    Very nice work Andrea. I really like that charcoal gray, reminds me of the YF-23. The good thing about aircraft painted in matt dark colors is that the color fades with exposure to sunlight, so there are always opportunities to show minute scuffs, paint retouches and general grime.

    More or less the same in terms of proportions (DX Renewal toy and 1/72 kit, I mean.) The kits are also priced at less than half what the DX toys are going for. As I stated previously, the styrene kit, even when well built will not stand up to frequent handling like the ABS+metal toy. It's really a matter of determining what you intend to do with it, followed by what you're willing to pay. Sandman: Bandai kits, be they Gundam or Macross, benefit from very similar engineering so you need not worry about build difficulty.

    Visually, the 1/72 kit is slightly more slender than the DX toy. It's also considerably more fragile and doesn't lock as well, particularly in fighter mode. If it's something that you're going to handle and play with, consider the toy. The model has more detail potential and is made to be admired more than handled. In some respects, I think that the VF-25 was the pinnacle transforming fighter (in terms of overall looks) and the VF-31 has taken a step backward in that respect. Time will tell if the actual kit has some redeeming qualities.

    In all fairness, the 1/72 VF-25 kits were very accurate to the line-art and while they can be floppy and have fitting issues, that's partly a design limitation brought about by the scale, size and general design. Things that looks great on-screen don't always translate well to physical products which must yield to the laws of physics. My biggest (but not exclusive) beef with the VF-31 samples we've seen are the hideously undersized girlie arms. I think that Mac Delta itself is a cruel joke from what I've seen so far, and the least that they could do is salvage the mecha designs.

    It most certainly is off proportionally... To the point that I would say that the old 1/5000 ARII tv version is nicer than this! Funny, toy companies manage to get the look and proportions of the MacroSS very nicely while having to make it transform, whereas Hasegawa lawn-darts in its attempt to make the same design with a single mode. You had one job, Hasegawa. ONE!!!

    I tried to like the new fighters and Delta in general, but I just can't do it. I can't for the life of me understand why Kawamori has designed such a fugly and overcomplicated midsection on the YF-19 battroid through down to the latest designs. The Captain weeps for the future of Macross designs.

    Their 1/144 kits look very respectable. The Batshu is ever-so-slightly nicer than their 1/100 offering, but I suspect that that has something to do with the time between releases and the refinements in the tooling process. The latest 1/100 kits (LED and Terror) are excellent.

    Nice build, I'm guessing he based himself on a 1/6 scale figure and built his parts around that. Pretty smart idea.

    Thanks Exo. Just a heads-up on the decal files guys: be sure that you delete that blue-gray background before you print. I had put that in there simply to make the white elements visible, in case people wanted to make some changes.

    Quick Monday update: casting is done, unless there are any last-minute orders. Most of the kits are packed, I have JUST NOW received the first half of my shipment of Kotobukiya hands and I'm about 2/3 done with the destructions, which will likely be posted tomorrow. Shipping will begin on Friday, and will begin working on the decal artwork next week.
