    Hello everyone, In light of Sentinel's 1/12 Mospeada releases, I wanted to see if there would be demand for a 1/12 HELPER CRAB (Protect Inbit doppleganger) model. I figured this would be a logical follow-up to the Motocycle Freak accessories set, and provide enthusiasts the ability to have an enemy mecha in scale with their bikes. Here's what I'm thinking: -resin-cast free-pose figure, possibly designed to work with aftermarket ball-joints -Clear sensor eye unit -Separate beam weapon and shield which can be mounted on the forearms or the back -Roughly 18cm tall -Will include fuel soda pack -Priced at about 300 CAD (From February 19th onward) Go!

    I tried offering that a few years ago. Response was meh. Maybe with the Sentinel figures out now, people would be more receptive.

    It's not even the calves themselves. Look at the Matchbox image above: the backpack module isn't even resting on them. You'd just need to be able to collapse the toes downward and the hinged forward lower-leg armor with it, then collapse the knee. Ironically, a 33 year old toy devoid of an official tank-mode still looks better than a 2018-19 offering with more advanced design technology. 'Splain that!

    I partially sanded the teeth on one side of the ratchet joint and inserted a washer which I machined. I can provide a step-by-step, but there are trade-offs with this mod: because the joints are now friction types, they aren't as stiff as the stock ratchets. Combine this with the rather hefty (metal) lower legs, and it will pretty much make jumping or flying poses impossible to hold, although uber-dynamic poses on his feet are still OK. Also, it's a one-way mod, so you can't really undo it. The only other solution would be to redesign the truck's front wheel wells (cameltoe) and the corresponding gray hip parts with smaller interlocking teeth.

    There are ratchets in the shoulders/hips for forward/backward motion, but they're crap because the gap between each set-point is ridiculously large. The movement is tight and solid, but doesn't allow for precise posing. I'll be fixing that in due course. *EDIT* Hip ratchets have been modified; now I can get a more heroic-looking standing pose. I've also added reflective window film to the inside of his winshield to brighten up hi s chest. I may tackle the shoulder joints before the weekend is out, and see if I can at least repaint the light gray on the face to something a tad darker.

    Nope. The closest thing to a plastic kit was the stillborn Imai 1/72 Tread, for which only a box illustration exists to my knowledge.

    I thought it was great! I'm torn because I want to see it again, but you can't unsee the plot twists and that affects the viewing experience.

    The other factor to bear in mind is that when you're producing small-run toys like this, you're sorta kinda relying on that factory's technical experience and expertise, or lack thereof to get your project done. My own experiences in dealing with Chinese manufacturers has left me wanting to pull-out my hair because frankly, most of the time they don't listen. Maas also has a limited time window in which to engineer the toy and get it to market because HG's hold on the license expires (I think) some time next year. Regardless of the outcome, I wish them the best.

    As someone who has direct experience in converting line-art to pragmatic 3D forms, I can tell you just from looking at that still of the Flash Clapper that it relies heavily on Anime magic to look that way. Look at how massive the front fairing and the backpack section below it are relative to the torso. The calves have also been flattened considerably compared to how they look in Battle Sniper mode. There are ways to achieve an aesthetically pleasing compromise, but Maas didn't succeed based on their pre-production images. In their defense, it really is an art that few seem to have mastered.

    Probably tinier. I can't recall if there were ever some "official" stats published for the Auroran, but just based on the size of the cockpit, it would have to be quite a bit taller than the Spartas.

    Cherry, apple and grape variations, since those share a fair amount of parts commonality. I'm reluctant to offer them now, because I think the SC market is already so small and I suspect maas may want to protect their sales at all costs. Not looking to put myself in a position to attract Imperial attention, if you know what I mean.

    Hey guys! I was planning to produce some 1/48 Bioroids last month, but with the timing of the new maas toys announcements and now some official Hovertank renderings being shown, I don't know if this would be such a good idea. What are your thoughts on the matter?

    We can only hope it's still in the development stage. Seriously, I could have done better than that with my eyes closed.

    I hear you, Ted. So many of the shapes, particularly the thighs have been highly simplified... For reasons I cannot explain, because it offers no advantage from a tooling or transformation perspective. I think there would be ways to play with the lower legs and the boxiness of the main body so as to better harmonize them when collapsed into Flash Clapper (hover) mode. Then again, no one asked me.
