$100 for a HDD...if you have an HDTV you'll need component cables. And the Core comes with a wired controller. A wireless one will set you back $50. Cables...$40 I think. Headset I 'm not sure. But the main thing are the HDD and cables.

I doubt that the gameplay in this racer will be long remembered. but maybe the wheel add -on will make up for it.

And this title has none of those 3. You are totally missing the point. And...no, they won't look as next gen as either of the other 2. Will games begin to look better? Sure..but not by leaps and bounds above what you see now. Not on that hardware. I agree with graphics don't make everything but that wasn't really the point of those screenshots. Wii is fun...but you cannot possibly tell me people are looking forward to that Ubisoft racer. The point was games can have all 3 nowadays. That one certainly is missing at least one and I'm sure it doesn't got a great story, so maybe it could have some interesting gameplay...it's a racer. Less than 200 out of over 8100 is poor and incomplete? c'mon. And some of those are duplicate SKUS too (Greatest Hits/best collection re-releases are counted each time). Hardly crappy backwards compatibility. There are other real valid points that warrant scrutiny on PS3.

That's the only game on the Wii that really looks bad. Everything else looks like nicer Gamecube games.

Not sure I'm following what you are trying to say. The Q? It was a Panasonic DVD player licensed to play GC games and had styling similar to a Gamecube.... And what isn't a big difference in the 360 and PS3 versions? I 'm unsure as to what you are referring to.

They aren't low res textures. And a lot of the space is taken up by audio as well. 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 sound is supported. If you have teh setups it becomes a much appreciated feature. It's INsomniac...the Raqtchet and Clank guys...they were never the leaders in pushing a system graphically. For a lauch title on a new system, I think it's a pretty good job. GOW is nice, and looks great. They are two different types of games though. Is Gears prettier? Yes. Is it better? Well, hard to say since I haven't played Resistance at length yet. I admit that I am not into FPS's as much so I might wind up still liking Gears better. BUu I hardly think R: FOM is the reason I am buying a PS3.

A DVD player is licensed technology. Nintendo is saving money on the console by not having it play DVD's out of the box. To sell a DVD player requires licensing fees. You can still have a DVD drive that won't play DVD video discs. By leaving that feature out, they don't pay anything. Cheaper build cost. Microsoft saved a boatload of cash by having the original XBox DVD remote pay the fees for them (unusable without that add on). With PS2, 360, PS3, etc...they give it to you "free".

This is actually only the second time in history that I've purchased a console at the US launch (Sega CD add on was the other)...everything else I waited for awhile. I had Saturn and Dreamcast imported a couple months after launch in Japan but that was it. PS1...nope...PS2...Xbox, PSP, 360, DS nada. I'd prob wait this launch out too...but I plan using the BD player for awhile anyways so it's a no brainer in my case.

It isn't that simple. Wii with a DVD drive that doesn't play DVD videos pays no license fees for that feature to DVD forum (Another reason Wii is profitable out the gate).

HDMI cables from www.monoprice.com Excellent quality at a very low price. I have bought over a dozen of them in various lengths and sizes. All are top notch. Personally I am ppicking up Resistance, Ridge Racer 7, and Marvel UA. Everything else I have on my Q at Gamefly of which Gundam and Call of Duty 3 are on the way
