All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
Major Focker replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
when Starcraft WoL came out, i got myself a 10m HDMI cable, plugged the VaioZ laptop to an AV receiver, which routes the sound to 5.1 speakers and the video to a 55" flatscreen. the laptop is on a small coffee table that's exactly lap height when sitting on the couch and the table surface itself extends over my lap. Razer mouse plugs into laptop (or joystick and pedals when playing Freespace), keyboard illumination on, room lights down. not too shabby for a laptop-based gaming setup i do lament though that the Vaio Z series has been discontinued. for me at least, they were the only game in town for small, slim, sexy 13" laptops with powerful CPUs and graphics- 6756 replies

not sure why the pin should bend at all. if the parts are tricky to mate in the exact position, one could make the pin holes a little loose so that there's enough play to move the parts, fill the holes with epoxy or slow curing super glue, mate and position as desired, then clamp/secure in place. for that purpose, any rigid piece of metal will do, for example, finishing nails. if it really needs to be bendable, then maybe copper tubes/rods. brass if it needs to be stiffer.

lol! they were too far back from the chokepoint. those ultras would've been siege-slaughtered before they reached open ground. and a column of retreating hellions would've done wonders to thin the ground fodder- 44 replies

forgot to add: Laserion. parts-former (jet-tank-robot) in translucent colored plastic as for figures... Claymore Theresa. they're gonna leave us with just skinny Clare? really? Madlax in a gown or at least a better sculpt than these: Erza Scarlett from Fairy Tail. not an obscure anime by any stretch, but a drought of figures. with her myriad costumes/armor, i'm surprised they aren't as numerous as One Piece figures. i'll be happy with at least just one in 1/6-1/8, even if it's in her kitten costume speaking of non-obscure anime, i have yet to see a Bleach Yoruichi figure that is both pretty and sexy. i'd go with the Kotobukiya Bishoujo treatment. just realized i don't have any dark-skinned figures yet. makes me want this even more

well i got onto the 3rd party scene just a few weeks ago (bought a not-Devastator last week) and just found out about this Voltron a few days ago. so i haven't been standing in wait long. i'm not preordering though, like i said: cautiously watching. i'm not particular who makes them, but here's my not so short list: +1 on Starfleet, but i'd rather have the X-Bomber. bonus if it comes with 3 detachable fighters that combine into a 6" Dai-X the Sol Bianca. bonus if comes with a hologram valkyrie backdrop the Bebop from, er, Cowboy Bebop. not an obscure anime, but an obscure subject for a toy or model. i want it weathered of course Sniper Helicopter Platform from the GitS movie +1 for MADOX, though i'd prefer 1/16 to be in scale with the MaK Fireball from Sentinel (which i hope will continue as a toy line) +1 on Appleseed Guges, with opening hatches and Deunan in skimpy suit, naturally. again, 1/16 or 1/20 to be in scale with the Hot Toys Landmate, or 1/24 to be in scale with the GitS Arm Suit still Appleseed, the Dropships from Ex Machina. in 1/20 so my Hot Toys figures will have something to rappel down from last for Appleseed, a Spider Gun Platform that is more than just a couple of inches tall technically not-Macross, +1 on Spartas Hovertank in 1/48 or 1/35 +1 for Venus Wars monobikes not sure if this is a Japan or US production, but i have fond memories of Mighty Orbots. probably impossible given the amount of anime magic (round bodies becoming rectangular, torso robot growing in size) now don't get me started on video game ships (cough... Homeworld)

it was also in "The International" movie starring Clive Owen, and in probably a lot more movies both recent and old. the roof of the Grand Bazaar has been a staple for cinematographers for decades. i can understand why film makers are drawn to it. the Grand Bazaar is as iconic of Istanbul as its famous mosques, and for good reason: the rooftops are an exotic landscape with a breathtaking skyline/backdrop, and something difficult to get in-frame if shooting at ground level, considering how dense Istanbul is. so asking why the Grand Bazaar roof is in a lot of films is like asking why many movies are shot in Central Park, or Grand Central Station, or in and around the Vatican, or the Eiffel Tower. it's just a shame that this movie sucked big time. tell me about it, i'm still smarting too. the other figure, Kirika, had her gun hand fingers broken at the knuckles. bought the pair almost 4 years ago and they've been in storage at my parent's house. they finally brought them to me a few months ago when they visited. for some reason, my dad thought it would be a good idea to take them out of the box and re-pack despite my specific instructions that they should remain in the box they came in. ironically, they later decided to bring more luggage after all and they ended up bringing the empty boxes anyway i'm still trying to figure out how to repair the damage... ouch. M1227664 by scroogee, on Flickr someone in another forum suggested that it may be possible to reconstruct the fingers using sculpting epoxy. i hesitate though because the fingers are so dainty, and there's very little surface area to attach to, hence some doubt whether it'll be able to hold the gun afterwards. i also have unpainted resin recast of this pair which i bought when i got hopeless that i'll ever be able to track down the originals. i'm considering whether i should chop off at the wrist and attach the whole resin hand from the recast. but what does one use to cut cold cast material without flaking off too much paint from surrounding areas? perhaps because they were emphasizing other (ehem) features?

you mean this? http://miracleproduction.com/ma01/index.html of course, i would've preferred an SOC. but having been recently impressed by 3rd party Transformers, i am cautiously watching this one.

thanks. gotta watch this anime some time.

isn't Klan 1/48? 1/5 for the ichiban kuji is a bit of an exaggeration, actually. now that i think about it, probably closer to 1/6 than 1/5, though the latest Sheryl with flag actually looks 1/7. the two biggest Sheryl's that i have are the black bunny and the geisha one which are about as tall as this Mireille figure which is labeled as 1/5: honestly, i find manufacturer stated scales to be a bit all over the place. for example, Yoko Littner is supposed to be 1/8, but she towers over all my other 1/8 figures, even substantially bigger than this LineageII Elf which is supposed to be 1/7. and elves are supposed to be tall... as for the closed eyes Choun, i indeed read that is how she fights, and is considered the rare version of that sculpt. however, i also read that she only opens her eyes when she gets serious in fighting, which is rarely. so me being uninitiated to the anime, i would consider the open eyes version to be the rare version. but that's just me. who knows what the anime fandom will consider rare and at what premium? so i just buy as i like.

Choun Shiryu, Vol.14 Comic Cover Ver., whatever that means. from the series Ikkitousen, ie. Kanu's show. i think this now my 3rd or 4th figure wearing a kimono. hmmmm..

i actually like the anime face better. but frankly, it's kinda hard to keep my eyes from wandering downwards, so i guess you could say i find the face difference a non-factor (at least for this figure). have you checked the amiami pre-owned section? pretty sure i saw this there a few weeks ago, and at massive discount.. just bought this at YAJ: i normally draw the line at 1/7, excepting only the Ichiban Kuji Macross figures which are probably 1/5, and the 2 ladies from Noir. but i really like the artistry in this sculpt, nevermind that i haven't even watched the show and don't actually know her character. also faced the predicament of which face version, closed eyes or not. in the end, 50+% price difference wasn't worth it for the closed eyes version

well, it's really just a handful of clicks (aside from typing in your username and password, and some browsers can even do that for you) if you already have an account with them. i've had a few impulse purchases at Amiami and it probably clocked in at well under a minute. you just have to be really lucky to be there in that 2-5 minute window when the preorders open. unfortunately, that luck has continued to elude me.

yeah, i always hold my breath when i receive NY packages, given the state they're in. fortunately, no damaged goods or boxes, yet. i don't mind them re-used old boxes (save the environment!) but i really hope they pay more attention to the cushioning. hopefully, more will follow HLJ's air-filled bags and shrinkwrapped-to-card base approach. uses the least material, therefore greener, lighter and cheaper.

@ Lupin to be honest i don't get how you interpreted my post as an attack on you, or that i had singled you out. have i done so in this or the other threads? or for that matter, have i attacked anyone in this forum ever, veiled or otherwise? check my post history please. because despite what you think, there are people here who agree with your point of view, and you are not alone in your frustration over the situation. so what i wrote about speculation and keeping a level head applies to all, not just you, despite what you may think. if you felt slighted, i apologize. it wasn't intended, nor do i stand to gain anything from it. but frankly, up until you started claiming you were being attacked, i found none of the earlier posts from other members were of that sort. perhaps a few were in jest, perhaps some were too veiled that i didn't pick up on it, but none of them deserved the verbal abuse they got for expressing a different point of view or for questioning what is fact or speculation. so if i may ask you nicely: desist from making accusations about me for a perceived slight.
