  1. LOL I know a bloke that gets all his goodies delivered to a mates address for just this reason. Don't let em fool ya - they dip in for little presents for themselves And besides is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
  2. Hey quit posting unless its pictures of that VF-22 sans masking tape! Nice work there P5 I have been known to paint a few miniatures myself.
  3. I'd get one and sort the rest out later V7.
  4. Thanks P5 but I have some already. I had planned on using it except I realised that rather than the lines radiating from a central point they would all run parallel. Cheers, Berttt Forgot to add the time count 2 .5 hours
  5. Aww gee thanks fellas A small update for today. I had been both wondering how to represent the detail of the foot and dreading the thought of all the resin that wold have to be removed when I realised I could make this easy on myself. Now the detail I am talking about are the little vents/fins on the heel of the monster (colored in red on my first post) when I realised all I had to do was chamfer that area and glue on some strip steyrene and viola! So with no further thought I got out a bastard file and went to town with the following results: I pencilled in some lines so you get the idea - though ignore the ones that run along the "sole" of the foot as that was me getting carried away. It has only been roughed in for now but I should be able to achieve what I was after. Now it just needs a little finesse. Cheers, and thanks for the support.
  6. I don't really know why i have suddenly decided to launch into this, but it seems the time has come to build my copy of Mike's 1/72 HWR-00-MKII Monster Kit. At this point I should mention that I am a fairly ambitious builder. By that I mean I have all sorts of plans in my head that often outstrip my capacity as a mediocre model builder. Here are my plans for the Monster: 1) Detailed feet 2) Rescribed panel detail throughout 3) Rifled Barrels 4) Missile Hatch covers for the arms (thanks Sean aka HWR-MKII) 5) Smoke Dispensers I'll add in any more ideas as they come to me. Also for the first time ever I will be recording how many hours this bloody thing is going to suck out of my life and it'll be interesting to see how long it'll take. So with no further ado here is the first installment: Above are all the parts laid out on my work bench. Monster by name and Monster by nature - this thing is huge. I think I will have to add a figure or some ground vehicles into the mix to give it some sense of scale. Here are some close ups of the parts. Mike did an awesome job on this kit and to be honest I reckon it was a steal at something like USD$250.00 when it was first released (pretty sure it was about that). But as good as Mike's interpretation is there are just a few bits here and there I'll change. It seem that as a victim of AMS I can't leave anything well enough alone these days. You may have noticed some other kits in the background, well please indulge me as I post a close up of some of them. These critters will be competing for time with the Monster so I may be posting images of their progress from time to time - after all it is a monster thread: 1/35 Dragon Pz.IV Ausf D 1/35 Italeri 234/3 1/48 Tamya Panther Ausf G 1/72 Moscato Scout Pod 1/72 Club M VF-11 1/24 Lancia (Batou'side from GiTS) But on to the Monster. Remember that bit I mentioned about being ambitious? Well here is your first taste - detailed feet. Really there is nothing wrong with Mike's version, but I wanted mine to look like the different part of the foot were separate rather than one integrated unit. Above is Mike's foot OOB with some notes as to what I plan to do with it. And here is some line art to give you some idea of what I am chasing (all graciously stolen from the Macross Mecha Manual- thank Mr. March). But the big question is can I pull it off. It'll either be a nice feather in my cap - or one of the greatest Macross Modelling travesties your likely to witness So at the first oppurtunity I took a hacksaw and dremel to the feet and found myself with this: As you can see there is still quite a bit of cleaning up and making everything symmetrical, but I think I may be in with a chance. I have an idea in my head for some detail around the toe with some nice hydraulic rams and structural bits. As a reference for this I have been Googling for images of heavy earth moving equipment - there is some nice inspiration there. Most of the work I do here will have to take into account the weight of the kit. So I will be building in a fair amount of sturdiness to whatever I come up with to make sure this thing lasts. That's it for this update and with a bit of luck I'll find some more time soon to press on. AT this point I would like to say that nay feedback is most welcome - by that I mean I am not some pansy who's going to poo his pants if he get some constructive criticism. After all I'll need all the help I can get. Total time so far: 2 hours of planning and cutting. Cheers, Berttt
  7. Hi MT. Great work so far man - I have been looking for 1/200 destroids ( after all a project like this should be sponsored) but finding any at a edcent price ahs been tough. Right now there is a Spartan for sale at USD$18.70! Bloody stupid, not to mention shipping down here and then back over to you. How many destroids are you going to need anyway? Cheers, Berttt
  8. Lets see I have the following built or on the bench: 1/72 VF-1A Battroid CF (Hasegawa) 1/72 VE-1 (Hasegawa) 1/72 VF-1S/w Atmospheric Booster (Hasagawa/Monkey Models) 1/72 Spiderbug (Karakorum) 1/72 VF-1J in RAAF colours (Hasegawa) 1/72 YF-19 (Hasegawa) 1/72 VF-11 (Resin) - on bench 30% complete 1/72 Regult Scout (Moscato Models) - 40% complete 1/144 Tigermeet VF-11 and Many many more unbuilt but not enough time to fnish them
  9. All things considered it not bad. My biggest gripe was the torso, but if you deleted the inverted dome on the bottom of the torso so it sat flat it wouldn't be too bad. Like Johnsaid the rocket bay covers don't hingee all the way up properly but for me thats not a deal breaker. I say good on Wave for having a go, and even as is a little TLC would bring this up nicely - and for a fraction of the cost of John's kit.
  10. Paid for one kit
  11. Thats definitely WM CHeng's Hasegawa kit. I can't remember who did it but there was a whole bunch like this put out - great work whoever it was.
  12. hey things are coming along nicely. Hopefully work won't get in the way and I'll be there - bringing as much built steyrene and resin as I can squeeze in the car
  13. Thats my point. Enjoy the first couple of kits rather than getting gunshy on those old kits. By hasegeawa I mean an F-16 or something common and affordable.
  14. Cheaper but not nastier. Go pick up a late Hasegawa or Tamiya kit in 1/72 and have a go. Don't be tempted by cheapo or older kits. You'll regret it otherwise.
  15. Cool I am Newcastel but have familiy in Brisbane so it could be an excuse to drive up there
  16. Nice work John. One thing that comes across in these images is that you seem to be enjoying the creation process of these unique pieces - right on man!
  17. For anyone that has an Aztek and is having trouble spraying nice tight lines like you used to be able to, go here for a visual guide on disassembling and cleaning the Aztek 400 series airbrush. http://www.master194.com/encyclo/aztec/index.htm Mine used to gum up like this and no amount of thinners sprayed through it was going to fix it. Paint would build up on the little "wedge" and prevent the needle closing fully, thereby limiting how fine my lines would be. And before anyone harps on about it I know you are not supposed to pull them apart. It'll viod your warranty blah blah. But like Cowie pulling the nozzle apart you sometimes have to physically clean the crap out to get it running smoothly again. Anyway you only get a limited warranty on these now (no more lifetime warranty) and unless you kpt your reciept good luck proving that you bought yours before the policy change. As for the Paasche VL being crap - I could understand why you'd be cranky with the tips as I ahve done the same thing myself being a little heavy handed. But it is still more robust than the Aztek IMHO. and I can get crazy fine lines for 1/72 scale camoflage like my Aztek has never been able to do. Horses for course though as they say. Cheers, Berttt
  18. Nicfe work Cowie. Are you getting the new wave 1/100 VF-1?
  19. I'll say Cowie! I have an Aztek double action 430 and I hate the bloody thing! The nozzles wear out and no matter what you do paint creeps inside and clogs the brush up preventing you spraying fine line as the needle is never able to close the nozzle properly. I now use a pasche VL and haven't looked back. But I do know other blokes that swear by them.
  20. Sounds interesting. Since the John Tomahawk has been the best interpretation yet of the linart, I'll be curious as to what they come up with. And here I was thinking that new 1/72 steyrene SDF macross kits were a pipe dream
  21. Hey John I know I had to bal on the Kamjin figure but this one I will definitely go for.
  22. man that would have to be one of the most complete macross collections in Oz. I thought I was doing well but I'll have to tip my hat good man Berttt
  23. Hey nice work dude! Youdon't see enough builds of any type lately let alone cool builds of these old schol kits. Props man. Berttt
  24. The parting line on the chext will be there so they can have a differenf forward chest and nose for a VF-1D
  25. Thanks Cowie and yeah, a night fighting version - or something. I had to do something considering I broke the clear windscreen and really didn't want to scrap the kit. I still have to add lenses and stuff.
