What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
enjoyed Golgo 13 and thought it was a classic for what it was. though he's not as easy on the eyes as some of the other animes i've mentioned watched Madlax a long time ago. i liked it but never fully grasped the latter part of the plot. also didn't understand why some people thought it was superior to Noir which i thought was far more consistent and coherent. on my 4th rewatch of Noir now, but have not rewatched Madlax, might give that a shot next. guess i was hoping there were more recent assassin anime i might have missed. as for K, i thought it had potential. it gets interesting midway, but then they rush to an ending, leaving a lot of potential concepts unexplored. it felt as if it was just a pilot season to test the waters. like they didn't have the money for a full season and so just splurged on the visuals instead. i would like to see more of female officer they call the Ice Queen. -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

so a day later i'm still thinking about Requiem for the Phantom. did some googling and it turns out the ending stirred up quite a bit of discussion. also learned that it was actually an anime adaptation of an eroge game. while that didn't strike me as a complete surprise, given the character designs and some of the scenes, i'm surprised the game was a PS2 release. i've always thought eroge were strictly PC. what also surprised me was that Phantom was a fairly recent anime yet completely flew under my radar. i ended up starting to rewatch Noir since Phantom rekindled my assassin fixation. any recommendations on recent (as in 2-3 years) assassin-related animes? already watched Canaan, El Cazador and Black Lagoon are already on my watch list. -

just finished watching Requiem for the Phantom. i am so fckd. -
try googling "star destroyer fiber optic" and you'll understand. which SG online store did they point you to? the stores i've seen carrying Alclad do not have an online store as far as i know. just ask friends or family whenever they drop into SG. heck, i'm headed for KL next week. PM me if you want to explore that option.

dremel is indispensable for a lot of things, but you need to be very careful using them on models. most of their models still have too high rpm at their lowest setting, and tend to melt plastic/resin. pin vises are for delicate work. you are far more likely to break drill bits when using rotary tools because of the higher speed and power. for that matter, always wear safety goggles when using them. the Tamiya handy router as far less speed and power than a dremel, but that is a good thing for modeling purposes. personally though, i prefer routers that can be held like a pen as they offer finer control. there are many cheap unbranded ones out there. even the branded ones (GSI Creos, Academy, Wave) tend to be cheaper than Tamiya. having said that, pistol grip routers are more comfortable when working on harder resins since you can put a bit more weight behind them. as for Alclad, just cross over to Singapore. there are a couple of stores here that carry them.

is there a way to make external SRT subtitles display on both top and bottom of the screen on a Samsung TV? eg. dialogue at the bottom, song lyrics at the top i'm streaming files from a NAS to the TV. the NAS isn't powerful enough to transcode at 720p with ASS subtitles. Samsung TVs on the other hand do not work with mkv embedded subs, hence the need for external subs in .srt, .sub, .smi, or .ttxt format i've done some googling and tried the three edits below (edits in red) 257 00:04:46,080 --> 00:04:51,110 {\pos(250,10)}juuryoku hanpirei kazan mitai ni hikaru fin 258 00:04:46,080 --> 00:04:51,110 X1:40 X2:600 Y1:20 Y2:50 Inverted gravity. Shine like a volcano. Fin. 259 00:04:51,110 --> 00:04:56,690 {\an8}kimi wa shitten no atashi no beating heart none worked. in the first one, the positioning code was displayed as part of the dialogue, and in the next two, they were completely ignored. i used MKVcleaver to extract the ASS subs and then ASS2SRT to convert. the output SRT file had all the dialogue and timings from start to finish upfront, then the lyrics in the latter part beginning with line 257. i don't know if the problem is due to the dialogue and lyrics having overlapping timings, or if it's because the media player onboard the Samsung TV only handles basic SRT. one alternative i can think of is to merge the dialogue and lyrics and just put the lyrics in quotes and one line below the dialogue. but i imagine that would be laborious, unless someone can recommend a nifty SRT editor. appreciate any help. thanks

just caught up with Psycho-pass after they took a holiday break. man, just when i thought it was rushing towards a premature ending they pull off what seems to be the start of a penultimate arc. bring it on! the BGM has also come to the fore. if you can imagine Noir and ZoE muxed with a splash of Vangelis and a hint of Homeworld. not to mention some of the best OPs and EDs i've heard in a while. amazing. i'm starting not to care if GitS:Arise will suck or not. -
ranka looks adorkable. good swap. but minmay, hate to say this, is too short to pull off that costume. she kinda looks pudgy in it.

for an instant there, what came to my mind was Sharon in a Mylene-sized costume..
-
that would be my preference. but it might be Sara Nome

thanks for the insights guys! special thanks for the pics. those swayed me to sell my MP-04 since i'm a bit of a scale freak. i didn't realize until now that the MP-04 would tower over the other MP releases and stick out like a sore thumb (good looking thumb though). i've had the MP-04 for nearly 5 years but it has stayed in the box, probably because i was scared to scratch the painted diecast just by removing it from the box i'm not particularly hung up on diecast and if anything, the less diecast content in MP-10 will mean it gets taken out of the box immediately. just a few more questions if i may: - any difference between TRU and Takara MP-10? is it crazy to prefer Takara so that all my MP's have similar boxes? - can't seem to find any price references for the clear trailer. what would be a fair price? i understand it was only available with the Optimus sleep mode, but I was able to get it separately at a weekend fair. can't remember what i paid for it though. - has there been similar clear trailers for the MP-10? i'm a sucker for clear version- 16711 replies

seeking some advice as i'm only a casual TF collector: - what is a fair price for an MIB MP-04? - i also have the clear trailer from the sleep mode version. how much does that go for these days? - which one is "correctly" sized, MP-04 or MP-10? (ie. is MP-04 correctly scaled to other TF toys, or is it oversized?). seems like MP-10 is the right size given the pics of it shaking hands with the MP Rodimus which i have. but is the MP-10 also correctly scaled to the MP Starscream (i have the ghost version), MP Soundwave, and will the recent MP Lambor fit in the MP-10 trailer? - given the choice, would you trade an MP-04 for an MP-10? thanks- 16711 replies

booty notwithstanding, the main attraction for me here is the unusual mounting of the figure to make it look like it's floating. reminds me of the Makise (Stein;s Gate) figure, which also featured gears btw. i'd love to collect these floating figures/sculptures, but they are few and far in between. hoping someone would make something similar to this: showing Hikaru's valk crashing through a foot bridge while trying to rescue a falling Minmay. one can dream, right?

damn, another insta-buy sheryl.
