  1. Well... duh... what kid wants to play with his gimpy armless hero robot toy?
  2. Yep, Revell made Robotech-brand Orguss models and HG considered using Orguss footage to make up Carl Macek's [sarcasm]vision[/sarcasm] of Robotech. As we all know, they decided to use Southern Cross, Mospeada and a little show called Macross instead. Of course, they later abused Megazone 23 to make their awful Robotech movie. I'm sure there's more dirt and rumor, but them's the basic. To find out more, there's a pretty good FAQ on the basics of Robotech and where it came from here.
  3. How practical!
  4. seriously, difficult to understand posts have gotten kinda comon around here lately. "comon?" The irony here is strong. Seriously, looks like a great toy you purchased there, lavendar. I think the original Taka/Matsushiro will always hold their value to collectors of those toys.
  5. Thanks! You're welcome! Tomorrow I'm even gonna let you dress yourself... provided you choose from your "big boy clothes"!
  6. Meh... Disney should be kissing Pixar's digital butt, if you ask me. Treasure Planet or Finding Nemo... I'd say Diz owes Pixar pretty good. It's kinda hard to get behind a company that forces Walt's nephew to take a walk.
  7. I just bounce a tennis ball against the wall... for hours.
  8. Do you mean a new version of the VF-1...or actually alter the base of the VF-1 design and just change the name? For instance, are you saying you wouldn't mind a redesign in the same vein as the (bear with me) Robotech YF-1R veritech? Or by "calling it something else" do you mean something like the VF-0? Close enough, but not quite a VF-1. Otherwise, I don't see the point in changing the design of the subject at hand (the VF-1) and then calling it something else. A spade is a spade. Well, I'm of the opinion that Kawamori can do whatever he wants to with Macross. If he chose to do a Macross series that was not in continuity with all that's out there now, that's fine with me. I'd watch it and most likely find enjoyment in it. I could really care less, as long as it didn't inspire stupid continuity arguements, dig what I'm saying? To me, that would make more sense than trying to fit a VF-0 into Macross continuity... but that's my opinion. You can have your own. If the show was called Macross X, then I'd prefer it if it was called the Macross X VF-1... that way we'd avoid all the stupidity that comes from the typical "I think the VF0 looks more modern than the VF1" arguements. Hope that clears it up for you. Now I'm going to go find a spade and call it a spade.
  9. I voted no. They have no reason to make an english language website other than to cater to lazy, whiny english speaking fanboys like us which are not their active market. I'm a businessman myself and I have to vote how I think they should act. (read my sig now) How hard is it to create an English link/site using JS, Flash, XML, and HTML codes? Talk about being lazy. Creating a multi-lingual website is not a trivial task. It is not another line of code or a 'Save As...' option in your editor. Remember languages are complex things. It is not a simple look-up translation. There are issues with parts of speech, tenses, word order, local slangs, exceptions to rules, etc. To see for yourself, get a document written in Latin and a Latin-to-English dictionary. You'll probably be able to find the english meaning for the various words, but you won't be able to put them into an meaningful order. The longer and more complex the sentence, the worse it gets. A multi-lingual website is certainly doable, but it would require resources. Corporations don't usually have resources just sitting around, especially in the current economic climate. Using an existing resource means you will take a hit in another area. Getting a new resource costs money. Neither one is an effective use of money considering that Yamato can't sell directly to this market. Big word to that, VF1Guy.. My last job was working as web content admin at a giant auto parts company expanding into Mexico... I sat through about 7000 meetings on trying to create a Spanish version of the site. It is truly stunning to see how poorly translation programs work and how many thousands of variable dialects can completely change the intent of the original words. Throw in legal ramifications... sheesh. In the end, the company went with manual translators for all it's Mexico-related content.... and the website is still very, very far from going live en espanol. This process started 5 years ago. Of course, I'm also talking about a website that contained well over 2 million pages... I think if Yamato just prepared a single "News" page in English when they update it would please tons of their English speaking fans. That can't hurt sales. Seriously, you guys ever imagine how clueless we'd be without this forum to share info? It would be silly for a company to depend on a fansite such as this... we have to be responsible somewhat for Yamato's final sales figures. I just can't imagine that English speaking toy buyers don't add anything to their bottom line - even if it is a not "supposed" to be so, due to licensing.
  10. Dude, it got old about 30 posts back. Either way, I don't mind alternate continuity, as long as it's properly designated so. No one confuses the RX-78 with Turn-A... because they're named differently. I really don't care what SK does, as long as he doesn't just shoe-horn a ton of VF+number designations into it. I would be totally fine if he wanted to make a redesigned VF-1... just call it something else please... otherwise it gets muddy and silly and inspires ridiculous fan arguments on the nature of DYRL's continuity within Macross as a whole.
  11. Which part of the response amazes and/or amuses you? The part where we all laugh at you and the silliness of your demanding a distinction between die cast metal and die cast plastic... or the part where we just question your sanity?
  12. To the Playstation. Or the nearest book or anime dvd. But I always come back.
  13. I have to agree with Drewbie... I'm not a fan of custom DVD cases... mainly because with your DVDs on the shelf, no one can see the case... I like to read the spines. Plus, it's a bit extravagent. I might change my mind if the finished product was really mind-numbingly good and the price was nice... but I think it's a great idea for those of you who like custom cases. I've heard nothing but great things about Paul's work. How could anybody not be a complete pimp when your last name is "Champagne?" [pimp] "Don't worry baby, Champagne's gonna take extra special care of your needs..." [/pimp]
  14. Which is it? Were you baiting or were you ranting because it was on your nerves? Either way, I don't think anyone around appreciates being "baited" for reactions... had enough of that back in the day. I think it really does bother you... given your past rantings about the 1/48. <_<
  15. Dude, I don't know what y'all are talking about, man.. Van Helsing freakin' rulez, man!
  16. Though that is a nice idea, intention-wise... nothing should be done without a full on sanction from Shawn & Graham. This is their baby and it's totally their decision. I wouldn't want to be a part of anything that felt underhanded. But I do think the idea of "helpers" is a good one and now that it's been thrown out there, we'll just see if it's what they would like to do. Azrael's right, everything basically waits until the owner of the site has the time to decide what he wants to do. But I'll officially offer up my skills as content manager and graphics designer, plus light coding (no php skills yet, but I love to learn)... if Shawn has any use for them. Anybody else interested (and actually capable, no offense) that has the time and the love for MW to work hard for free should basically do the same.
  17. I'll buy one... While they're at it, I belive there's a lot of VF-4 fans here too... And Stampeed Valks, and Thunderhummers, and blah, blah, blah... Public recognition factor zero.
  18. Great suggestions all... I just wish there was a way we could all work together on this stuff... I mean, there's got to be a least 10 decent hardcore MW members who are both coders as well as some very good designers... Maybe we could go all A-Team and form a crack commando unit? Edited to clarify: My crack commando unit, I meant a bunch of free contract laborers for MW, dictated and directed, of course, by the Powers That Be (Shawn & Graham).
  19. I doubt he will. Again, I think the VF-0 probably is all the nostalgia needed for the original VF-1 style... as far as all of this supposed "lack of love" for other VF's... I think that Yamato, Bandai, Hasegawa are simply responding to what nostalgia is popular right now. Basically, if a new Big West Macross show debuted tomorrow starring every other VF that SK has designed and folks loved it... then you'd see a bunch of toys and models being released soon after. I don't think its very realistic to expect a toy company to produce obscure valks from page whatever of Macross Design works or some old video game from an outdated console. But if folks were realistic and not just blind valkyrie lovers, then this wouldn't be Macrossworld, would it?
  20. Thanks, me and my new Chocolate lab pup, Beans, totally appreciate all compliments as well as everyone staying as apolitical as possible and staying on topic. I just wonder how cute he'll be when he's redecorating my floor with poo.
  21. Can I just take a minute to applaud you for saying, "dang, man"... It made me feel all southern for a minute there...
  22. C'mon, JsA... Eddie likes to have fun too! Kuba Kick! is for everybody, even Eagles!
  23. Pretty stuff, MM... I was tempted into throwing mine and the old lady's (love saying that) tax returns into a downpayment on a Flat panel WEGA... Yet, she has already chosen to throw hers into a treadmill from Sears. So, it looks like I'll putting my tax return into this little fellow below. I'll be picking him up in 2 weeks. Now if I can just figure out a way to keep him MIB...
  24. Aside from Josie Maran, and the girl from Sex and Lucia (I knew I'd seen her somewhere, thanks EXO)... mainly this movie looks like big, dumb fun. And I like big, dumb fun. Like the Mummy, etc. When I want a good movie I'll go pull out a dvd from the home library.
  25. Seriously... where I can I get this? Talk about a great drinking game!
