  1. Major Focker

    Macross figures

if only it was just a tad bigger... i have to put it on a separate shelf as my other figures dwarf it
  2. d'oh! completely forgot about TFH. thanks for reminding me. sadly, preorders have now closed. but at least i now know who to bug.
  3. i guess value is in the eye of the beholder. personally, i think they're a steal at that price. certainly more value than some of the PVC figures i collect at that price range. or think about an MP-10 sized transforming toy and paying someone to weather and customize it. that'll easily be more expensive. i saw these at a toycon several months back and would've bought them on impulse if they had any available then. the paintjob is fantastic and the weathering has texture. perhaps since these transform, the immediate price comparison is with Hasbro or Takara. but these are limited run, high end collectibles and perhaps the more appropriate comparison is with companies like 3A or Hot Toys. btw, does anyone know any local stores/distributors in Singapore who carry these? i never did manage to find out after the toycon. i think the scale is close enough that they will display well alongside my 1/20 MaK collection, particularly the SAFS by Sentinel.
  4. so what's the cheapest you guys have seen? 16k yen?
  5. holy $@#&! i didn't think a Noir BD was really going to happen, and this soon! does it have Eng subs? and where did you buy yours? i'm going to get it regardless, just to pay homage to one of the few series i have re-watched more than thrice. i'm game for any new figures, fixed or posable, though i must say, my Mireille and Kirika figures by Yamato are going to be a tough act to follow.
  6. thanks. has anyone done a comparison of the video quality of this remaster vs. the original BD release?
  7. so other than the extras, were there additions/edits/enhancements to the episodes themselves? is the remastering a noticeable improvement over the previous release? and lastly, what's the difference between the Deculture and Yack Deculture versions of ep1? thanks
  8. ugh, i'm so behind on anime these days. i've been missing KnK and Log Horizon. fortunately, i've managed to squeeze some time for Space Dandy. i like it. episode 5 shows a different facet, and might change minds of people who've been dissing it.
  9. yup, pics were from that site. in one of his later Yamato update reports, he also mentioned this: Star Blazers 2199 was also the first topic to come up on the Nico Nico simulcast that accompanied Episode 14. The YamatoGirls held up a sign commemorating Star Blazers 2199‘s journey overseas, and to forgive any annoyance over incoming comments from foreign countries. (Gee, thanks a lot, Japan.) i can imagine he was one of those who commented in english fortunately, folks like Tim and you continue to provide a great service to the english speaking community. many thanks. would love to catch a livecast someday, but lately my schedule hardly allows it. was in Tokyo last November and stayed in Shinjuku. will drop you a pm next time. planning to catch the sakura season, if not this March, then next year for sure.
  10. thanks man! that Gatlantis disco routine was hilarious and those Pocky sticks are truly gigantic!
  11. anyone know where/how i can watch these webcasts: specifically, webcast #31 aired Dec15. can't seem to find my way around niconico. i think these are different from the starblazers news video on youtube.
  12. agree on Ex Machina though i do have partiality for the 2004 movie because of the spider tanks. while i don't mind another reboot, i really wish they would move on. in the manga i enjoyed the latter books a bit more because they were less Olympus-centric and mentioned conspiracies happening elsewhere in the world. i do look forward to more scenes in the badlands, but ESWAT action in Poseidon (or Republic of Munma, or Paris, or Imperial Americana) would be fantastic.
  13. yes, they're painted. very well, i might add. the bare kits do not have a metallic sheen. indeed, blinking hazard lights would've been great. looking forward to your mod =)
  14. IIRC, Yamato 2199 is 333m, so 6.5 inches is ~1:2000. the lucky ones who have the HDP SDF-1 can have it displayed alongside... or replace one of the ARMDs it looks really nice and much more practical for fleet displays, but i already have too much invested in the 1:1000 line so i guess i'll be sticking with that
  15. i normally prefer 1/7 or 1/8, but the diorama possibilities are tempting me to go smaller
  16. i was on the fence for the longest time since i already had the BPX-01 and GX-57. i haven't been on the boards lately, but glad i dropped by when i did and ordered myself a GX-64 -- just in the nick of time it seems. i'll see it in a couple of weeks. i already got a handful of these: thinking of joining 2 bases together and having custom acrylic panels for the front and back. i've been holding out for a horizontal version of this case but when their 3rd release turned out to still be vertical, i guess it'll be a long wait.
  17. late to the party, and all i can say is WOW
  18. can't believe i missed this. hope the blurays are already out in the east. Kung Fu Hustle made me laugh so hard. and i see similar zaniness in the trailer. it looks like the big buddha palm is back too!
  19. that was the first film i saw him in and was thoroughly floored. RIP
  20. Need some advice. i have a Synology 2-bay NAS and was wondering which is the better option for transporting it: 1) remove drives and pack in my handcarry bag, put the NAS with the checked-in luggage 2) keep drives in the NAS, put NAS back in original box, then inside checked-in luggage
  21. sign me up for any and all stuff you'll be releasing in 1/350, hopefully some 1/144 too do you have a list of your planned kits? would be interesting to have these side by side with recent 1/350 Star Wars models.
  22. i'm similarly inclined. and Kaiki likely knows it too. as for what's in the closet, i think we're just being trolled by Kaiki and it's probably something relatively benign. really, really enjoying Kaiki as the lead. when he threatens Ononoki that he'll kick the crap out of her if she says "peace, peace" again, i realized it's something Meme will never say, and why Kaiki is more interesting.
  23. i've had no issue with lag connecting my laptop to LCD TV via HDMI (or more accurately, laptop to AV receiver to TV). as azrael said, there will always be lag, but IMHO it's a non-factor these days. i have yet to meet a gamer who can legitimately claim they are able to frag more because their displays were faster. the average human response time is 150-300ms, most displays are under 100ms, good ones are sub 20ms. seriously, this would make for a good episode on Mythbusters. what you do have to think about is whether your laptop can output 1080p at decent framerates at detail settings you can live with. if your laptop puts out 1080p then the TV just displays it as is, but if you send the signal at other resolutions, say 720p or any of the other reduced resolution game settings, then the TV's upconverter will kick in. i haven't noticed any lag with the upconversion, but i mostly play Starcraft and RTS games rather than shooters. the quality of the upconversion though will depend on the processing engine onboard the TV and varies from model to model, even within same brand. poor upconversion means some of the hi-res details will be mushed/softened, but honestly, once you're engrossed in a game, you would hardly notice. the Pioneer Kuro is truly legendary. my buddy had it in his mancave and it was really a pleasure to watch. i wouldn't buy one myself though as it is overkill for most applications and its advantages diminish in the typical bright living room setting. edit: just for fun http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/ i suppose sub-100ms is Jedi territory
