  1. Anzone noticed that the Mac2 tomahawk is based on the original tomahawk design, and the destroid in mac0 IS related to the original tomahawk (made around the same time) also both are Macross destroids --> no problem for me there It was just an observation. Just becuase a piece of gear carries the same moniker doesn't mean that it has to follow the same form or function. eg the P-47 has no resemblance to A-10, although they are both named Thunderbolt.
  2. Mac II Destroid
  3. That the Mac Zero Destroid that Sithlord posted has a resemblance to the Mac II Tomahawk? Mac 0 Destroid

    An idea

Everytime there is a request for new kit, or a poll on what people want. All you seem to hear is VF this or that. How about some decent 1/72 scale enemy. Surely a Regult in 1/72 would have plenty of scope as you could then produce the add on for the various missle variants. Who wouldn't want a 72nd scale Glaug, Q rau N ger, or even Zentran Infantry in a couple of different poses. C'mon lets widen our scope a little here!
  5. The RAAF is in the same boat here, the bean counters want to replace the F-111 and the F/A-18 HUG's that we have with less total numbers of F-35's, it doesn't really make sense to me. I remember when I was working with a RAAF Herc Squadron, that most of the C-130E's we had were at around 25000 hours +, some had more than other of course as every Squadron has it's Hanger Queen. 6. Hey, I don't sopose anyone would be willing to post some Future would they? You can't get the stuff here in Aus. It isn't classed as a flammable so shipping should be easy. PM me if anyone is willing to help out, as I've been chasing some of this for a while. Cheers, Berttt
  7. The paint underneath the Dullcote was Humbrol Clear gloss, that had been dry for about four or five days as I slowly got around to putting on all the decals. The crazy thing is the Dullcote didn't consistantly ruin the surface, on some parts it's the whole surface, other bits just a little, but not one part was spared.
  8. Well that's it! Last night I was putting the finishing touches to my Hasegawa Cannon Fodder VF-1A, when evertyhing went sour. After many hours of carful gluing, puttying, sanding and painting, the damn thing was looking nice, just had to put the last flat clear on it. So out I go, get my trusty can of Testors Dullcote ( I normally don't use spraycans, but I've seen the finish this stuff can give and it's not too bad) bang it on the model, and wouldn't you know this crap starts crazing the paint ARGGGGHHH!!! wrecking decals and all. Talk about frustrating! I packed the whole lot into the box and shoved it in the bottom of my pile in disgust. There is no good news here, but it was lucky I had another one so I whipped it out and started again right then and there. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR Berttt Beware the Devil Dullcote will get you too!!!!!
  9. cool i'm sure we'll bump into each other again.
  10. Well I think I've exhausted my knowledge things that go bang. It was back in '98-99 when i last had anything to do with that stuff. It's too complex a system to apply rules of thumb to anyway. So David Hingtgen do you have a background in the military, or is it justa passing interest? Berttt
  11. Well maybe over there it is, but in Australian service practice rounds have are blue over all, with clearly visable "INERT" stenciled on them, all live bombs are OD green (including mortar bombs, claymores and grenades) with the relevant stripes, and all rockets and missiles are white. I thought that this was NATO standard, but after what you said that might just be the colour of the stripes only. Berttt
  12. The coloured stripes indicate what explosive filler is used. Yellow for high explosive, brown for low explosive. I can't quite remember what red is for, but it might have something to do with white phosporous or with fusing. White (or light grey if you prefer) on missiles or rockets indicates a live weapon, olive drab for bombs and stuff. Berttt
  13. I am by no means a boffin, but the replacement for the E-3 will use a phased array, eliminated the need for a large rotating radar. As I understand it phase arrays enable the operator to "steer" the signal to where it is needed. If the aircraft flies around then I'm sure it would be able to be pick up returns from aircraft in a near 360 degrees in both the x and y axis. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Berttt
  14. I've seen a WWII Avenger done in an all black scheme, where the black on the bottom of the wing was quite dark and factory like, and top had all the panels lightened by spraying on some base coat with a bit of white mixed in. The paint was worked from the centre of the panel out, leaving the panel lines dark. Black is not really my thing but from what i've seen you have to reverse the clours you would normally use on a light colour, instead of dark colors for stains, try using medium and light greys instead. Berttt
  15. VF-11 as it was the first new Valyrie design I'd seen in years, and I ust finished a 1/144 scale in Tigermeet colors. WOOHOO!! Berttt
  16. That's what every bastard retailer here says! But I find I can't get the same high quality finish with Alclad.
  17. I want to get hold of some of this stuff to apply to a section on a valk that has no paint, but you can't get it in Australia, does anyone know of a store that would be willing to ship it out here? Here is a link to SNJ's website. Thanks, Berttt http://www.snjmodelproducts.com/
  18. Hey!! the RAAF Herc was built by a guy I know here in Sydney Aus. i think that was like his first 1/48 scale areoplane. He went a long way detailing the inside, it's all lit up and even has a UH-1 Iriquios in the cargo compartment as a load. For more photos and stuff, go here: http://hsfeatures.com/c130hmob_1.htm
  19. Count me in. Berttt
  20. The old board had wm cheng's step by step write ups for the VE-1 and YF-19 formattd in PDF. Any chance that we can get this one done as well? Man these models inspire me to get off my lazy arse and the ones I've got that are still in their boxes.
  21. Sorry Guys but the Australian Cam is nothing like the US choc chip. See below for our current desert cam. and a pic of the scheme aour hornets had in the gulf
  22. Oh, so that's what they were talking about when they were waffling on about energy transfer? But do we really know how many centimetres of steel would equal the overtechnology armour? Getting back to the original thread, I can't see VF's being the only hardware at use in the UNSPACY. Take the F-22 for example, a good fighter that will do it's job like no other, but I don't see the US Airforce only buying them. At a cost of around 200 Million a piece, it makes sense to bulk out your forces with less expensive aircraft, ala F-35's and Super Hornets. I could see VF's being used as the backbone, with dedicated fixed and rotary assets being used on colony worlds, and dedicated space fighters used out with the fleets. As for unmanned vehicles, I can't see them being totally effecive until they can operate unmonitered, thus eliminating EM transmissions.
  23. I'll agree with the cool factor, but I don't know about a VF being as good as atank on the ground. Any infantry with a man portable antitank weapon could seriously hurt a VF in battroid modeif fighting was occuring in a city, and with a profile about ten times as big, how could they miss. The only way I can see them being effecive on the ground is if it open terrian (if so why land, why not just fly around strafing everything), or if they flew around in a battlefield helicopter type role (hiding in valleys, popping up all over the place etc), or just land unload on anything you see and get out quick. And you might say that a VF can do all these things, but the old "Jack of all trades, master of none" applies, and at a wopping great cost. But one thing overides all of thses arguments; It cool to watch transforming planes beat the hell out of all alien scum!!
  24. Many thanks for your reply. This should help a lot. Brett
  25. I'm putting the finishing touches to a Hase VF-1S and I'm giving some thought to a bashed gerwalk from the Battroid and Fighter kits, I've had a bit of a look and it doesn't seem that difficult. But I have a lack of detailed drawings of the GERWALK joint that connects the arm the rest of the fuselage. can anyone help out? Berttt
