The 1/55 design? The Diecast masterpiece Chunky Monkey? Delicate... Nope... in fact -

Am I the only MW'er that posted their photo?
Blaine23 replied to UN Spacy's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
How surprising! As for my personal photo... I couldn't resist putting another shameless picture of the newest addition to my family... Beans. He's 7 weeks old, chocolate lab, likes to bite, and use the bathroom wherever he wants to, whenever he wants to. And he's an adorable little bastard. -
Well, it's official Star Wars is coming out on DVD... but there is an emphasis on the fact that ONLY the reissue versions will be included. What a bunch of tools. Here's the text from DVDfile.com. My favorite is that STAR WARS is supposedly about art and filmmaking... I must have missed that point with absolute onslaught of merchandise from the whored-out franchise. The art must be somewhere between the 800 bad novel tie-ins and the Chewbacca toothbrush. It's a shame... does anybody know of a decent HK bootleg of the original versions? I don't mind the "restored" version, but I'd like to have a copy of the original trilogy that didn't involve my VCR..

I thought people that liked Macross had taste. "....And our media department has succeeded in selling ten more mindless sitcoms to the networks to further lower the intelligence of America!...." - Cobra Commander. Word. I feel as though I've stepped into an alternate reality where Dukakis was president and people really loved "New Coke"... You guys really liked this show?

OT: STAR WARS Celebration III (CIII)
Blaine23 replied to B-52 GUNNER's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Probably because it's the middle of the country... easier driving distance for most folks. Indinapolis is a big city, btw... it's just not Hollywood or New York It's about time folks did something interesting in the middle of the U.S. New York and L.A. get all kinds of cool crap. Let's hear it for middle america! -
Wow... how the hell would they get ahold of Low-Viz valkyries? Do british people really have their own time machines?
-
Doesn't seem likely anybody will be willing to part with their "big hands" from the last releases... It's much, much more likely that someone here will recast them (hint! hint!) and sell them for a small amount. It really is a perfect item for recasting. And it's also possible Yamato may make them available seperately... but this could take awhile or might not happen (remember the 1/60 fastpack add-ons?). But at least they're considering it. This is from the "1/48 fixed pilot thread" which can be found here. Graham said: So, I'd be patient. I'll bet the recasters here on MW are probably already on this like white on rice. EDITED to add "probably on this like white on rice"... I got no idea if anybody's decided to this yet...

Hmmm... I think folks are overwhelmed by the thought of buying TWO 1/48 super valks right now... basically it's like one big $360 item The pictures don't really look too terribly different than the 1/60's... and there's no telling if Yamato is going to offer something they like even better 2 months later. As it gets closer to ship date and folks start receiving them, I'll wager more folks would decide to get them. I personally can't wait... the thought of two massive Super M&M valks on my shelf is awesome to me. I'll tell you another thing... if Yamato decides to cut their production down on these and make less of them (like Bandai did with their M&M's a few years back), it'll start a stampede. For some reason, people lose their objectivity if they think they're looking at a "rare" or "hard to get" item. Look at all these "Johnny come latelys" in the For Sale forums who have all of a sudden decided they cannot live without getting their hands on a Low-Viz... which was quite easy to find when it came out.

You know it would have been one of the better eps this season... and thus, of course, Time Warner Cable in my area somehow went wacky and everyone in town was treated to 30 minutes of 24, followed by 30 minutes of "Reggae Spotlight" on the World Music station of MusicChoice... freaked me out, man! One minute Nina is testing the virus, the next minute I can't change the channel to stop the rasta vibes... Damn technology! Thank god for internet recaps. Without I would have to assume Jack, Chase, and the Delta teams were interecepted by Jamaican warriors armed with spliffs.

This one would be good... of course, it was the easiest one to grab off of the site. Basically, DA's layout, but replacing the DYRL Hikaru with a Roy 1S.
-
Hmmm... I was under the impression the box was for SDF and the movie... Either way, I'd say the best bet is to go with the classic Skullfocker... it's the same either way.

I would love it also if Yamato would squeeze down the size of their boxes but where did you guys equate smaller boxes to cheaper shipping costs? The cardboard is very thin and so is the vacuum formed plastic tray. I think the weight reduction is negligible. Perhaps a saving of 200-300 grams per item at the most. The post office here charges packages by weight at 0.5 KG intervals with a max size per container restriction. I guess for suppliers, it would be cheaper since they can squeeze in more items per container and the sheer volume density would decrease imported prices, but for buyers who buy one at a time, it won't be that much. It would cut down on shipping because the boxes are smaller, thereby there would be more boxes per case... or at least smaller cases. Weight is not the only issue in shipping. Size of the box is also very important. I know for a fact that if online retailers here in the US could cut their shipping costs, our buying costs would be lower. Same thing with the yen rate. True, buying directly from the HK, shipping wouldn't be THAT much cheaper, if you're only buying one item... but over the long run, these things add up. I personally would love it if we could shave ANY sum off of the price tags of these 1/48's... and I think most here agree with me.

That's Van Halen II, Isamu, those were the Roth days, and that was Van Halen, not Van Hagar. i know duke, i was just making a joke!! they should have stayed with Diamond Dave!!! The funniest thing to me is I almost said something about "not Van Hagar" in my original post... it just fits the profile of the "Van Halen Rocks!" mullet dude... Perhaps because I used to work in a grocery story with him. And his attempt at a mustache.

Nice work, DA... But I also agree with Mechamaniac... there should definitely be a good Hase valk on there... on the top of the box would work nicely, since most of those shots are compositioned laterally. Just catching up on the discussion here, definitely getting more interesting. If you need any Photoshopping done, I'll be happy to help for free. Unfortunately, I don't really have any Macross art other than the original DVDs themselves and a reprint of Designworks and Perfect Memory. Also, when you do find who's got the art, there are some definite rules on how to scan good images... though most mistakes could be corrected in Photoshop, it just makes the whole process more difficult and less "perfect". Also it doesn't cost much at all to throw a CD-Rom with bigass scanned images in the mail... that's probably going to be the easiest way to get the scanned art to the photoshoppers and back to whosever putting it all together, and back to Senor Champagne.

Definitely a video classic... I'd put it up there with the aforementioned Kentucky Fried Movie (Big Jim Slade!), the Airplane! flicks, Top Secret, and Hollywood Shuffle. It's a shame that stupid comedy isn't nearly this funny anymore. Scary Movie, etc... they just plain suck compared to the quality of films like these. Too pop cultury and too limited to playing down to 12 year olds.

I would personally love it if Yamato used smaller boxes... the break in shipping costs alone would be worth it. Much less what it's done to my attic full of toy boxes.
-
Even though I'd never buy it, because I really don't care about the pilot figs... Wouldn't it be way cool if they made a bloody dying Roy?
-
Heh... you can't SEE the pilot with the GBP on anyway. Just pretend it's a TV Hikaru if it's not. Either way, I already got the 1/60 VF-1J Super and my 1/60 VF-1D stole his fast packs... so I'm definitely getting the GBP armor by itself.
-
I'll be getting them. I specifically did NOT get the 1/60 M&M's, the Low Viz (I don't want non-canon valks), the Hikaru 1S (just too similar to what I already have), in order to save for these, which I figured were coming soon. Other 1/48 VF-1 valkyries I would definitely buy: VF-1D Cannon Fodder 1A VT-1 Super Ostrich VE-1 Elintseeker GBP I probably wouldn't buy: Max DYRL 1S (same reasons as Hikaru 1S) Kakizaki TV 1A Max TV 1A (just not a big fan of the TV 1A paint jobs) So I'm still a fish on a hook... but I am somewhat selective. I'll let you guys keep the Q-Rau. I want 2 seater 1/48's!

LOL... totally agree with you. It's still the best EVA toy ever produced... great articulation, die-cast content, sculpt, accessories... as much as I love EVA, this is the toy to have. But I would scream to heavens with praise if it was at least 10" tall... it would be easier to pose, easier to access the cool tiny features like the entry plug... I'd pay twice as much for one right now. So, like Mechamaniac said... it's a great toy, but not my perfect one. What can I say, size apparently does matter. -
whst woudl you have done in his place. you have jsut invested alto fo money into 3 series which you cnat; air becuase they are too short. 1: sit on them and loose alot of money possibly loos eyrou job. etc. 2: try to salvage wh tyou can and get the sereis out so yoru family and yor money will nto go homless. are you the loosers who tell criples to learn how to walk or blind people how to see. yeah. make fun of my handycap. Good question... I have absolutely no idea what I would have done in Carl's position. But that's not really the issue. The issue was about Robotech, and I am merely voicing my opinion on the cohesiveness of Robotech. I believe it was quite on topic for the thread. Sorry if it offends you, but try not to keep picking at me about it. First you misunderstood my point, now you are just arguing with me. It's a big world and we are all entitled to our own opinion of Robotech, amongst other things. As for your handicap, I wasn't aware that you had any... my sincere apologies on the matter. But if you get snippy, expect others to get snippy back. Nobody here can really "see" anyone else, so I don't know what your handicap may be. Maybe if you let people know, we would understand why you type as you do. Dig? Now let's all hug and forget about it.

What is your Metal Gear code name?
Blaine23 replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Campbell: "Your code name for this mission will be Grandmaster Snake" Mine is actually pretty cool... I feel like 50% Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and 50% Snake-eyes from GI Joe. It's a much cooler name than I deserve. -
macek was dubbing macross as macross until revell made them clal it robotech. learn your history. Calling it "Robotech" doesn't make it any less than Carl Macek's goofy-ass vision of melding 3 very different anime series into one barely coherent story. So, when I say "vision" of Robotech, I meant Carl's bad idea, not the name itself. Revell could have made him call it "Tales of Giant Monkey Balls" and it would still be a bad idea, understand? And before you tell people to learn their history, learn to spell. Or type. Or whatever it is that makes you say "clal".

Wow... not Macross and it's a combining mecha series? Interesting... if not the stuff that fanboy dreams are made of.
