What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

it's so zany that it's probably more apt to call it pervy-parody. i was laughing so hard and it was so hyper kinetic it nearly blew my brains out. -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
i guess i'm just desensitized already since a number of animes have those, and some are good notwithstanding. so it didn't bother me while watching SAO season 2 and despite those SAO might have made it to my top faves list if only S2 had the same narrative strengths as S1 and if the overall S2 story was a little more sophisticated than just go and rescue the damsel in distress. -
OT, but can you please elaborate just a little?

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

indeed, the 1st season of SAO was excellent. the 2nd season was ok but completely overshadowed by the first. the 1st season had quite a variety of stories and they were purposeful. rather than just explaining the mechanics of the game world through dialogue they crafted episodes that showed the dynamics and implications of those game rules. and i appreciated the deliberateness the writers took to integrate many different game elements into the story, things like player killing, safe zones, levelling up, farming/teabagging, weapon upgrade/crafting, as well as bits of social commentary and human behaviour/dynamics. in the course of these episodes they introduced various characters that managed to be memorable despite their short air time, and more importantly, gave a sense that the world was populated and alive. this i think is mainly where the 2nd season fell short. they practically stopped with the world building and what little they did had almost inconsequential impact to the story. the episodes were so single-mindedly focused on advancing the plot that the story could've been transplanted to a different world/setting and no one would be the wiser. they did well with addition of another major character who was interesting and gave some emotional complexity to the story, but unfortunately a previous major character, while remaining central, was then reduced to a nearly passive role. the new minor characters paled in comparison to their counterparts in the 1st season and where pretty much like cardboard NPCs who just moved the story along. overall, SAO is still highly recommendable. the visuals were great and the soundtrack pretty compelling. -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

first half of Stella Women's Academy was fun. it's like K-On! with guns, and of course tea. though it falls short of K-On! it was enjoyable for end of the work day, laid back watching. episode 4 was notable for hinting at a meta-fantasy angle and was a good bit of story telling. but in the second half, the main character went all angst-y and was annoying as hell. moe and emo just don't hang well together even if they share the same letters. the meta-fantasy element in episode 4 was also never developed. in fact the writers seem to have forgotten about it until near the end of the series. quite a shame as it might have actually set this anime apart. fortunately the last 2 episodes was full-on fun again with some really hilarious moments. still, it's hard to recommend this one except to airsoft afficionados. -

thanks for the detailed info MJ. i've hesitated about weathering my toys thinking that i'd have to disassemble first lest clear coats muck up the joints. but your work is so inspiring it makes it hard not to give it a go.

well, it's not exactly a flea market. it's actually a little mall with about a dozen toy stores (folks in Singapore should be familiar with it). on sundays, they put out tables in front of the shops and people rent them to sell antiques/bric-a-bracs (coins, stamps, vases, vintage typewriters etc.), old cds/records, comics, small gadgets, and of course toys. lots of them coming out of closets or storage, from old GI joes, matchboxes to the more recent transformers and PVC figure releases. i think it was about a year ago when there was a guy there with a pile of VE-1's and VT-1s (3 each, all v2) and was selling them for like $75 each and offered me a pair (VE-1 and VT-1) for $120. i was thinking the price was too good and that they might be knock-offs, so i minimized my risk and only got the VE-1. i posted pics of it on MW and folks confirmed it was legit. the following weekend though, the guy was gone and no more cheap valks in sight. one of my biggest regrets to this day

thanks for the suggestions. they looked positively gleaming in the last one. yup, i've been living on an island (pun intended). never heard of them before. i only hit youtube to follow links, and i don't do facebook.

my laptop almost fried because of drool. great work MJ! noob question: when you say full gloss (or clear) coat, do you take apart the pieces and spray each? or do you spray the whole thing in one go? and if so, do you mask certain areas? i'm wondering about whether the coat gets into the spaces between mating pieces that are supposed to move.

i'm not so bothered with the recap episodes. i think it's simply due to the material they have to work with. for the second season they had 6 novels, and they decided to do just 5, and with good reason: Hanamonogatari is chronologically much later in the timeline and showing it ahead of the season 3 stories will likely diminish some of the latter's suspense or drama elements. i can only guess that Hana was published at a time when they thought that was it for the entire series. So they've announced Hana will have its own standalone series in 2014, but as i said previously, do not look into Hana unless you want to be spoiled. so with 5 novels, they could do 5 eps each for a full 25 ep season. but 5 eps is probably too long for some of the story arcs. so far only 3 arcs have gone beyond 4 eps: Tsubasa Cat, Karen Bee, Tsubasa Tiger. Tsubasa Cat is 5 eps but technically just 4 because one of the eps (S01E12) is actually unrelated. Karen Bee at 7 eps really felt too long, probably doable in 5, but six eps max. Tsubasa Tiger at 5 eps felt about right, but i could still argue the first ep was more of like a "welcome to the new season" kind of episode. so 4 eps per arc seems to be the right balance, but that would only be 20 eps for the season. perhaps 2-3 arcs would merit 5 eps and the rest at 4 eps each. but that would still just be 22-23 eps total. ergo, add 2-3 recap episodes to round up to 25. considering that Bake was from back in 2009, Nise from early 2012 and NekoKuro was aired chronologically out of order, i think the now sequential recaps actually helps. i'd rather have them than overly drawn out narratives. so my bet is that Shinobu Time will have 4 eps and the last arc at 5, unless they do a filler beach episode like so many animes theses days..

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Major Focker replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
that's also what i'm afraid of. the way the story is set up right now, it seems the protagonist will have to go through each of the underlings to reach the end boss. -
after watching the recap, i brushed up on previous episodes by looking at wiki summaries. at the end it listed episode 17: Shinobu Time, Part One. really looking forward to that. i'm not even going to try to stay away for 3 weeks before watching. ironically, now that i've decided that, i'll actually be in 3 countries over the next 4 weeks. guess i'll have to insist on being home every weekend. i'm wondering what the next recap episode will be. a recap of the current season? or (gasp!) a Kizu preview?

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

they sure turned up the perv dial to 11 and completely overshot hentai territory and landed instead into awesome-land. i'm actually starting to worry that they might lose steam and wondering if this is a short or long series. the soundtrack is reminiscent of Attack on Titan. -
