  1. i had an inkling getting that Ultimetal Optimus would come back to bite me. now i have to sell my MAS-01 and MAS-02 so the Ultimetals will be my definitive display pair
  2. is it just me, or does that power loader have SD proportions? like it for that though.
  3. re-watching Kekkai Sensen, this time without the long pauses that plagued the original broadcast. this show is crazy fun and has a killer soundtrack. i looked up the ED and the male singer is not what i pictured. and it's crazy awesome!
  4. thanks. in for one when shipping normalizes a bit
  5. i liked it. the story's pretty good and the social commentary hits home (devaluation, social media mob trials, proxy wars). i agree it's not written episodically, and i can imagine how jarring some of the abrupt episode endings would be if the show was aired on weekly basis. i watched it on Netflix so that wasn't an issue, and other than 2 or 3 break spots, it seems to have been formatted for binge watching. i grew to appreciate the continuity of one episode's ending straight onto the next. in fact i would argue that in a number of shows (anime or TV) quite a bit of screen time is wasted in setting up the "hook" for the next episode, sometimes artificially (or prematurely) raising the suspense at the expense of the story's flow. for sure this is almost a necessity (or at least an expectation) for weekly shows, but it is not necessary in a platform like Netflix where multi episode dumps are increasingly the norm. i enjoyed the Appleseed movies so you could say i'm not CG averse. i did almost drop Ajin after the first episode because of the CG, picking it up again month's later, and was immensely satisfied with the story. so, no, CG didn't kill SAC2045 for me. plus, this Motoko's got a cute butt.
  6. is this for the Sentinel release?
  7. caught up to ep11 of Railgun T. not sure i want to watch 12 yet after reading what a cliffhanger it is. if not for the Sisters Arc in S, i think T would've already been my favorite of the Raildex franchise. let's see what the 2nd cour brings. anyway, since ep10 bled into the ED, i realized i've been skipping it entirely (there were some very memorable BGMs in Raildex, but i wasn't a fan of the OPs and EDs) so i looked it up on Youtube for a proper listen this time. and it was great! it reminded me of Fuuka, but as i let Youtube continue to play on, i recognized another track by the same band. it was an OP from Gate, also a favorite of mine from back then. i ended up sound-tripping on Youtube for nearly 3 hours just clicking what caught my eye or letting it play on as i cooked. somehow in Youtube's algorithm it brought up long-time favorite Shiki no Uta (Samurai Champloo), an english version at that, and by the same artist a decade later. it was ok, though the original japanese had a superior cadence owing to the more syllabic nature of the language. craving for the classic, i keyed in Shiki no Uta and let Youtube take me wherever. the likes of Daoko, Anly, Lisa, iri, kudasai, Mondo Grosso, Kavka, etc. popped up; all previously not on my radar. needless to say it made for a chill lo-fi Sunday dinner and then some.
  8. not from Aliens. made by Yamato during the time they were locked out of Macross Frontier https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10078924
  9. i no longer have a Detolf but i recall it was my first option before ultimately deciding to place it in a BESTA cabinet. i think i did manage to squeeze it in the Detolf, nearly breaking off the antenna in the process. it was only possible to display sideways, which i found boring, and the APC just barely peeking underneath. i tried diagonally, but the tail fins would then clip the Detolf corners, so you would have to move it forward, again not leaving enough room for the APC and the antenna dangerously close to the front door. here's something a bit smaller that can fit inside a Detolf: this 1/18 APC fits too: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/46757 unfortunately mine got stuck in the US when the quarantine hit.
  10. wow, you guys made me reminisce. i posted this photo April 2010 in this forum. geez, where did that decade go? i think i have the black stored somewhere, but the one shown above is the weathering version. not sure if that's a 5th version or one of the 4 earlier mentioned. i also vaguely recall it might not be Aoshima but another company that starts with a "T", which if memory serves, predates Aoshima, at least with regard to producing a diecast dropship. the Airwolf was really cool. about the only additional thing i wish it had was a gimmick that ejected sunbursts (not sure if that was the in-show term for flares)
  11. if they did this for the Starcraft Terran Battlecruiser or the Pride of Hiigara from Homeworld, i'll be all over it.
  12. where can i get those yellow truck models? can't wait for HW3! meantime, i'll start on Deserts of Kharak. i've been putting it off for fear of disappointment
  13. i think it was sometime last year when Paypal defaulted to their own conversion despite my settings. since then, i've been careful to manually change the conversion to that of my bank. however late last year, whenever i changed the conversion to use my bank's rate, it would result in an payment processing error/failure with Paypal stating that my card was declined. but when i check out directly with the seller, say amiami or HS, the transaction goes through just fine. i also confirmed with my bank that there wasn't any declined payments. earlier this year i did some experiments. when i changed away from Paypal conversion, the payment failed as expected. right after, i restart the payment process and leave it at Paypal default conversion. sure enough, the payment goes through. i've confirmed this behaviour with amiami, HS, HLJ, eBay, and Amazon. i would think there's something criminal in Paypal's behaviour.
  14. Promare = Gurren La Kill Trigger has done it again!
  15. Neuromancer was what got me into reading lots of cyberpunk but what really stayed with me was the world of Budayeen (When Gravity Fails/ A Fire in the Sun/ The Exile Kiss by George Alec Effinger). sadly, it'll likely never be a movie. the PC game Bladerunner just recently became available on GOG. so no need to mess with CDs anymore.
  16. may i take you up on that offer? will PM you in a bit
  17. i caved and finally got a 1J at a local store for $450 the store owner happened to be there while i was browsing so i tried to go for a discount. he countered saying it was a first release edition that comes with a stand. was there even a 2nd release sans stand? and cheaper? about to walk away, he mentioned buying online would entail $30-40 shipping and about $80 in import taxes. sounded about right. so the apples to apples price (vs. a web purchase) was now $330. still, there was a chance i could've avoided taxes; so back to $410 comparable price. seeing i was unconvinced, he threw in the missile set. quick check on webstores pegs it at $110-130. but i already have a missile set which i bought for $50, intended for the VF-1S. anyway, i took his offer. so in the best case, that VF-1J was effectively just $200, and in the worst case $360. still unsure whether it was a good deal or not. as you can tell, i'm still trying to rationalize my purchase...
