Wasn't the HD-DVD camp working on a higher storage capacity? Blu-Ray's storage capacity is a moot point. Higher bit-rate? I'm sure we all know having a higher bit-rate doesn't ensure a quality picture. I sure hope HD-DVD doesn't die. -

Speaking of the song, I really hope they add the bass back to the song in the 'final/official version' of this episode. The bass makes the song all the better imo.... -

Funny thing...my father just recently bought a new Sharp 46" HDTV and needed a new cable box (so he could get the HD channels). Well, the guys that came to set up the new box hooked it up all wrong on the back of the TV; I had to go back there and correct things. It just amazes me that these persons couldn't even get it right when they work for a cable company. I mean...call it laziness or what have you, but there's just no excuse for setting up something wrong when it's your job to go in and set it all up right. ...It's not just your "average Joe" that's an idiot. -
I would have thought there would have been a faster way than that. I couldn't imagine working on 2 hrs worth of subtitles making sure they're all timed right. As for the whole more grain thing, I was looking at the results of using DVDLab Pro...and I think I had the capacity set wrong (dunno if it makes a difference or not but)...had it on DVD-5 and not DVD-9. I'm thinking maybe it was shrinking the movie to fit a DVD-5 disc. Hurin, when you say burn...are you actually using DVDs to test? If so, I'd suggest creating an image and using Daemon Tools instead. It's what I was doing trying to get your R2 subtitles on the rip.
-
Well, I somehow managed to get the subtitles to work...only now they're out of sync...and by about 3 or so seconds it seems. I tried the 'Offset' feature within DVD-lab PRO but it hasn't helped at all. I can't seem to find a way to preview the subtitles before I compile the DVD...and there's no way in hell I'm gonna adjust them all one by one...compile after compile just so they're all right. There's got to be a faster way of adjusting them all.
-
That's what I did, I pointed it to the "new" file and it'd take it. However, after all was said and done the subtitles still did not appear.
-
Well, I decided to finally open it late last night and I watched it on my PC (using one of those region-free programs). I must say, it looks absolutely amazing! This grain you talk about, Mercurial Morpheus, seems pretty much nonexistent to me on the DVD. I also tried to add subtitles using Hurin's Bandai/Emotion R2 subtitles. After I used DVD Decrypter I went to see what the quality was like on the rip; the quality isn't as nice as it was on the DVD itself; there's a lot more grain. I'm thinking the tool used to rip the DVD isn't all that high quality...? Anyway, for whatever reason, I can't seem to get the subtitles to work! I followed all the steps step by step and I still can't get the subtitles to show up. One thing I have noticed though is that one of the files is named differently. "VTS_01_1 - 0x80 - Audio - AC3 - 2ch - 48kHz - DRC - Japanese - DELAY 0ms.AC3" is the file I have, but Hurin's 'project' asks for "VTS_01_1 - 0x80 - Audio - AC3 - 2ch - 48kHz - DRC - Japanese - DELAY 66ms.AC3." Selecting my file as is doesn't seem to work. Any ideas, guys? Thanks!

Hahaha, I'm in the same boat as you. I have it sitting right in front of me as well, but I can't seem to get myself to open it. Edit: I'm actually thinking of buying a second copy of the movie...just so I don't have to open the one i have now.... It's what I ended up doing with the Animeigo box sets for Macross TV.

No, I hadn't; sorry. I haven't been anywhere near a computer since the 22nd of December till late last night...I just now caught up on the 630 or so posts in this thread. I can only imagine what I've missed in the "part III" news thread. Thank you Azrael and Kresphy for pointing me in the right direction! ~~~ As for my thoughts on the special. I'm stoked about what I saw. I'm not as bothered by the transformation anymore. The character drawings aren't all that grand...but they work. From when we first heard about Macross Frontier I've always thought that the new series would somehow tie in with the APHOS; after watching the special I still believe the same. I guess only time will tell...I can't wait!!! Edit: As for the Macross II vibe...the 'Red Space Monster' reminded me of the Gigamesh. -

I can't seem to find the trailer for the second episode. =( I've checked all of the links on the first post of this thread. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks! -
The Bandai/Emotion version, right?
-
...What does that mean for us residents in the States? I just got mine from Amazon.co.jp today. I haven't opened it yet either. I don't suppose it really matters since I can't read Japanese...but still it'd be nice if it was correct.

Nevermind...I figured out my problem.

Still going to go with a 720p unit? And if so, same models still? I'm still thinking long and hard about it...but every time I do I come back to the 1080p set from Sharp at 32". -
I don't see how it isn't profitable already. Are those who prefer subtitles over dubs really in the minority? I don't know about you guys (and I don't mean to derail the topic) but, I find it distracting/annoying when the voices aren't in sync with the mouth movements; it's one of the reasons why I prefer subs over dubs. Moreover, just like people who calibrate their TVs so they can view the content as it was meant to be seen...I too I want to hear the content as it was meant to be heard. ...And dubs aren't how the content was meant to be heard, otherwise you wouldn't have the synchronization problem with the mouths. Surely I'm not the only one who feels this way. Hence why I don't see how it isn't already profitable.

I agree completely; couldn't have said it better myself. -
Well, I guess I'm a pirate then and will always be with the way things are now. Call me a consequentialist, but at least I support what I download (through imports and purchases) and to me the ends justify the means.
-
How's it stealing if I'm buying imported anime (all in thanks to fansubs)?
-
Well, I would have never bought a lot of the anime that I have if it weren't for the fansubs. A lot of what I've bought hasn't been aired in the U.S. (at least not in my area...with what I have available) like it has in Japan. So these companies are gaining a profit off a demographic that they aren't even broadcasting to. Also, I don't know about you, but I have yet to see a fansub that wasn't pixelated or compressed somehow...and I'm one that likes to have the best picture quality possible. So there's another incentive for me to buy and or import.
-
Well, I'll say this much: if it weren't for the fansubbers I wouldn't have bought nearly all of the anime DVDs that I have to this day. Moreover, I sh*t on the whole "crossed your doorstep" and left your "control" copyright bullshit. I could understand if it was a DVD that was fansubbed, but if this was something that was broadcast live on Japanese TV...those who are going to uphold the "crossed your doorstep" and left your "control" 'law' can suck it. I don't see how they could be losing any profit from me watching something that isn't in the States or isn't even on DVD yet. Thanks for clarifying things in regards to the law.
-
I hadn't read that far when I had posted, but it confirms everything I said....
-
Don't you mean it's punishable ONLY if they're making profit off it? Take "this telecast is copyrighted by the NFL for the private use of our audience..." for example. It is currently legal to use a recording device to record a television show for private viewing. So you and I can both record a NFL game for our own private use.... I see fansubs in the same light...only it's someone else who recorded the show off the tube (rather than my own self)...and in the end I use that recording for my own private use...like I would any other recorded show that I've recorded. I'm not making any money off it (just like fansubbers aren't), and I'm not trying to claim it as my own; I'm just simply watching something that was recorded off the tube...for my own private use. Tis how I see it all anyway.

Well, I placed an order for the Limited Edition and Flashback 2012; I can't wait!

For the record, there are people who do care about Macross II, thank you very much! I'm still thinking Macross F will be related to the APHOS/AFOS.... I can't wait till the 31st of December! -

I was thinking of replying to ya in the other thread, or even in PM, but I figured going through here would probably better. So why are you thinking of going with a 720p set...or more specifically the Sony 32S3000? I looked at that set on Amazon.com and they're selling it for about $100 less than Sharp's 32" 1080p LC-32D62U on the same site. From the looks of things, it's going for $1,099 in the stores? The 1080p set can be found for about $200 more in stores.... I've read that it's going to be hard to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p at 32" and less...but I figure if you're gonna be spending that much money...why not fork over a little more for a higher resolution?
