Harmony Gold & Toynami releasing DYRL? Toys
Blaine23 replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Knock yourself out... I dream about fire and eating people. LOL... And doorknobs... don't ever forget the doorknobs, A1. And Rocco - I imagine this will go alot like the Sunwards thing... unless this is official Big West licensing, that Robotech.com page will disappear and Tom Bateman and Co. won't say another word about it. Besides, chatter's fun. We like chatter. -
Who would you want to date on valentine's day ?

I'll skip all the "I have a real girlfriend" and "Britney Spears!" BS... I'd pick Myung. She's into music and she puts out. -
I actually like that idea alot... it covers up a lot less of the side image of the SDF this way. Fixed again.
-
who/where was 'bolton' ? Michael Bolton was his character's name in one of my favorite movies - Office Space - does this jog your memory? He played a computer expert (surprise!) on 24 the other night.

I remember that scene, though it was far too brief. Her and Keira Knightley were about the only thing that kept my attention... But I knew I was going to have to see it after my g/f fell in love with the trailer. It's british and a romantic comedy w/ Grant and Firth... I had no chance.. Her small part in Old School was quite excellent as well. Skimpy (or no) clothes = terrific Elisha Cuthbert performance. Did anybody see this report of Kiefer trying to be a real life badass? Eonline

Harmony Gold & Toynami releasing DYRL? Toys

I see it putting pressure on BW to finally let Yamato deal with HG to release their DYRL? merchandise internationally. Edit: shoulda' read the next post. If that equals to cheap Yamato toys with Macross on the box.... then it equals to happy fans. Now... if that means Yamato toys with Robotech on the box.... then it equals to fans carrying pitch forks and torches. I wouldn't care if Yamato toys were sold at domestic prices, even if it did say Robotech on the box. Hell, I wouldn't care if it said Strawberry Shortcake. As long as the toy inside was the same as the Japanese versions. The only tox boxes I really dig are the old Taka/Bandai and the Hasegawa boxes. Yamato boxes are kinda dull and don't feature that groovy old skool art. -

If you're a Seinfeld fan, Max... you really, really ought to check out Curb Your Enthusiasm. If you don't have HBO, you can rent the first season on dvd at Blockbuster. Larry David is very responsible for what was funny on Seinfeld... the guy is awesome. When he left Seinfeld, the show started to go downhill. Also, forgot to mention another kickass comedy show... the Office. Do yourselves a favor and rent/buy the 1st season on DVD or watch it and season 2 on BBC america. There's a reason it beat Friends and everyone else at the Golden Globes. It's not your typical crappy dry British sitcom, either, so don't be put off by it's British-ness. But you want to make sure you watch it before NBC makes their "American" version next year. That never works well. -
Dude, I screamed "Michael Bolton is on 24!" as soon as I saw him. My g/f ran in the room, all "WTF?" On my continuing Elisha Cuthbert update... saw a free preview of The Girl Next Door last night. Wow. She totally and completely makes up for her crapass wig on this season of 24. And surprisingly, she wasn't the only thing good about the movie. It was a charmingly funny flick. Very much like Risky Business, which is a good thing, since teen sex comedies were just better back then. Not a perfect movie, but definitely better than anything I've seen since the first American Pie. Did I mention how freaking hot she is in every minute of the movie? She doesn't get nude, but it's the best our little Kim Bauer has looked on film yet. Now I'm going to go back to imaging she's a porn star and she lives next door to me while I pretend to work.

Nah, Ken's not gay, he's just the prototype metrosexual. All I can say is that I've seen the way Ken looks at Barbie's teen sis, Skipper... the lingering glances, the shared jokes, always touching... She's cute, funny, and she's perpetually 18... can't say I blame Ken for trying to free up his options. If Skipper doesn't wanna play, there's always Theresa, or he could get really spicy and try out Barbie's ethnocentric variants. You got one guy doll and approximately 8000 females. And women expect monogamy from Ken? This has been coming for a long time, folks.

Y'know... all of this has me remembering... Does anybody here remember on the old boards when Jerry from VF1X (correct me if I've got the customizer wrong, but I thought it was him) customized all of those series 1 superposeables as DYRL variants? He made kick ass renditions using model kit armors of the Super valk, Strike valk, Ostrich, and Elint... I tried to find pics, but vf1x.com is down now. I just remember us laughing that HG would never ever be able to do any DYRL valks. Apparently HG saw them too. -
That MW logo was kinda bugging me... so I tweaked it a bit. I'll submit this as my final box design/idea... obviously piggybacking on all of DA's hard work.
-
At MM's request, I cleaned the dirty stink of "robotech.com" watermark off of the design. Just in case any of you are wondering, this art, which we're calling "Choice 3" is NOT Robotech art. It is Macross art that HG has perverted to its own use, so don't let that cloud your judgement too much. You can see the original here on the main site. Anyway, I think they're all great choices... the only reason I like Choice 3 is that is looks a nice artistic version of the SDF from the TV series and I like the dramatic angle it's shown at.
-
Heh, you forgot to use your "[shawn] [/shawn]" tags in your lament for the main site, DA. I can see your point about losing some of the boosters and arms, but I still think it makes for a better representation of the SDF than the other pic. It's just too dark and the SDF looks so flat from that perspective. Of course, I'm always thrilled with my own photoshop work.... for a few hours at least. I just realized that I do have Robotech Art 1 handy on the shelf at home. I'll scan through it tonight and see if there's anything else we might want in it.

Am I the only MW'er that posted their photo?

Well... to be fair... RGB jpgs are the web standard, for the exact reason that PC's all over the world don't recognize them (that's a whomping majority of computer users, for all you Mac elitists). That and the fact that CMYK is a standard for printing... who the hell is going to print a crappy 72 dpi web image? RGB is smaller and looks better on screen. blah, blah, blah, graphics web techonology goobledy-gook, blah blah... The funny thing is, you can open them just fine on a PC if you have photoshop. But of course, you can't get it to photoshop if IE won't recognize it in the first place. -
I totally agree with the easiest being choice 1 (particularly since you've got the poster)... But if we wanted to use this image, we could use Paul's idea of tying the art together to the other sides of the box in order to make the image fit better, ratio-wise. I think this looks pretty good -
-
Defintely Choice 3 for the back image, for me. It shows the SDF better, plus it's got little valks... does anybody have any idea where to come up with the image other than the Robotech web version? Aside from the watermark, the previously mentioned DPI problem would be a bitch.

I cant see the pic at work, Ill have to look at home. jk BTW damn Im good lookin Yeah, that is one awesome Red X you have there, Whitedrew. Huh... it works fine for me. Hmmm... it isn't a CMYK jpg is it, Drewby? Most computers will only display jpgs if they're RGB. I've noticed Mac users here don't seem to have a problem viewing it... I'm on IE 6.0 and I'm not seeing a thing. If you've got a decent photo editor on your ma-cheen you should be able to change it to RGB, save it, and post it up so that we can gawk at your ladyfriend's roundness. Just guessing, though... it's a classic Mac/PC jpg error, so I thought it might be the culprit. -
The Simpsons Movie is finally in the works.
Blaine23 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'll pick 3 shows I think are currently funnier than the Simpsons... Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Scrubs. But that's just me. And I only get weepy when I watch Tootie, Nat, and the gang, obviously. -
Make sure that you (GENTLY!) push the backpack up until it settles into its fixed position. The middle piece of the backpack hinge should be firmly perpindicular to the backplate. You shouldn't have any problems after that, unless you lean the 1/60 backwards... unlike the 1/48, there's nothing holding it upright other than the bottom hinge.

Congrats, but maybe next time you can add to your already existing thread instead of making a whole new one. Either that, or I'm gonna start posting my lunch decisions here everyday! Guys, I decided to go with the Grilled Chicken Salad!

Welcome to the board and congrats on your kickass new toy... As for transformation guides - click here for a transformation guide as video files - Video Transformation Guide for the 1/48 It's a big download, but it's absolutely worth it to hear G-funk say "miss-aisles" over and over again. Also, with the FAST/Strike pack, you might want to check out this thread here - 1/48 FAST pack thread. I know I had some trouble figuring it out the first time I transformed mine...

The Simpsons Movie is finally in the works.
Blaine23 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Eh. The Simpsons did quite a bit to challenge the idea of an animated sitcom being good. Then it went on to challenge ideas about what any sitcom could do - pushing limits, etc. I'd love for it to be great, personally... but I don't really see any need for an entire movie. For one thing it brings up the age old question - Do we make a movie for the superfreak obsessive fans who have memorized all 2 billion characters from the show and reference the hell out of past episodes... or do we make a movie that even the most casual fan can enjoy? They'll say they've managed to do both... and it's usually never the case. -
Harmony Gold & Toynami releasing DYRL? Toys
Blaine23 replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Is there ever - really and truly - a need to be an ass? Don't get dispirited, Bud... I wasn't trying to attack you, I just wanted to point that there's a lot of difference between Toynami and Yamato, beyond their respective affiliations to HG and BW. So, no worries... relax and breathe deep. Sorry to offend. As for Shaggydog - I won't disregard your post... I should have clarified that Toynami is WAY below Yamato in terms of popularity amongst the folks here. Mine included. Your opinion is your own. -

Funny Yamato does the same thing... repaint... after repaint at least yamato hasn't realsesed that 3 laser headed freak of nature thing, oh, and their products dont suck true but all Macross VF-1s are repaints. and to imply Toynami is the only one doing it is kind of unfair when Yamato has been doing it for the last 3 years. Not that I'm complaining, I love my 1/48s. Gee I must have missed the part where Toynami designed 2 completely different scales and designs for transformable VF-1s, not to mention accurate representations of the anime they're based on. Not to mention that the sculpts were never, ever thought to be a "clone" of an older toy or model's design. Not a very fair comparison. Toynami has been a pretty crapass toymaker and we all know it. -

doing/saying something stupid. Or a genuine enthusastic response to an underappreciated 80's sitcom...
