What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
i couldn't take the suspense and resorted to reading the manga. just my luck, the latest chapter ended with an even more unbearable cliffhanger... i have no regrets about spoiling myself though and all i'll say now is that we're in for one helluva ride. this show is certainly not for the faint-hearted, nor those with already high stress levels -

Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) Ep.5 : OMG i believe that's the first time i've ever typed those 3 letters as word in any internet forum. ever. -
nice find! damn, if only that was the typical price for PVC figures, rather than the exception.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

i so want to be in Japan right now. good call on not watching the movie. one of the reviews i read did point out specifically that much of the movie would be lost on folks who hadn't seen the series before Marzan, yes i watched the OVA. you're right, it's really just an epilogue, but i would argue that it actually adds a lot to the overall Steins Gate experience. that has to be one of the most satisfying endings in recent memory. and that final scene, just pure class -
it's Aozaki Touko from Kara no Kyoukai. i shared some pics of her in this same thread a couple or so years ago: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=31465&page=5#entry846208 just curious, what's with Kaitendo? never heard of them before. do the have quality issues or is it more about the design/sculpt of the their releases that isn't your cup of tea?

yeah, i know what you mean. the legs really tank it. but waist up, it's all win in my book. YMMV of course. i've always wanted a figure reclining on a chaise lounge so i can display it next to this: now tell me about your childhood....
-
oops sorry she just looked so cute!
-
lol!
-
who's this girl?
-
i'm being drawn in (cough) to this figure. the sculpt, detail, setting are great but unfortunately the pose is a bit too risque for my collection. would've been insta-buy if she was just reclining on the chaise or at least a more modest leg pose. the Marie Mamiya a few posts up looks fantastic! really tempted. it's just that even if displayed fully clothed she still looks so XXX lol!

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

at first, Steins Gate was just a curiosity after one of the Makise Kurisu PVC piqued my interest. the anime summaries/descriptions i read didn't grab me though, so i forgot about it for a while. but like you, i kept running into fan praise/recommendations. and so i started watching. nearly dropped it after 6 episodes as it was one of the slowest starting animes in recent memory. it got a bit more engaging after that though as they started to experiment with their time machine and figuring out the "rules" to time travel. still, it was past midnight and i was ready to quit the show. but then halfway in the series, sh!t hits the fan and what i thought was a sedate anime turned into a roller coaster. i ended up finishing the series as the sun rose and skipped work. that weekend i did another marathon. i daresay it's been my top anime for some months now, completely unexpected since it's not the type of anime i usually like (eg. GitS, Psycho-Pass, Noir). so if you can, do give Steins Gate a chance. moving on... read a couple of reviews for the Steins Gate movie and i'm now totally amped about it.still don't know though when the BD will be released or if it will have subs.from one of those reviews i picked a recommendation for another anime: Mawaru Penguindrum. it's a quirky anime but it somehow has me hooked. got a feeling it will expand my anime horizons, similar to what Steins Gate did, and Soul Eater, Darker than Black, K-On, Nodame etc. really having fun experimenting with anime recently, and finding out that what i like is not restricted to the action/scifi/mecha genre. i've also been watching Attack on Titan. holy crap! Tochiro's right, titans are truly loathable. they trigger a lot of primal fears and the producers masterfully convey this on screen. can't wait for payback. -

then you might want to watch this space: http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/auc-terraformer/item/4535123814624/ you might have to go through a proxy service which will add fees and some additional shipping, but it'll likely still end up less than double SRP. or this: http://www.anime-export.com/product/13934 which is double SRP, but at least not triple or quadruple. pick your poison.

how does one cancel a preorder at Hobbyfan? just drop them an email? if the preorder was done with a credit card, will there be a penalty charge for cancelling? i seem to recall reading something to that effect on their site, but i also recall someone posting here an email response from Hobbyfan saying cancellations are ok and without penalty.

having an "open order" reflected in your account page simply means you got your order in. whether you've secured stock depends on a number of things. if you have a paypal billing agreement in place or using a credit card, then as soon as stock is available to allocate to open orders then one will be reserved for you until they get around to automatically billing paypal or your card. if you're using paypal but without a billing agreement, then there's a chance you might not get any since available stocks are allocated to all open orders (not just yours) and is only reserved for you until it is paid. so if you receive the manual invoice and are not able to act on it immediately, you might lose out if others are able to pay before you. so to be sure, use a credit card or setup a billing agreement, which anyway can be easily cancelled and setup again at anytime. HLJ sells at SRP less their supplier discount which they pass on to customers (usually 5-20%). the creeping price could be automatic price adjustments in their system eg. they'll extend maximum discount until it reaches low stock status and a lower discount is applied, then maybe an even lower discount when it's down to last few pieces. mind, that's just my theory. i've personally not seen it on HLJ, but i see it a lot on Amiami. the SRP for Yuki is JPY7000, so HLJ is not really undercutting the price beyond the usual discounts. it's more likely that the other vendors you saw are scalping.

i didn't mean to say that higher priced figures don't appreciate in value. in fact, they are liable to reach even more absurd prices later on, and i can relate to your experiences of paying double (or more). but between an $80 figure dropping to $60, and a $150 figure dropping to $130, i've seen more of the latter. the thing is, once the initial excess supply (hence the markdown to $130) is depleted, then all bets are off. you see this often with HLJ. they would have a MegaHouse or GSC sale which would include some slow-moving figures (presumably because it was overpriced at release) get a nice enough discount. after that sale and when the usual webstores have runout, then the higher priced figures would command an even higher markup on ebay and YAJ than the average priced figures. in your example, the $150 is likely to fetch $300 (or more), the $80 might go up to $120 or $130 (except of course some really hot/rare items). same as you, i buy figures regardless if i know the character or not, and base my decision on the merits of its sculpt, paint application, pose etc. when i do know the character (and that is not quite often as far as my collection goes) then i do consider whether the figure is representative, rather than focus on accuracy. in Yamamoto's case, it's true that the figure has enhanced some of her proportions and therefore is not technically accurate to the anime. it might not also be in-character for her to be striking that pose and dropping that zipper. but to me, Yamamoto is a kick-ass babe, and that figure gives a kick-ass impression, ergo, insta-buy! anyway, just saw HLJ has now listed Yuki as discontinued. hope some of you guys managed to get yours.

don't wait too long to decide, or you might be in another Yuki situation. worst case, you can sell it, possibly at a profit. i take it you don't collect a lot of PVCs? i learned the hard way that the best time to buy is on first release, and that selling an impulse buy is far easier than tracking down something i passed on. sub-$100 figures rarely get any cheaper, particularly if its from the likes of GSC, MH, or Alter. if anything, it's the ones with a higher release price that might be marked down later. edit: as i was writing this, i got invoiced by HLJ for my Yuki preorder. so if they had any excess stock at all, it'll probably be in the next few hours when they might lift "Order Stop".

i want Melda! stumbled on this while googling who Celestia was. turns out she goes by Celestella these days. anyway, edit: just to clarify, i meant Melda in her flight suit, not the version on the exam table, though i wouldn't mind that too

don't get too worked up about it. i've been reading that thread in the other forum and it didn't strike me that folks were siding with the other guy. there was just one "thanks" in response to his post, and it's not even clear if that was intended for him "clarifying" the 1/500 providence or if it were for the link to ourstarblazers that he provided. likely the latter. you've documented your argument well and that should suffice. if it doesn't, well, there are other more interesting things to occupy one's mind. like if the Yamato girls will be part of the Beach Queens line

which unfortunately means it's also a bit more expensive than most. but heck, i'm not complaining. honestly, i find the price cheap for what it offers. i'm just so happy it's 1/7. should look ok with the Banpresto Sheryl's, even if the figure itself will be a bit smaller in comparison. for a while i was afraid Max Factory would make the same mistake they had with the Hatsune Miku VN02, which would've been a fantastic display piece but the figure itself was just too small at 1/8. to this day, i haven't taken it out of the box and considered selling it several times.

i hope my local Kinokuniya still has them by the time i return from my trip. on another note, my Yamato stash is on its way from Amiami. first time i've had to pay more than 5k yen for shipping. i guess it's going to be a rather big box. i also just realized that i had doubles of Yamamoto's Zero. oh well, i guess one of them will be a test bed for Alclad.
