NEW Official MPC Thread!!!
1st Border Red Devil replied to FRED THE FRENCH's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok.... the $64,000 question is WHY 2 yrs? Cyclones MPCs should already be in the development stages....it shouldnt take that long. -
Thats sort of a mismash of stuff I read over a period of time. An old copy of either Protoculture Addicts or Mecha Press had done a series of articles on the Macross II mecha. IIRC, the VF-XX was either a set of schematics from a captured Zentran Factory or it was built using new technology gleaned from this factory. I think I remember this being connected with the Neld Space Fleet Crisis.
-
Ok... after reading some stuff recently about Macross II....let me see if I have this straight. The mecha progression is as follows for the Variable Fighters: VF-1 Valkyrie (Super/Strike, GBP-1) as seen in Do You Remember, Love?: Produced from 2008 til sometime in the early 2020's when we get.... VF-1R Valkyrie Series: Refit models of the original Valkyrie series A, J and S including an improved FAST-pack System (minus a Strike Model). Produced from the 2020's until the 2050's or thereabouts where we get.... VF-XX Zentran Valkyrie: Either the schematics or the technical knowhow for this experimental model of the Valkyrie are found with the capture of a Factory Satellite just after the defeat of the Neld (?) Space Fleet attacked the colony ship Million Stars on its maiden voyage. Never mass produced, it is but an test bed. We then come to.... VF-2SS Valkyrie II: New model which becomes the standard variable fighter of the UN Spacy in the 2060s until after the Marduk Invasion. The Super Armor Pack/SAP is an optional weapons platform addition for space combat. It is only partly replaced by the atmospheric optimized.... VF-2JA Icarus: A new model of variable fighter that has been built to perform solely in an atmospheric theatre (though doubtless it could perform in space). VF-X-4 Metal Siren: Test bed model for the next generation of variable fighters. Let loose for combat during the Marduk Incident. Ok.....did I miss anything or get anything out of order?

Actually...beneath the solid white plates on the upper arms and lower arm/vambrace is supposed to be an undersuit that the armor attaches to. Tommy actually made more armor than we see in the art. Sort of a type of laced lamellar. It was a nice addition to the gloves, however.
-
They were ruins left from the original Zor civilization. They were greenhouses that contained the remaining ProtoZor.
-
It was nice to see Tommy included the sabre (vibroblade?) on Nova's shield. It was among the items that have only recently come to light while doing research with the OSM images.

Robotech Shadow Force

Probably in all likelihood he will look something akin to Gloval. I believe I've heard that the SC-style uniform was retained as an interim uniform...but probably only for the SDF-3 crew. There is also the formal uniform that Wolfe wears in his flashback as well as the uniform of Major Carpenter and the crew of the UES Hannibal. The Mars Division uniform doesn't lend itself well without something like a leather jacket to put all your ribbons/medals on. So...he'll probably have grey hair...and maybe a moustache. -

Actually... the Invid in Robotech have conventional sensors. They can detect and use radio waves. They can block HyperComm signals with the broadcast towers. Also, the Protoculture detection gear appears to be something new to the Invid as of the 21st Mars Division's landing. Otherwise Scott Bernard and the others would have known to shut down their mecha to keep from being detected. Also, the Robotech Masters can detect protoculture emissions (they speak of such in eps. #37 Dana's Story). So its not just tech that can be used against one set of enemies in Robotech. -

Seriously...while the name sounds kinda goofy....be honest folks. Most of you would piss on it cause you don't like Robotech. I pray its just the working title...but probably not. -
I believe I have read that in fact this version of King Arthur is based on Lucius Artorius Castus....who was a member of the Roman Equestrian class. That means the Knights are in fact Roman Equestrians. Guinevere is probably based on Boadicea. Since this is the case, the use of Lorica Segmentata isnt necessarily wrong...but I don't believe that cavalrmen wore that. I think they wore Lorica Squamata (metal scale/jazzeraint).

While Excalibur is a fantastic adaptation of Mallory's Le Morte D'Arthur, I find it hard to watch at times considering its supposed to portray Britain during the 6th Century A.D. Of course, that mostly has to do with Mallory casting Arthur into his time when jousting and chivalry were in their flower. Fully articulated steel plate simply didn't exist at that time and Ive come to dislike it greatly because of its overuse in movies where it didn't exist (The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is a great example of this). Even the Roman Lorica Segmentata that is shown in the newest King Arthur film by Jerry Bruckheimer was not in use anymore (I believe they had lost the technical means of making such armor). Of course, the new Bruckheimer movie could well be about another figure that they believe might be the basis for Arthur...one who lived in the late 2nd Century AD and was a Roman Cavalryman...which would be in keeping with the look of the new movie. But leave it to Bruckheimer to cheese up the movie by having Launcelot wielding two Roman cavalry broadswords/spatha's. Drizzt Do'Urden has been a plague and a nuisance in the world of fiction for wielding two scimitars....a feat that is impossible unless your built like Arnold. I will give Excalibur a thumbs up in regards to the soundtrack. It truly is impressive.

I'm Close To Converting From Robotech
1st Border Red Devil replied to a topic in Movies and TV Series
Nice to see that generalization of all Robotech fans is alive and well at MacrossWorld. Welcome Kamjin_Prime from the sole light of good and decency to these boards....the lone Southern Cross fan amidst the sea of Macrossies. -
Oh come now....just cause you can 'grok' someone doesnt make it all that bad... Seriously though, Paul Verhoven and his cronies said that they hated the book and never intended to be faithful in any way shape or form. That is the heighth of arrogance in my opinion. Thats a rich a-hole deciding that he thinks you're small minded and he's decided he's gonna piss on your shoulder and say its raining. He's a jackass of the highest order.

Newbie Questions on Macross
1st Border Red Devil replied to Roy Focker's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
No...thats the novels take on Robotech. The Tv series isnt specific any more than we know Protoculture is used in generating immense power (which suggests its involved in advanced nuclear fusion). Its referred to as both a substance (which isnt defined) and a process (good luck trying to understand that). The only 'mystical' properties in the show is the apparent religious overtones that Masters/Zor Lords have for the Flower of Life. -
Its a Don Yee piece people.
