Abombz... once you've seen the SW Holiday Special... you're changed. You cannot go back to what you once were. It is truly the end of innocence. As for Ghostbusters... I never liked the cartoon or any of the other crap, other than the original film and the performance of the brilliant Bill Murray. Those comic panels look more like Ghostbusters on Vacation in Sin City.

Totally Off Topic - But FREAKIN ME OUT
Blaine23 replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, it's a chick thing... maybe some paid chick christmas service... But wouldn't it be much cooler if each day got creepier and creepier, until you just freaked out? Third day - An entire notebook filled with tiny writing (a la Se7en) of obsessive, fawning praise about you. Fourth day - B&W pictures of you taken during the day without your knowledge. Fifth day - Photoshop generated pictures of your head on a knight in shining armor. Sixth day - Photoshop generated pictures of your head on a black male porn star. And a lipstick kiss on the photo. Seventh day - An ugly ring with the words "you will be mine forever and ever and ever and ever" engraved on it. Eighth day - Human blood in a jar. With a note, "now you can hold even more of my heart than before" Ninth day - A baby doll wearing makeup. A note that reads, "take care of our baby! We love him so much, don't we?" Tenth day - A dead kitten. In a holiday bag. A note that reads, "take care of Mr. Sprinkles!" Eleventh day - A human finger. A note explaining that the home finger removal hurt, but that it was soooooo worth it, to make your christmas as special as possible. Twelfth day - Nothing at all.... just waiting... in your closet with a gun. -
Or... we could elect a committee that must then be ratified by the highest posting members who have never cheated on their taxes, then run that ratification past a group that we will called the "Secret Elders" who must then decide to grant the titles of "pseudo-mods" to those that pass muster, the "Secret Elders" will then grant these "pseudo-mods" each a specific number that will be based upon those born before June and those born after July, that number will processed and put through the "Mod Formula" to decide how many days they will serve as "Pseudo Mods" - a decision that must be approved by each and every member in triplicate, upon which... Aw... f-ck it. Let's just leave it like it is. Keep up the good work, moddies.

Uh... is there really that much difference between TATU's schtick and most little schoolgirl anime anyway? File under Yawn.

Here's a guess... because most people loved it. I'm a huge Spidey fan and I thought the first movie was excellent and I'm definitely looking forward to this one. I think Maguire and Dunst do a fine job (waaaaaay better than Jessica Biel, who is a terrible actress). But the main reason this one will make another couple hundred million is because Sam Raimi is a terrific director and knows what makes Spiderman work.

I'm sure they'll make a nice, highly detailed SDF from DYRL. The question is really whether or not it will be at a scale that anyone can afford. I love Yamato, but let's keep the prices realistic, can we?

First off... Graham, ew. Second... those who don't understand the love for the 1/55 are just going to have to continue being mystified. They're excellent toys, they're fun to play with, and they're solid as a rock. Someone asked, "why buy reissues? They're just NEW toys that look OLD?" Well, that's kinda the point. When Bandai was reissuing the 1/55's, you could buy a NEW, improved toy (better heatshield, printed decals) for under a $100 bucks that was almost identical to those jacked-up price toys on eBay. With the 1/55, you either love the design for the nostalgia, the heft, or the playability. If you don't like 'em - then don't buy 'em. Maybe the prices will go down and I can get my SuperO, GBP, and Elint 1/55's without having to sell my kidneys in Tijuana.

What were your Favorite PS2 games of this year
Blaine23 replied to jwinges's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's all about Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and GTA III (which I only got this year). I'm also into the Simpsons - Hit & Run (GTA-esque and manna for Simpsons fans). Biggest letdowns - True Crime: Streets of LA - a sad wanna-be GTA. Tomb Raider - Angel of Darkness - bleh. Still want to get - Prince of Persia Manhunt -
And when everything was going so well...

It makes some sense now. SO its basically like the book. I just hope they skip that part with Saruman and the hobbits in the end. That totally ruined the book for me. I have the exact opposite opinion. The ending with Saruman and the hobbits is part of what made the books so damn good, in my opinion. Abombz, be relieved. Radd, be sad. PJ's already stated that there won't be any Saruman VS. the Shire stuff in RotK (Hence, the complete lack of Saruman in the movie that folks are bitching about). Personally, I'm glad it's not going to be included... the whole "Sharky" bit was out of place and further dragged out the ending, which wouldn't work at all in the movie. I'd rather see the Shirefolk have to defend themselves from Orcs or something less stupid than "Sharky". I also just hate the name "Sharky". And as far as the 11 different endings... duh... the story has tons of characters and spans 3 films and 12 hours. Of course there's going to be some serious wrap-up issues. Sounds like one of those whiny reviews from someone who just doesn't "get" the series in general. -
Favorite game of all time & Videogame Company
Blaine23 replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not much of a gamer.. but Favorite games ever - Grand Theft Auto III (PS2) Grand Theft Auto III - Vice City (PS2) King's Quest I- whatever (Old Skool PC) Tomb Raider (PS1) Spiderman 1 & 2 (PS1) Legend of Zelda & Adventures of Link (Nintendo) Doom II (PC) Duke Nukem (PC) Most of the other games I've had and played I got bored with. These I either solved or played them until the console went the way of the buffalo. -
In this thread, one must duly give props to Lebhead for pioneering this tactic on the old board with his homo-erotic Robotech avatars. ::Shudder:: Look what you did, Leb.

Which is your favorite Star Wars movie?
Blaine23 replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm surprised to see so much love for RotJ... but I think the age you were when the movie came out is a big factor. For alot of younger folk, RotJ was their Star Wars movie. Just as ESB was "the flick" to those of us around 30, and SW to those old fogeys who were our big brothers. RotJ has good stuff (final confrontations, resolution, best effects of the OT) and bad stuff (Ewoks, let's blow up the death star again!)... but I didn't expect to see more fans of it than A New Hope. -
Nope it is the same. There are also threads / offers about this in the For Sale Section and Dealer Announcements. Rob Please excuse the question, but as I understand its USD$24.00 to get the armor in the other thread. While it is $38.00 to get the armor on this thread. I'm confused. Thanks in advance for your help. Vic. It's pretty simple, Vic. Rob is charging 38.00 plus shipping, the other supplier is asking for $24 (but isn't taking any more orders right now)... This isn't a charity or an order from Yamato direct. The vendor (Rob in this case) is charging $38 for his work in receiving all of these items, then resending them out to us. Different folks charge different amounts for their effort. If you can find it cheaper, you are always welcome to do business with another vendor. Check the For Sale and Dealer Announcements for other vendors.

Which is your favorite Star Wars movie?

I agree. Irvin Kershner's directing and Leigh Brackett's script made this movie stand out, IMO, from the rest of the films. Unfortunately, Kershner never directed another SW film and Brackett died by the time her script was approx. 90% complete. Lawrence Kasdan was called in to finish it up and went on to script Jedi, which explains it's weak script. All Empire's weak lines I'll attribute to Kasdan. Heh... I'm the opposite. I'm a Kasdan fan (though no one can be fan enough to excuse Dreamcatcher), but I always figured the writer of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Mumford (a personal fave), and Silverado was responsible for the good lines... but you never know. All I know is that Leigh Brackett was mainly a TV writer (Rockford Files!) and Rio Bravo. Jedi's problem to me was never weak lines, but rather awful "story"... that we can surely blame Lucas for. I know neither Brackett nor Kasdan came up with the Ewoks. Still, you can definitely agree on Irwin Kershner being the badass that brought it all home. ESB just plain rules. I just read about Leigh Brackett on the IMDB... seems she died of cancer after her first draft of ESB... that's sad. -
Whew... got my order in - in the nick of time. At first I wasn't into the idea of the clear packs, but after I saw how affordable they would be and that Rob was making it so easy, I warmed up to it quite a bit. Thanks again, Rob - you are so the man.

My ranking... 1. Empire - best director, best script, best film... no competition. 2. A New Hope - it was the first and had the most heart. 3. Return of the Jedi - though the weakest of the OT, it kills the Prequels. 4. Attack of the Clones - better than Ep1... but still very lacking. 5. The Phantom Menace - what the hell were they thinking? -
Well, aside from Stan Winston's work making JP look better than most newer CGI, you also have 2 other big factors. Now that every movie has CGI, you have less talented people working on some films and digital effects studios churning out effects faster and with much less care than JP. The other big reason is that it takes a smart director to make an effects shot work. You don't get much better in terms of craft than Spielberg.

Ew! Vostok 7 Mayhap this should be retitled "Otaku Sausage Party?"
-
Ew... With other guys around?! That's N-A-S-T-Y. Vostok 7 As if it would be any less freakish if he wasn't around all those other guys? Seriously, this pic is beyond disturbing, even if it is older than dirt.

I'm so happy I'm not a low-viz fan (I like canon valks) and I decided to pass... these prices went up super fast... good luck to all those still looking.

A kid plays video games and ends up saving the universe... I said it then and I'll say it now, it's a crappy version of Ender's Game with no depth whatsoever. But I love it as a kid. Thanks for a much needed shot of nostalgia, A7.

Same here... I'll be 30 in February... but I'd rather put that off for another decade. At least I'm not as old as Montarvillois

Why would dub-haters grab pitchforks? They'll never listen to it anyway. It could be Erik Estrada and Bea Arthur as VAs and they wouldn't know! Repeat after me "I do not care how other people choose to watch their anime. I don't have to listen to dubs thanks to the miracle of DVD."

Relax fellas, I called you "whiners" in a good natured way. Of course we'd all like to know more, but my point is that it isn't Graham's decision about when & what we hear from Yamato. He's a big fan who runs a website and knows those who make the toys. That's it. We can all be reasonably assured that we'll see more 1/48 VF-1 valkyries, we just don't know which ones. We can speculate all day, but we'll know when Yamato tells us. That's the way they want it. We just heard that Yamato has plans for VF-0 valks coming. And the YF-19FP is coming. It doesn't do us any good to have threads like this. It justs gets folks worked up and "beggy". Let's take the high road, eh? The Sith will reveal all in due time. Let's just be happy that we live in the best time ever to be a Macross fan.
-
jeez... do you whiners want to know what you're getting for Christmas before you unwrap the present? Everything Yamato puts out is revealed in good time. Enjoy the anticipation and quit bugging Graham.
