christmas is still 6 months away and i already know it's going to be expensive on an OT note, have you guys ever had your car model tires stick to the surface they're resting on? i have a few F1 models where the tires seem to have melted the plastic base they were in contact with, and a few on laminated wood shelves (think Ikea) where they left some residue. i'm thinking it's a plastic to plastic reaction (the laminate is still a plastic, i think). so would placing them on glass shelves prevent this?

you're right. i forgot about it. not deploying the Falcons in the recent engagements is quite understandable given what they were up against. outside of the protection of the shield, they would've been swatted like flies. the layering and foreshadowing are truly well done and make re-watching past episodes a rewarding experience.

lol! that could work kidding aside, i thought this recent use of the wave motion gun was a good demonstration of tactics rather than a wipe 'em all out secret weapon cop out. i doubt if the WMG would've made any difference without that brilliant tactic. i'm now wondering though what's the techno mumbo-jumbo for how the gravity anchors work. started re-watching vol4 and pleasantly surprised that a number of clues were present to foreshadow events in vol5. a knowing look here, a discreet report there... really curious who Dessler was talking to on the hotline. now i think i need to re-watch Melda's exam and the onsen scene a few more times just in case i missed some clues

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
the first time around, i dropped Shikabane Hime after just a couple of episodes. for some reason the dual uzis turned me off. at the time it seemed pedestrian to put holes in monsters after just seeing the hack and slash of Claymore. this time i saw it through to sate my seemingly periodic craving for girls with guns. it wasn't great but not bad either. the premise was interesting enough but unfortunately it was inconsistently fleshed out. at times the writers seemed to be rewriting the rules as they go. overall, i liked it enough to watch both seasons over the course of a week. but then, man, that ending! i don't think i've ever watched anything, anime or otherwise, that ended as abruptly as Shikabane Hime did. -
you're seriously not taking my remark at face value, right? i was merely being tongue in cheek (see my avatar), and poking fun at the shipping wars that did happen here, albeit less protracted than in other forums. rules starts with "R" and sucks with "S", and so for Ranka and Sheryl respectively. nothing more to it. those shipping debates were crazy times. despite being a Sheryl fan, i found the Ranka hate back then just utterly baffling

thanks for the suggestions, guys. i was initially only thinking of sports cars, but now i think including including normal cars would be fun too. i also haven't thought of bikes at all, but this one is now on top of my want list: might be difficult to find it in 1/18 scale though, much less diecast. so i might have to relax those collection rules a bit. among those mentioned above, these piqued my interest and hope to track them down: and while googling your suggestions, i also came across these: this one came up while looking for Lupin's SSK, but not sure if it was actually in the anime as well:

i couldn't find any anime car threads so just leaving this here: 3 different sources and they arrived the same day these will be the first of my new collection of "iconic" cars featured in anime. i already have an F40 which showed up in more than one anime but haven't decided whether i should display it with these guys or with the rest of the Ferraris. the top one is rather obscure. i wonder who here can recognize it. the middle is a dead give away. the bottom should be familiar to members here. it'll take a bit of work to make it anime accurate. this one is still in transit, and will take the most work (full body repaint): any other nominations for this collection?

next thing you know, they'd be crowd-funding the next macross series to monetize that concept... Ranka rules! Sheryl sucks!

which manufacturers made that bike, and which one featured lights, as in kicker's pics? i seem to recall there were several releases/versions but never paid attention back then -
Music variety (or lack thereof) in Frontier
Major Focker replied to Saruta's topic in Movies and TV Series
perhaps Yuki Kajiura is not the best reference to use to make your point. I love her work in Noir, Madlax, KnK, but if someone where to make a compilation album with songs from these three titles, the uninformed listener would easily think that all the songs came from one anime. In MF, if the BGM are considered as part of that musical body of work, i find there is actually more variety. -
i'll chip in

it's really a shame that the franchises' legal troubles coincided with Dalton's tenure. from what i heard, the treatment for his 3rd movie was actually pretty far along. i can understand Dalton being daunted to take on Bond immediately after Connery and being only 25 years old, but it's just tragic that when he felt ready to do For Your Eyes Only, Moore decides to exercise his contractual option to extend his tenure. i grew up on Moore's Bond and at one point thought Moonraker was the best ever (in my defense, i was but a kid), and fell asleep when my Dad was watching Connery. It was Dalton's Living Daylights which made me re-watch and appreciate the Connery films, and from there, started reading the Fleming novels.

i've only started surfing for Penguindrum discussions and indeed Utena frequently pops up. i will certainly put Utena on my watch queue, but not immediately. if indeed both are similar, i'm afraid watching them within a short time span will make my head explode -

how can a show featuring chibi penguins, doing cutesy (and often hilarious) stuff, have really messed up characters alongside; turn out to be an intense psych thriller drama; be loaded with symbolism and metaphor; offer serious contemplation on society, the nature of family, abandonment of children, sin, punishment, sacrifice, redemption, fate and destiny? having just finished Mawaru Penguindrum, i'm still trying to figure out how it managed to deliver all that and more. the feeling is similar to reading one of Haruki Murakami's novels, where the surreal (or reality, depending one's perspective) is just skin deep, and one is left awash with myriad thoughts tangled with emotions in often surprising and unexpected ways. i know that's still quite vague, but it's really hard to describe. beautifully animated with art style is similar to Bakemonogatari and the musical score is reminiscent of Gattaca. it's hard to recommend though, as it'll likely frustrate many due to it's dense and often obtuse way of storytelling. if you're up for it, then you might appreciate one of the most thought provoking anime in recent memory. -

good luck trying to not to be spoiled. i miserably failed the marshmallow test on this one. the anime didn't necessarily create new material to enrich the story. most of the stuff in the current anime episodes that are not in the first volume of manga are actually covered in later volumes. i think they did well to reorder some of the manga chapters for the anime adaptation. makes the story flow better, and as you say, enriched. the manga is right now at a sort of interlude. so it's not as excruciating to wait for next month's installment. but i suspect this interlude will be brief and things will start to get crazy again. -
if you happen to find 2 of them, let me know. if you happen to find just one, don't even think of mentioning it i'd be so envious
