Newbie Questions on Macross
1st Border Red Devil replied to Roy Focker's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Well, I thought they got sucked into a black hole...since the center of the galaxy contains a super-massive black hole. -
The only things I see that came from Macross is the collar on the uniform/cape and Louie's hair.
-
Well...Louie would be about 35 at this point....so its potentially possible that he changed somewhat over time. Maybe he started lifting weights? The cape is the only throwback to Southern Cross...at least there was that. This particular one is based on the overcoat worn by Leonard in The Sentinels which was in turn based on the Southern Cross formal uniform from This is Animation Special #10: The Southern Cross. As for the designs, they are supposedly right from the Newtype USA November '04 issue. I really like the design for the Horizon-V. Looks beefy enough to actually carry more cargo and troops planetside.

Sorry, no. Cory Holmes is right. The Sensor Nebula detects the presence of the Flower of Life, though the UEF thought otherwise. Scott's Horizon commander made a statement that the Invid moved to retrieve a large supply of active protoculture on Earth. In the Tv series, they don't connect the Flower with Protoculture just yet. The new comics from Wildstorm got that part wrong. As for Invid sensors, its a moot point anyway. They didn't react to the 21st Mars Division's entry attempt until Low Earth Orbit in The Invid Invasion. We see why later in Symphony of Light as the REF stays at stand-off range and pretty well scrags any Invid carrier that reaches above LEO. Edit: Courtesy of the folks at RDF HQ Message Board. From the latest issue of Newtype USA. There isnt one of Space Station Liberty...but it was revealed that it was based on the Robotech Repair Factory from The Sentinels. Thats no surprise to me....all things considered since I had known that for a long time.

I think you're mistaken Anubis. Prophecy had Christopher Walken as Gabriel and Viggo Mortensen as Lucifer. It was about the war with Heaven. Gabriel led another 3rd of the Heavenly Host in a war against the Holy Host because he (and the rebels) felt that Man was not worthy of their adoration. Of course, this time the Heavenly Host didn't have the power to cast the offending Elohim (Angels) into the Abyss. Prophecy II was about the birth of a new Nephilim. Had cutie Brittany Murphy as one messed up chick who talks her boyfriend into a lover's suicide only to be saved from death (much to her chagrin) by Christopher Walken/Gabriel. Prophecy III follows Gabriel (who has become human) as he is drawn back into the war he started. I don't remember a mutated bear...but then again Im most familiar with Prophecy II. -
Except, thats right. Kenji Terada was hired as a consultant.
-
Hmm...sounds interesting. I never played the original and I don't really remember it. However, its sounds cool that they are revitalizing a classic.

Hehe....

And if it doesn't make your eyes bleed or ears implode?

Funny enough, Tommy Yune didn't deny in chat that Shadow Chronicles would be recut in Japan as a different anime series...maybe a sequel to Mospeada. He didn't confirm it, but did say it would make sense from a financial stand point. So its possible that all the Mospeada fans will have a new show. Thanks to Darkwater over at the RDF HQ MB. He transcribed this from the latest Newtype USA.

Since that was a swipe at me.... It actually has nothing to do with the Southern Cross fanbase. We have more than five people smartass. Christ.... Its more about those that still cling futilely to Macek's version of The Sentinels, novel fans and the whole Early Return/Late Return debate. Then add in the few die-hard RPG fans who aren't either McKinneyists or Early Returners. No company is going to satisfy everyone. Macross and Gundam are just as susceptible to factionalism as Robotech...or any other fanbase for that matter. It goes with the territory. As for who is writing Shadow Force/Chronicles...it isn't Tommy Yune.
-
The idea behind the Mospeada designs reappearing has mostly to do with the fact the story takes place right after eps. #85. Most of them have undergone a refit (they would be 20+ yr old designs in Robotech by 2044). Its called life extension. Its a warship from Southern Cross actually, the Algada to be specific (though we later see 3 more that the SC throw at the Zor in the final battles). No name that we know of for classification. The warship on the bottom right hand is the Tristar-class Cruiser Leader from Southern Cross as well. I don't believe it will be reappearing for Shadow Force/Chronicles as Im fairly confident (unfortunately) that the design was retired after the Invid Invasion due to the losses to the Masters in the 2nd Robotech War. However, the REF has a new design that will replace the Tristars in their fleet, as the Ikazuchi is incapable of fulfilling the same role.

Robotech and HG license debates

Heh, we'll have to agree to disagree. Its the capital ship battles that did it for me. I've loved space battles between opposing fleets ever since I saw Return of the Jedi. -
RHE-0[...] Reaction Weaponry

Yes, enhanced artillery. I believe the US Army is working on a Radar or LiDAR active homing round. I also believe there are currently wire-guided/semi-active artillery rounds. -

Heh, I just transcribed this about an hour ago over at the RDF HQ MB. See how I spend my time off from work being a total geek.... Eps. #44 The Trap Bowie: What is it? Louie: Spare parts of androids! Bowie: Yea, look over there. Its like some sort of assembly line. Louie: I think you're right Bowie. Just imagine the bio-technical knowledge this represents. Its fantastic. Dana: I've never seen anything so gruesome. Bowie: Too bad we didn't bring a cam-recorder with us. Dana: Ooh, don't touch it Louie! Louie: Ok, but look at how lifelike the texture is. It isnt cold or metallic like our old cyborgs. While we might call robots androids, it appears that androids in Robotechrequire flesh (though it can be a clone) implanted with cybernetics while an actual cyborg is totally metal. It does confuse things, but on the whole its not necessarily bad. I just hope that someone at HG had this idea that these are what the JANUS series should be instead of what Macek came up with. Edit: Its not as if artificial intelligence is something necessarily beyond the grasp of humans in Robotech. They already began experimenting with drones in combat starting with the QF-3000E Ghost and then on to the VQ-6 Vandal, VQ-6X Shadow Drone and QSR-19 Garm GMP Bot. Hell, even the drink machines, vidphones and such from The Macross Saga could be considered bots. And though I generally have little love for anything Macek came up with, he seems to have confused the Logan with what he calls the Logan in Drone Bomber Configuration.....implying that there could have been a drone version of the Logan in The Sentinels: VQ-8 Logan. -

Heh, about the only 'decent' Cannon Film ever was the first Delta Force...if you can get past the stupidity of them using mini-Uzi's and motorcycles with rockets, mortars and sub-machineguns. Of course compared to MegaForce...... -
Robotech and HG license debates

Heh...nice. Actually....I find the Macross and Mospeada to be less action oriented than Southern Cross (especially the later eps. of SC with all the space battles). -

Little more news... Louie Nichols is confirmed as returning (there was a pic of the new him in Animation Magazine) with a cyborg (droid in otherwords) that bore a resemblance to Janice Em (the JANUS-series). It appears that he is one of the people in the Robotech Research Group now (or could be the head of the organization). I'll have to see if someone at RDF HQ MB has scanned it. -
RHE-0[...] Reaction Weaponry
1st Border Red Devil replied to Aurel Tristen's topic in Movies and TV Series
Would the EMP matter? Arent the reaction weapons carried by the VF-1 only a 1 kiloton yield? The EMP from the would be relatively miniscule.
