were those 1/144 model kits or the Chara-works trading figures? come to think of it, i don't recall any macross 1/144 kits except those in M7 and limited run resin kits.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
thanks. i read though that above trailer has been around since late 2011, followed by a couple of announcements that it is being delayed. so understandably, the fandom is antsy. i've been rewatching bits of Nise to get my Shinobu fix, and i realize that though my favorite remains to be Steins Gate, Bake/Nise/Neko has much more replay value. it's probably because of the story arc breakdown which allows one to conveniently just rewatch a specific arc, rather than committing to another long marathon. -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

eh? yet again i am behind on the anime news. i've read some stuff that Kizu was announced for late 2013 but that people were doubting it because Shaft would be too busy with the current series and a Madoka movie, or something like that. so if the movie has indeed been made already, how could it be so troublesome for them to release it sooner? i ended up spending the day reading the Kizu novel. damn, now i'm craving for it even more... -

i can't believe Monogatari snuck up on me, but very happy it's back. as i understand it, this latest series will be 20-something eps. i wonder if it will also cover Kizumonogatari. i want more Shinobu! i really miss Senjougahara's long hair, but the shower scene make up for it i wish the producers would come up with a version where the filler frames last just a split second longer. i doubt doing so will mess with the pace of the dialogue and i keep thinking that i'm missing some potentially rich material because those frames just go by so fast. leaves me wondering if japanese readers are speed readers. or maybe they're just subliminal frames that causes one to be hopelessly addicted to Monogatari i guess that would apply to me since i loved any and all of the stuff they've come up with, including Nise. i can appreciate though why some folks thought it went a bit too far. me, i just thought it was hilarious, plus it had a lot more Shinobu. but seriously though, as much as i love Senjougahara, i think it's the Shinobu/Kiss Shot x Araragi dynamic which is potentially an emotional minefield. hopefully, future eps will play that out. don't really like the new Titan OP, but maybe it'll grow on me. I like Levi though coz he's badass. finished watching Another and really enjoyed it's creepiness. it might have had something to do with the gloomy weather outside while i was watching it, but i think some episodes are strong enough that it'll spook you even if you were watching it on a sun drenched beach. -
thanks for the info! i wish there was some way to pre-order or directly order from him.

nice Vifam. i think i'll pick that up too. i saw in one of the anime figure blogs a tank with a few SD style school girls having tea/picnic on it. i want to buy that set but can't find it. not sure if it's a GK. i'll try to find a pic. edit: found it http://www.nekomagic.com/?p=40540 anyone know where to buy? or perhaps what search term to use on yahoo auctions?

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
thanks for bringing this up. i've been wanting to watch this but for the life of me i couldn't recall the title, just that it was a long-winded one (but now in hindsight, it's actually not that long). i've seen just a few episodes from many years ago before it stopped airing. i remember it being very moody and it made quite an impression on me. just finished Durarara and loved it. the story is just above average, but the way it was told was just exceptional. the storytelling was varied and interesting, and in a few episodes almost experimental. it reminded me a bit of a Japanese short film anthology (JAM Films) where the different styles made the overall experience enjoyable. the characters were well crafted; Shizou and how people react to him was so funny, and Celty was just adorable. and to think that they are the side characters. real shame that it didn't get a second season. i'm sure it would've been fantastic. -
well, one can hope. i think though that what would keep Bandai from doing it would either be pricing/margin or they're reserving it for a 1/350 renewal, rather than technical feasibility. the Tomy Yamato i linked to was a mass-produced run. aside from the motors and electronics for the turrets it also had motors for the rotating radar tower, different sound effects for the main and secondary guns and horns, and several drive motors and wheels for locomotion. all that in half a hull (ie. waterline). granted it didn't have a wave motion gun, but that's just a few leds and chips. but anyway, who am i kidding? i'll probably end up getting this new Yamato regardless.

i'm not complaining about the detail in the new Yamato. what i meant to say was, that Tomy was able to make 1/700 turrets RC movable despite their tiny size, so Bandai should be able to do the same with the presumably bigger (and more detailed) turrets in the new Yamato toy. that is, if they choose to do it. at 27k yen, i'm hoping they would. heck, i'm willing to pay even more for that.

thanks Kyp, for the details. i'm still on the fence, though this has me intrigued "The ring itself is made of metal, and features the same action as in the anime. Additionally, the exit and re-entry hatch opens, and has a working launch catapult for the Cosmo Falcons." if the ring and platforms rotate, that might just tip me to buy. given the scale, probably too much to expect that the fighters actually slide from platform to launch position, but maybe they'll be using magnets to pull it off. also wonder if they actually meant "working launch catapult" for the zeros rather than the falcons. i really want RC turrets and was hoping for a combination of the best of the 1/350 and the GX in 1/500-1/700 scale. i got this a few months ago for about 16k yen, which shows that RC turrets are possible at 1/700 scale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=90-RrlaYhDQ#t=18s so those turrets are even smaller than what's on the GX-57 which is at 1/625 IIRC.

have they announced what the gimmicks this new one will have? i already have the BPX-01 and GX-57 so the cosmo falcon launch bay alone won't be enough to make me buy. on the other hand, if it will have RC turrets similar to the 1/350, then that's insta-buy for me.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Major Focker replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
i never really understood what the gun straps were for. do robots get tired from the weight of the gun? i can understand there may be cases both hands need to be free and the gun has to be stowed. but on a mechanical soldier, one would think it would be simpler to just mount the gun either mechanically or magnetically to either the forearms, back, or somewhere. -
just to add, the PW system displays shipping cost in real time, so you can play around with different item combinations to make up your shipment. about half the time, it is cheaper for me to split my stuff into 2 shipments instead of 1 big box, eg. everything in one shipment is 5k yen, may be split into 2 costing about 2k yen each. this usually happens when you have 1 item that is particularly long or wide compared to the other stuff. also noticed in a couple of cases that when i put the small items first into the shipping column, and the bigger ones later, it tends to calculate about 500-1k yen higher shipping than if i go first with the big items and top-up with the small ones. odd but true, at least in a few cases. lol, yeah. went away for a couple of weeks to escape the haze. back on topic, anyone know the cancellation policy of cdjapan? the only thing i got from their site is that if i used paypal i need to drop them an email and they will do a manual full or partial refund. but i couldn't find any info on what conditions they would only do a partial refund. really like the gunpod color on this one. might order another and sell it later without the gunpod or swapped with a purple one. with buyer's consent of course. or maybe someone here will be willing to sell me their gunpod/s? am i crazy?

sounds like we're in the same country what i do is to place separate pre-orders for stuff coming out in different months so end up with different order "buckets" that i can build up on. if a preorder comes up for a month where i already have a bucket, i still place it as a separate order. much easier to just combine them later on rather than have to ask for split. also, i now try not to push it too close to the tax-free limit. if an order is already 20k yen, i have it shipped even if the tax limit is more like 30k yen. part of the reason i do this is because once your order gets to a certain size, the box they use jumps up a notch and shipping suddenly goes from 3k yen to 5k+. that quickly evaporates their discount advantage with HLJ. so now i only order compact, expensive stuff from Amiami, and the bulky stuff with HLJ as their shipping discounts basically puts them on the level with Amiami pricing. i've cancelled a few items with Amiami without issue. though of course i would get that email "please consider future purchases more carefully..." which i think is just fair because they do state up front that they have a no cancellation policy. sure it sucks, but it's not like they're out there to screw people. but they've really got to do something about their packaging. another 6kg order arrived yesterday and 2.5kg of it is the huge box and paper filler. i can easily imagine HLJ using a box half the size and those lovely air-filled bags. so yeah, that's the last bulky order from Amiami. only medium sized orders from hereon.

was pleasantly surprised that i didn't need to create an account with cdjapan. i just clicked on the "checkout w/ paypal" button and it took me straight to the paypal login page and after that, just clickety-clicked with my default address and shipping options. pretty nifty and quick checkout process i must say.

settled for cdjapan. they still have 4 left. what's their cancellation policy? any penalty or time limit?

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
well, i've been living under a rock, at least with respect to Oreimo. so the OVA is news to me. the first season ended with a complete story, even without the OVA. even if i knew S2 was going to get an OVA, i guess i would've also expected at least something similar. loved the S1 OVA, so really looking forward to the next one. and.... typical me being slow on the news, when was the GL BD released? gotta score myself a set. -

Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
oh, so there's going to be an Oreimo 2 OVA. i wanted to cry tears of frustration because that season ender felt disjointed from the buildup of the past few episodes. on its own, it was a good episode, but halfway through i was really getting concerned how they were going to resolve the series. i initially feared an open ending, but this was worse, it felt like it completely ignored that fact that it was a last episode and that there were stuff it was supposed to be resolving, or at least acknowledging. but with an OVA coming it now makes sense, but still, couldn't they have done at least a partial closure rather than full-on backstory? Attack on Titan though almost made me cry man-tears. really great musical score. -
WTF. so it's basically cancelled then. i'm too pissed to cry.

well, not really. but from several angles it does look cross-eyed, or at least what i think they call lazy-eye. judge for yourself: i think they were going for a coy, come-hither look but then went off tangent somewhere. in this pic it actually looks pretty decent so i even thought of re-buying one, thinking that i may have gotten a fluke paint job. but when i checked several local stores in person, they all looked like the one i sold. for similar reasons i also sold off catwoman because the eyes looked so different from the prototype. in that case, from smoky to beady-eyed, lol! i also read that this new psylocke is now 1/7 (my perfect scale for figs) compared to the 1/8 v1. i don't know how many and which other figs in this line have also come out in 1/7, but supposedly koto has decided that this line will now be 1/7 for 2013 releases and onwards. i think it's a good move because it's really tough to get the eyes right in 1/8 unless portrayed in the typical big-eyed anime style. rumor has it that some of the earlier figs might get re-released in 1/7 either as a straight upsize, but i think/hope more likely as new sculpts such as with this psylocke fig. keeping my fingers crossed they revisit catwoman.

damn! glad i sold my cross-eyed v1 psylocke
