Clash of the Titans - remake teaser
captain america replied to Vermillion21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Bah, in an ideal scenario, they would have remained more faithful to the original story and not put a "Kraken" in the film at all, but considering Hollywood's unquenchable need to exaggerate, "improve" and over-dramatize everything on celluloid... The Kraken looks fair. Doesn't hold a candle to Ray Harryhausen's version though. -
Not a good idea, considering the amount of weight that sits atop the hull.

-Empress was done by both Volks and WSC in 1/100 many mooms ago (10-15 years.) -A-Toll Politi Scritti--done by Kaiyodo in 1/144, and also as a WonderFest model in 1/100 -Berlins were done by Volks and Wave in 1/144, and 1/100 by Kaiyodo and Volks; the latter's offerings are considered the best overall, though they're over 20 years old.

The emperor in L-Gaim is Posseidal (Ladios Sopp) L-Gaim has an Auge, and so does FSS L-Gaim has Bat-Shu, FSS vas the Vatshu L-Gaim has the Nouvel Desserd, which looks like the Rouge Mirage. Plus, the L-Gaim itself is an early concept for the FSS Junchoon... It's much like looking at L. Frank Baum's Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus and then the Wizard of Oz; you see many of the same elements in progressive transition.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that, and I dare say that Bandai would have to pry a FSS license from his cold, dead hands. Nagano made FSS the way it is because of Bandai's interference and meddling in the Zeta Gundam and L-Gaim TV series (in fact, FSS is a kind of re-telling of L-Gaim); they wanted mecha that were toy-friendly and not overly-difficult to animate, and this is to say nothing of Bandai's likely influence on the stories themselves. On these points, I back Nagano 100% for wanting to keep FSS out of the clutches of the establishment. In fact, Kaiyodo had even (briefly) marketed a series of FSS Mortar Headd toy figures back in the late 90s, but Nagano didn't renew that licence because it seems he felt that the product was not up to the standard for FSS in general. I think that the best thing you can hope to get in terms of "affordable" Mortar Headds are the new plastic offerings by Volks (Bang Doll/Vatshu.) These latter offerings are certainly a step above previous plastic FSS kits, but still not in the same league as the resin kits.

Oh, and Cobywan, that issue of Mecha Press was released in late '92, not '89... Number 6 I think it was, right before they started adding that color center section.
-
I think that Nagano is merely coasting on the royalty revenues for the franchise now, having seemingly abandoned the manga or any story continuity altogether. While I think that this is perhaps one of the greatest manga series out there (or at least used to be) I find it a bit sad to see it on virtual life-support, with token kit releases and the occasional, re-hashed art book every 2 years or so. Oh well, at least I still have my resin kits.

JSI 1/18 Scale F-14 Tomcat Announced
captain america replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
THE first alongside VF-1, in fact. I too think that VF-2 would have made for a more attractive choice of livery... Or VF-213, which was another longstanding and distinguished Tomcat squadron. -
Probably challenging enough that I wouldn't recommend it as a first build.

OMG, the paint job on that plane is just wrong... And so are a host of other significant details, but that's another story altogether. Somebody wake me up if they do a D variant. -
**Author's own opinion. No value assured, no liability assumed, does not constitute legal advice.** People can do whatever they want with their property, whether that entails reselling it (or at least trying) at an exorbitant rate, giving it away, or even destroying it. Don't like the price someone is selling THEIR property for? Make a counter-offer, or don't buy it; simple as that. Oh, and as far as this notion of "buying/hoarding/reselling" goes, I can only laugh because 9 times out of 10, people lose money on kits they decide to part with. On the issue of boxes, I guess I'm something of a contrarian because when it comes to a lot of vintage Macross,Mospeada, etc models, I place infinitely more value on the box/artwork than the actual kits within, which are, in my opinion, junk.

V remake - new TV series coming to ABC

Ditto. Most. Epic-est. Moment. Ever. The new V puts me to sleep, and if it maintains this pace, I doubt it will last a whole season, to say nothing of a second. -

Clash of the Titans - remake teaser
captain america replied to Vermillion21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Especially if they would've tried to do it with sock puppets! Granted, with CGI now, I think that it could be done both faithfully and realistically... I'm thinking back to how they got Yoda to saber-fight in AOTC; the idea would have seemed propostrous to most of us, right up until we saw the little green bugger in action... And then all doubt was erased. Ever so slightly off-topic, has anyone picked-up the Gentle Giants Kraken figure? Been searching for a review of it, but decent (non-official) pictures are all but impossible to find. -

I was an avid enthusiast of Greek mythology as a boy, and I can tell you quite sincerely that the Kraken is a creature taken from Norse mythology, not Greek. In the original story of Perseus, I think that Cassiopeia offends Poseidon with her vanity, prompting the latter to unleash a sea beast called Cetus (not a Titan by any stretch), who can only be appeased by a human sacrifice (Andromeda.) The original movie was essentially a mish-mash loosely based around the story of Perseus, with much creative re-writing. I really did like that particular rendition of the Kraken though; probably one of my all-time favourite monsters as a child. In fact, the original Clash of the Titans film departs rather wildly from the original mythology in soooooo many ways, but was still pleasant to watch. This newer rendition looks like it will also not be faithful to the source material, albeit in different ways. -

V remake - new TV series coming to ABC

Much like what we have now. I too thought that the pilot should've been longer, and allowed for a more progressive revelation of the hidden alien agenda; perhaps a 3 hour intro wasn't cost-effective. Either way, it was... Fair. Nothing special, but I'll keep an eye on the show, just in case it does get interesting. -

New molds from the existing masters... With a few touch-ups and improvements.
