I got my V2 VF-1D 30th anniversary. But I got it myself....so I don't consider it holiday loot. I actually got nothing from my wife for X-mas. And yes...I got her something she wanted. I hate this time of year.

The black looks not bad. I may have to get a set.

I just watched your vid. Awesome stuff. One day I hope to get one.....

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
vt102 replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
I agree. A bit too slender. Gotta beef it up just a little. -
Looking for a detailed Armored VF-1 kit. Any suggestions?

Worse case.... you could buy a 1/100 or a 1/72 Bandai one from Ebay. Those will be easier to get. OR.... I may sell mine.... for the right price. But it won't be cheap. -

Those look like they are garage kits for the hasegawa kits. I have one that I will build one of these days. Check my kits gallery for pics. -
Please do. I want to see what the black looks like on the valks.

Nice work.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
vt102 replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Exactly. People should be comparing this to the old Imai 1/72 parts forming kit......not the V2 Yamato's. Yup...me too. I like the fact that these new ways of designing and revamping the good ole VF-1 are being used. I know the design has been played out......but I love the VF-1's. If it ends up looking similar to a Hasegawa design, but can transform.....the best of both worlds (toys, and model kits). -
Don't forget me. Check my sig....

I hear you big F....my collection is still mainly 1/55's, but I am now building my 1/60 V2 collection too. Part of me wants to sell the chunky monkeys......but I just can't part with them. I do still want to buy more 1/55's, since my collection is not complete.....but my funds don't allow me to. One day......one day....

Bumping an old thread. Anyone still mod these? Not mods, but custom parts. Rob Beers's clear casted canopies, and Chris's custom heatshields.
-
Very nice first attempt! I can't wait to see it finished. I also like your unbuilt stash....I have all those same ones....except the VE-1.

WOW! Just bust out the limited edition valks! Nice collection! -
I know....I may get more of your hinges....
-
I got the 5mm hinges installed on my other one. They do not fit without filing down some material. Maybe if you mix match the 4 & 5... they might fit without mods. So to make them fit, I had to file down some material where the 2 meet up in fighter mode. As you can see with the pic....they only go in at a 45 degree angle. So I took off about less than 1/2 a mm....I might go back and take a little more off. It does not affect the lock (little bump you have to go over when transforming into gerwalk or battroid)when in battroid mode. Also when going back into fighter, you have to unlock the bar, to raise it higher for the hinge bulge to fit under. Once they are straight....you can lock down the bar. Then it is rock solid....maybe too solid. Not sure if anyone else is having the same problem as me. Please chime in. Also the balls on these are also a bit small. I had to stuff the joint for it to be snug.
-
Here is the 5mm ones. Once that material is shaved off.... it closes almost flush. And I found the right pin size....I cut the spring on a clothes pin....works good.
-
OK....I got one set installed. This the smaller ones that come as a pair. I noticed when you put them together....it does not close flat. So I shaved a little material off the center where it closes on the inside. I got it to almost close flush.... the fatter 5mm ones close alot better once the center material is shaved off. And it is very very minimal.....not going to affect the strength one bit. Here are both shoulders replaced. The white is not too bad with the flash....even when its off....it is not that bad. The TV J, and S should be a perfect color match...since I hear the plastic on those are a bright white. Note: I did notice the ball for the shoulder is a bit small. I tightened the 2 screws as tight as I could....but was still loose. I had to use a foam piece to fill up the gap. Once I did that....it is alot better. FYI.... the material I chose was the white strong & flexible. I wonder if I chose the polished....that it would be even looser?
