  1. What's that sound, folks? Sounds like the Whaaaambulance. So Yamato is making small VF-0 toys. Doesn't mean they won't make bigger ones too. Perhaps they decided they should make some products with a lower price point. I like the sculpt quite a bit and I guess we'll find out how the transformation works when it's time. I'm not a fan of stands, but that one rocks.

Damn... Senor Warmaker's ride hath never seemed so sweet. At the risk of repeating the obvious... Jung, you are a badass.
  3. Oooo! OOooo! Can I get one that says "Winger RuleZ!" Or "Facts of Life Kicks total AZZZ!" Lol. I like your tactic. ;P I'm gonna try it. =D *copy and paste* Oooo! OOooo! Can I get one that says "High on Macross II!" Or "The One and Only Macross II Otaku!" See... the mods aren't going to do that because that's what you want. The bitter irony is that Winger doesn't actually rule anything. Nor does the Facts of Life actually Kick total AZZZ. Now, if you were arrogantly mocking someone or making a silly point by saying "I've got a midget in my pants!" I wouldn't be surprised if that ended up in your sig. Such is the nature of our cruel and lovely moderators.
  4. 'Tis nobody's fault but mine. I custom made the av, and I was quoted accurately for the title. Hmmm... have we considered Macross decoder rings? Then we could all share secret gay messages! Howzabout the Macross-division of Oprah's Book Club? Then we could share how these stories make us feel about our own lives and family. Or we could just post crap repeatedly into this thread until the mods' sigh, lock it, and grumble to one another about how much we all suck.
  5. I'll address your points one by one, Neko. What does happen to fans of the original? Do they get attacked on the street by giant monkeys? No, mostly they just complain endlessly about trivial changes from the source material and refuse to be open minded. Seems to me that Spiderman gets the worse end of the stick on that deal. If they make a bad movie, folks will trash it and that'll be the end of that. Poor Spidey would get put through the ringer endlessly. It's not as if a bad movie will somehow ruin the anime that came first. I agree with you there, but I think I'm less surprised by it than you seem to be. Hollywood is anything but original... but occasionally they crank out a few good movies - both based on licenses and original screenplays. But do you really think if they changed just the names (Asuka to Kate, and so on) and the title (let's go with Cybergun Robotika) that they wouldn't get sued for everything else by Gainax? Doesn't the mecha appear similar? The city designs? The character looks and outfits? It seems like they're being fairly true to the source material, if you ask me. They changed some names and some ages. I wouldn't have much trouble guessing that Cybergun Robotika was clearly based on NGE from what I see here. Yeah! And they should never make movies based off of books, either! That Silence of the Lambs was crap! So was Gone With the Wind, the Wizard of OZ, LotR, and about a million others! They shouldn't base it off of comic books neither! That Spiderman and X-Men were universally hated by everyone! What makes anime so different? Why shouldn't they try to bring these stories to the bigger market of live action film? What makes anime so uniquely special that it simply CANNOT ever be adapted to another form? Are these stories untellable in film? Not really. Not anymore with CGI being what it is. Well... you have me stumped there. I like it when talented people work on movies. Of course it's all about the $$$. The original anime for NGE was also all about the $$$. If it had bombed on Japan TV, do you think we'd be discussing it here now? Sure, the creator had an artistic goal, but there's plenty of evidence that it was made to be profitable to boot. They are going to make live action movies based on your precious anime. It will happen and some of it will be bad, some of it might be good. Comic book fans said the same thing, so did book geeks. Both were proven wrong by talented directors, screenwriters, actors, etc... Why have such a knee jerk reaction to it? Why not wait to hate it after you see if it'll really suck all by itself?
  6. ADV is making the film, check out this thread Here. As for the name changes, why would anyone other Anno himself care? So Asuka is Kate. Rei is Ray. Misato is Susan. Big whoop. They're making a movie in English, they want to use English names. They'll probably use English actors. I'm still shocked that anyone is surprised by this. If New Line thought they would have made more money by changing Gandalf to Bob, I'm sure they would have done the same thing. They'll also most likely make them all a bit older. And things will look different. And the story will be different. And lots of other changes. But none of this really matters. What matters is if they can tell a compelling story. And that remains to be seen. Everything else is just semantics. Spartacus would have been a great film if his name was Marcus. You see my point?
  7. Heh... actually Evangelion was raped by a New Zealand movie design house. Seriously though... didn't you expect this? There is absolutely no way that they would make a movie about EVA that mirrored the original anime. And why is that necessarily a bad thing? The anime will always be what is, just as the movie will be whatever they make it to be. Why must every fan of the original material take such offense at changes? I guess it wouldn't be the internet if people didn't grouse about "the atrocities the movie company did to my beloved (Evangelion, LotR, Spiderman, X-Men, whatever, whatever). Just remember that you originally like the anime and leave it at that. If you don't really care, then whatever WETA or ADV do really isn't going to upset you.
  8. hmm... I agree in some respects to this statement, but I think it has to do more with the fact that it (the VF-1S) has been around for so long. Make no mistake, the VF 1S is the shiet. But I think the YF 19 is right up there with the VF 1S. In the short time since it's debut in the 90's, its Years-since-debut:Popularity ratio is comparable, if not better than the VF 1S. As for yammies, the YF 19 sells better... not the VF 1S. I've seen people happily dish out $160+ for a 1/72 YF 19, even despite it's flaws and small scale... If yamato makes it any better or bigger, there's no question that they'd sell out almost immediately. I alone would buy 3-5 of em... anyway, that's my two cents. You really think the Yf-19 is comparable in popularity to the VF-1S? Better?!? I have to respectfully disagree... maybe on this board there's a big number of Macross Plus fans, but overall the Skull Focker (hee!) has got it whupped. There has been one toy made of the YF-19. Two if you count the repaint. Both made by Yamato in the last 5 years. There have been probably 50 various versions of the Skull Focker in toy mode (if you don't count bootlegs), made since Macross began. The YF-19 was featured in 5 episodes of an OVA. The Skull Focker was featured in 36 eps of Macross, then was the only valk from the TV show not redesigned for the film DYRL. In fact, the other valks were made to look just like it! The YF-19 toy's prices have soared up to $160... mainly because it's Yamato's first Macross release and it's no longer available. The VF-1S has commanded prices in the $1000's. Before the Bandai reissues, the Takatoku originals were worth tons. You'll see the inflated prices of the YF-19 drop when Yamato releases a new one, similarly. If collectability was the ratio to measure, then the Bandai Super O and Elint would be the most popular valks and we all know that ain't true. And I would also wager that Yamato has sold many, many, many more of their 1/60 and 1/48 Skull Fockers than they ever did the YF-19. I'd also gladly wager that they paid much more to make VF-1S licensed toys than they did for YF-19 licenses. Then you have to factor in Robotech (groan)... hate it or despise it, HG's bastard series garnered more fans in the US than Macross Plus ever will. Mainly due to the era it was on and the lack of competing anime in the states at the time. The Skull Focker is easily the most expensive and commonly sold of the Robotech Masterpiece toys as well. All of the others are on sale. The VF-1S isn't. Last, you also have to remember that the Skull Focker was so damn cool he was a Transformer with a funky repaint. And a damn popular transformer at that, with many fans not caring at all about his Macross origins. I think it's a landslide victory for the Skull Focker... Personally, it ain't my favorite valk, but I think there's no question to it's popularity.
  9. You're not drunk yet? No... but I'm on so many other drugs that I can't keep count. For example, that picture of Elisha Cuthbert looks like she's beckoning me to join her. "Come into the light Blaine! Come into the light!"
  10. My number 1 pick would be the Glaug, it's always been my favorite enemy mecha. Followed very closely would be Destroids. Lots and lots of destroids.
  11. Quite titillating, isn't she?
  12. We could have a "Macross World After Dark" area where smokey rooms are filled with the sounds of hip jazz and half dressed women wearing rabbit ears bring us martinis and cigars. We could discuss politics, philosophy, and other intellectual pursuits. Or we could erect our own false idol, praise it, and festoon it with flowers and write poetry for it. Or we could all come up with a plan to overthrow the Dairy Farmers of America and steal their cows for ourselves! All of the best ideas are wrought forth from boredom.
  13. He won't be able to tell you. Even if he knew, Yamato wouldn't want that information known. The fact is that Yamato is being pretty wise about all of this. They won't announce any news of a 1/48 armor until the 1/60 armor has run it's course. I wouldn't either, if I was them. The fact is that many people wouldn't buy the 1/60 if they knew for sure that a 1/48 version was coming down the road. My guess, is that we probably will see 1/48 GBP, but it'll be some time before we do. Until then, welcome to Macrossworld! Like your mecha avatar... feel free to show off more of your work sometime, it looks great. edit: That damn moderator can type fast...
  14. Oooo! OOooo! Can I get one that says "Winger RuleZ!" Or "Facts of Life Kicks total AZZZ!" Someone got a thing for Blair, Nat and Tootie?? .....or is it Edna? I'm all about them all... in a big naked romp. Mrs. Garrett holds the digicam. Suddenly I'm finding out the Facts of Life are all about you.... I suppose I should have been expecting this.
  15. That is so freaking awesome. "Body Massage!"
  16. Oooo! OOooo! Can I get one that says "Winger RuleZ!" Or "Facts of Life Kicks total AZZZ!"
  17. Congrats A7! I always knew you were waaaaay too professional to be espousing opinions with crummy folk like us! Good luck, hope it works out well with the advertising.
  18. "Agent Hurley, I want you to give this scumbag a cavity search! I'm talking Roto-Rooter! Don't stop until you reach the back of his teeth!" Oops... wrong animated Robert Stack character...
  19. Same here! I wasn't too jazzed about it being a 1st person shooter... but I just played HALO for the first time at a friend's house (darn that X-Box!) and now I've kinda got the taste to play a FPS again. Hopefully it'll be pretty cool. At least TDK is using Mospeada as the setting... easily our only to ever play a Mospeada game.
  20. Well, I definitely don't think it's another variation on the 1/48 VF-1... it seems that question has been asked and answered by the announcement of the M&M Super 1/48's. And Graham said specifically that it's another product entirely. So commence with the wondering. Mayhap it really is the new YF-19... or Mac Zero. I'm looking forward until all is revealed.
  21. Alas, the 1/60 add-on FAST packs have gone the way of the buffalo. Or the dodo.
  22. I can dig everybody's personal preferences regarding scale... but I think overall the point is moot. 1/48 enemy mecha would just cost too damn much for Yamato to make a profit. Still... you scale guys do realize that in the anime that these toys are based off of the scales are completely out of whack, too? Let a toy be a toy, is my motto. Let's just stop the madness before people on here start begging for a 1/48 SDF-1.
  23. Which one is the best? That's a personal opinion. My personal favorite valkyrie is the VF-1D. It's goofy, but I love it. Which one is the most popular? Easily answered. The VF-1S. The Skull 01 Focker VF-1S is the most recognized valkyrie toy of Macross. There have been more toys and models of this particular valk than any of the others combined and they always sell better than the others.
  24. Uh Blaine... hate to break this to you.....but a court ruled in Japan that Tatsunoko and Harmony Gold own that animation in the US lock, stock and barrel. I highly doubt that Tats/HG in turn sold that animation to Animeigo. Last time I checked...they extended a license to Animeigo. That means that Tats/HG can in turn do what they want with it. That is how licenses work. Don't be smarmy, 1BRD... there's no need to "hate to break" anything to me. I'm well aware of the court decisions and where the rights to SDF Macross are currently and I'm well aware of how licenses work. My point was that we don't know what sort of license Animeigo signed with HG that would allow them to use their restored Macross footage as part of Robotech Remastered DVDs put out now by ADV. My point was that obviously the contract must include that provision, therefore there's no need for folks here to be upset about HG using the restored footage however they see fit. Do you understand me this time? <_<
  25. Shawn has been really busy lately. Actually the real Shawn died years ago, I have assumed his role.(For those of you that have seen Equilibrium, you know the ref.) I was wondering why he was so mean and smelled like old cheese lately... Does this mean your many admirers can have you banned for having multiple accounts?
