It would seem that the Robotech VF-1 suffers from the same false notion. They have the outboard hardpoint capable of carrying 2 long range missiles and the inboard carrying 1. I dont see how that is possible...even in space (which is where I would imagine they are only used). That configuration certainly wouldnt be possible in atmospheric operations....the stress would sheer the wings off I would imagine.

Anime & Japanese Culture in Recent Years
1st Border Red Devil replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I can say for certain that anime fandom is certainly more open now than it was almost 20 yrs ago. Fandom is certainly more inclusive now than it was when I was in high school. My biggest complaint is listening to the boneheads complaining about getting a DVD with 4 eps. for $20. I can still remember my Gunbuster: Aim for the Top tape with 2 eps. I bought in 1992 for about $40. Anime fans have little reason to complain about the cost of anime now. I can understand about the cost of the soundtracks for anime being overly expensive...but so are regular CDs. Then, of course, there are the new elitist anime fans that look down their nose at you if you dare to mention liking any title that came out before 2000.....God forbid something from the 1980s or 1970s. -
One last rally
1st Border Red Devil replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I know....but if I didnt at least try...then all I could do was bitch. At least I can feel that Ive done something. If HG decides to ignore it...then that is that. Well....we're now up to 197 signatures total....so only 3 more to go before I can feel like I made my goal. Hell....I was happy when it hit 100 last year. -
Actually....no. Ive seen it a total of 3 times. I know the book (and Ive got the Games Workshop miniatures...which revealed the name Sharku....Orc indeed. That was an epithet ascribed to Saruman by his Orc soldiers....its means "Old Man"). I despised the movie....the Extended Edition saved it somewhat....but barely.

Ok.... this will be my last chance to try and drum up some last minute support for my Southern Cross merchandise petition. I realise it will probably be about as helpful as a bucket of warm spit. There are now 185 signatures to this petition. Its not much in the grand scheme of things....but for something that has only had word of mouth for most of its support I dont think that is too bad. So...any of you who actually want to see Southern Cross based merchandise...please sign my petition. If, for some reason, you feel it is your right to gum up the works and be an a-hole and flame the petition...your name will be removed as the other 3 were....so please do me a favor and do not sign. Anyway....19 days are left before the year is up on it. I hope to get to 200 signatures by then. Southern Cross Merchandise Petition

Happy New Years 2004 Macrossworld!
1st Border Red Devil replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well... Happy New Year to everyone. I couldnt post earlier...had to work...but hey....HOLIDAY PAY! Anyway...unlike some...Im looking forward to what is in store with Robotech in 2004.....it will either sink or swim. -
I don't think they can. Im not certain about the laws concerning such name usage...but I think its forbidden in anything officially published (anywhere) to make reference to a military-industrial company in a totally ficticious setting without their permission. There are cases where fictional representation is ok (like how Grumman might be referred to on the program JAG because the F-14 is their baby).

Not exactly. Tom Bombadil was most likely a Maia spirit of Nature (one of Yavanna Kementari's people). His wife, Goldberry, was also a Maia...she being the Daughter of the River Withywindle (a water themed Maia). He was the oldest being still in Middle-Earth (as all others either came after him...or in the case of his boss Yavanna, left for Aman long before). He had become tied to the land that he protected (the Old Forest being the last of that land). Like Sauron, much of his power that was native to him in his begining had passed into the forest itself.

What's your geekness?
1st Border Red Devil replied to phatslappy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Of course it has become somewhat "cool" to be a geek. Its because, when you add it up, almost everyone is a geek to one degree or another. Can you truly tell me there is a difference between the Star Wars fan that waits in line for tickets for days before a movie and the "dedicated" football fans who do the same things? -
Newbie Questions on Macross
1st Border Red Devil replied to Roy Focker's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
No....none whatsoever. The original SDF-02 design was in Macross Perfect Memory. It appears nowhere in the animation (and only exists as 2 stray lines of dialogue in Robotech). -
Sauron, after the Ring was unmade, was unable to assume form ever again in any meaningful way. He became a simple spirit of malice because so much of his power that was native to him in his begining was put into the Ring. Once it was gone...well....the foundations of Bara-dur crumbled, the Nazgul remained unable to maintain their form and Sauron....dissipated. Bilbo and Frodo sailed to Aman (the Undying Lands) where they could be healed from the hurt they had suffered from bearing the Ring for so long. They would eventually lay down their lives (growing weary of the world) much as one of the undiminished Numenoreans (and even some Dunedain) and simply sleep. About Thorondor (the Lord of the Great Eagles who took part of his people to Aman at the end of the 1st Age) was said to be able to melee with winged Dragons. He aided Earendil (father of Lord Elrond and Elros Tar-Minyatur) in killing Ancalgon the Black (father of Smaug IIRC) whose fall from the sky broke the Iron Mountain Range and destroyed Angband (Iron Fortress). Thorondor had a wingspan of 180' IIRC.

Oh come now.... this thread serves a wonderful purpose...to show just how divided ANY fanbase can become. Its like watching pit bulls getting ahold a ham bone. LET THE BLOOD FLOW!

Samantha Newark sang "In Your Eyes", Annie Livingston sang "Dance Away" and Valerie Stevenson sang "Follow Your Dream" ::holds up his long cherished US Manga Corps Project A-ko Original Soundtrack:: As for which one was Jem....certainly, somewhere, there has to be a geekdom on the Internet devoted to Jem. Do a Google search and let us know! Edit: Ok....bored out of my skull....I decided to try and figure out which one it was. It happened to be Samantha Newark. However, according to what I read, Samantha was only the voice actor, not the singing voice of Jem. Now that Ive sunk to this level....I think Im going to go slit my wrists with a DVD.

Good review A7. Project A-ko is a MUST SEE for all anime fans. Its kind of a right of passage. Every anime fan should take the time to try and find this wonderful movie and watch it!

I cant believe Im gonna weigh in on this subject....I hated Macross 7. However....the deal with Spiritia could simply be it is a technological process that is so advanced that it might as well be magic. Its Clarke's Law. It could easily encompass the culture shock aspect and be something that is nearly unexplainable in any fashion other than to just say that it works (ie - its non-Newtonian IIRC).

I believe that is the Rem Clone from The Sentinels holding a group of Pollinators (space rats from Southern Cross) Marlene/Ariel...the original Marlene would be wearing a Mars Division uniform.

Best Christmas Special of All Time

Didnt Lucas swear to hunt down every last copy of the Holiday Special and destroy them? -
Are you in the Military or did you join?
1st Border Red Devil replied to DatterBoy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Never joined. I remember signing up for Selective Service a bare handful of days after Operation Desert Shield started. I only play an 1860s soldier on weekends (I hate marching.....my life would have sucked during Basic). -
Best Christmas Special of All Time
1st Border Red Devil replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had to pick A Charlie Brown Christmas....though How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a close 2nd. As for The Star Wars Christmas Special....come on...its a classic....Bea Arthur singing! -
Same thing could be said in return of many people here. We all have our likes and dislikes.

Merry Christmas to Shawn and Graham.....another great year at a great website!

Heh....I think the opening was about the only thing in The Two Towers I didnt despise. The movie blew chunks on so many levels....the EE helped alleviate that somewhat....but only somewhat.
-
Without a doubt. I began picking it apart as soon as I was sufficiently away from my friends that swore the movies were better than than books (never mind the fact that none of them have read the novels past the first 2 chapters of Fellowship of the Ring). I have yet to truly be merciless in my review. I think where the movie series screwed the pooch was in The Two Towers. It deviated so much...and added so much useless crap that The Return of the King had to play catch up...causing many to feel that the ending was rushed.

That wasnt what got me. It was the fact that Citadel Guards of the Fountain did NOTHING to stop Gandalf from whacking Denethor. Im sorry...but Gandalf would never have done that sort of thing (he doesnt bully...he motivates...that is the true power of Narya: the Ring of Fire) and the Guards would NOT have stood by and watched that sort of exchange. Denethor was the Ruling Steward of Gondor. While he may not be a King....he rules in the Kings stead until he returns. That means that he is to be protected at all costs. There were other problems...like Eowyn's clipped remarks to the Witch-King of Angmar (at least the cartoon version of The Return of the King managed to get most of this important speech...unlike the movie). All I have to say is that they had BETTER include The Houses of the Healing in the Extended Edition.
