the US. Then release flashier substandard Gundam shows with more support that a wonder bra. Stupid. Well... be glad they aren't broadcasting it on CN. Theres no way you can show Zeta on CN without butchering it beyond recognition(sp).

Zeta isn't getting a blitz. From the sound of it, Zeta will get a niche release.

Bandai has said they will get all the Gundam series to R1, it just will take a while. I would imagine V and Turn A would be the last ones. I hope F91 comes by somewhere close, as I wouldn't mind seeing some anime on the big screen, and I missed Cowboy Bebop when it came here. My guess on the order for what's left will be ZZ X V Turn A (no idea about the movies though) There is a possibility though that V could come after ZZ, which I would prefer, but they seem to like to tuck AC's after the UC's. If and when Seed 2 comes it will bump whichever was in queue, just like Seed did to Zeta. All in all, I'm happy we're getting two series this year, and two good ones at that. Plus F91. Despite a few criticisms I did enjoy Seed. They just left so much open to be covered later it felt like there were some missing chapters in there. This is my primary gripe with the series. They could have wrapped so much more if they didn't take 30 episodes to get to Alaska (though they did have a LOT to deal with along the way there). Aside from that point, I did enjoy it quite well. Actually.... V Gundam could come whenever. Even though its an UC series, its story is pretty stand alone and doesn't require previous UC Gundam knowledge.

Generally speaking I agree with you Abomz!! Just one question. What makes the GP01FB is a @#$% ridiculous looking MS?? I have the PG (not finished of course) and I find the design pretty decent. Also it is a froating head production so it cant be that bad... About Z mecha... Yep. Pretty crappy. Why? Because they took the most astheticaly(sp) pleasing Gundam design to date (the GP01) and turned it into an ugly monster with clown shoes and verniers in all its..... extremities. The MA Zeta designs were terrible, while the MKII, Hyaku Shiki, Quebely and the Palace Athena were beautiful. V Gundam has the best soundtrack.... but the Zeta soundtrack isn't bad either. Except for Wing and G, Gundam series have, overall, had pretty good soundtracks.

Heh.... I'm just rewatching V Gundam right now. I have to say... the characters are the best UC Gundam characters, by far. Uso is not the whiny punching bag that Camille was, and while not as cool as Judo, he is very nice. The villians are pretty good too, Chronical is much better then Jerid, by far. Katejina takes the cup as the most psychotic female character to date. God I wish she had been killed in the end. Soundtrack is pretty great too, Stand up to the victory is the bext Gundam intro so far. The animation was pretty good too, considering its a rather old show. Doesn't have many recycled frames. The designs are a bit of an aquired taste, but they look far better then most of the crap in Z Gundam. Now excuse me while I watch some more of it. P.S. GP01FB is a @#$% ridiculous looking MS.

It was actually known that TP owned SDF Macross and BW owned the character designs. If I'm not mistaken this was just an appeal by BW in reference to the court case that happened last year. Doesn't really change anything since DYRL and the sequels were not really involved in the case. As for HG making DYRL toys.... they probably bought the license from whoever owned it in the US.

Welcome to the internet. Every forum hates another forum, big deal.

You know what I miss? The day when corpses didn't vanish. I swear... they try to make the shooter as realistic as possible.... but then they make the corpses vanish in thin air.
-
I don't know about that. Far Cry seems to involve alot more brain play..... Painkiller is fun.... but its like a lite version of Serious Sam. As for having better graphics..... you must be smoking. I get a ton of graphic glitches in Far Cry but it is a whole lot better looking then Painkiller from a technical stand point.

Yeah but the majority of us were just goofing around. I mean having a bunch of people acting like a group of insane wierdo's (which in all fairness is what we were acting like) is always fun to see. I mean I may get bitch smacked and burnt at a stake while thrown into the Grand canyon but if HG got the rights to DYRL and released a good copy of MACROSS DYRL I'm sure most of us here would get a copy. You are right. When it all comes down to it.... supporting anything other then animation and products is silly. I'm not going to root for a company who happened to make an animation I enjoy.
