That is simply beautiful... And I'm so not a fan of the Minmay guard paint scheme.

problem with these games is that once u have finished it u can do it again in like 2 minutes, like myst if u just wrote down the the combo for the fireplace u can win in like 5 minutes I'm not talking necessarily about repeat playability... any good puzzler is pretty useless once you know the answers to the riddles... I just wish there were more that involved actual deduction, word puzzles, etc... pointing and clicking is not thinking.

I'm sad to say that my heart leapt a little too... when I was under the impression that McFarlane would finally devote a series to hillbillies, mullets, and inbreds. How freaking awesome would that be? They could come with little shotguns, beer hats, dip spit cups... Man, I've lived in the South far too long.

I'm all for parody and homage... but featuring mecha from another property on the freaking cover of a comic... is neither. Particularly since it's not a small thing hidden... it's easily the size of any of the main character's upper bodies. Sure, artists have long histories of sneaking in background characters, etc into the buried comic panels... but putting something like that on the cover is like advertising that it will be part of the story inside. And how freaking disconcerting is it to see Mac Plus mecha fitted in to a Mospeada collage? It doesn't even fit well. It's definitely not parody... because, well... it's not intended for humor. Unless you count watching Macross fans freak out about it... then, that's probably funny.

Hey G-money.. Great front page update... it's nice seeing something different! Particularly Mac 7. Also, on your Model Graphix 2004, it's listed as March 2002, instead of March 2004. Keep 'em coming... I can't wait for the reviews.

Jeez... the guy's had the toy for a few hours and he's already itching to tear it apart. You modelling types... Just kidding with you... hope you enjoy your first 1/48. You know what's even better than buying your first? Buying your second, and third...

Got it... not too bad... but I always hate that games like this invariably are about having the patience to click and click and click until your mouse hits the spot that'll find something. Now Myst was a cool game when it game out.

Hopefully someone has dropped Animeigo a helpful email regarding this then. they can stop the stores in the usa/canda form selling them. but it will be hard to stop their imports trough other means. They can, and HG might, but Animeigo? Probably not. Just like Bandai hasn't really done anything about the HK boots of R1 Gundam W, G Gundam, or Stardust Memory. Nope... but Animeigo has threatened legal action in the past, which was enough to keep most bootleggers at bay. Apparently that is no longer the case.

Robotech/Macross Article In FEB Newtype
Blaine23 replied to BFG-1 Gigan's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wow... a whole sentence? That's way over the norm. You've picked a very unpopular anime to champion, my friend. -
Just wanted to add that you won't get English subtitles on the R2 dvd as well. The Perfect Edition is as good as it gets - currently - for Macross DYRL fans in the US.

Lift on the bootlegging/pirating ban
Blaine23 replied to Duke Togo's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
No, of course not. But if you were to go and ask them where to buy it, and they reply publicly on the board, then they should be reprimanded. See the difference? I'm all for the discussion. I'm not for publishing bootleg distro links. I see the difference in that - that is what you are comfortable with. No offense, Stamen, but that's not what I'm trying to determine here. Me, I don't care whether or not someone tells me which website, links to it, or provides a link to eBay auction either. I don't care if any of us on the board makes his living selling cheap HK dvds in his van down by the river. I simply don't care whether or not it bothers you, or anyone else other than Shawn, Graham, and the mods who run this board. Right now there is a thread in the Movies and TV area about a bootleg version of the Animeigo boxset. It has a link. There is a bootleg toy thread in the Toys area. It has a link. In the past we've discussed everything from Joon's valks to Macross 7 sets by FX and MI. Who are we kidding here? If there is a policy on not posting info about bootlegs, I'd like to know what it is. Because it's evidently a very selective policy. Basically if you catch a mod on a bad day, then it goes away. That's silly. Let's not litter this thread with anti-HG war slogans and everyone's personal opinion on the ethics/morality involved in HK dvd/toy purchasing... let's get some official word here on whether or not the "policy" regarding discussion of bootleg merchandise even exists. I submit that we discuss what we want freely. If we're going to put in place a policy, then I submit that we ban people spouting their freaking personal ethics of bootleg purchases in every thread that remotely goes near the subject. All it does is cause arguments. Let's face it, folks. Much of the Macross merch that is out there isn't legitimate BW product. And it's been that way for a long, long time. Why shouldn't we discuss it anyway? -
If you want the most content, you should take a remedial english course and learn how to read the books. You can even splice in your own playmates into the pages, if it helps. As for the Hobbit, I'm sure they'll figure out the rights situation soon enough. The amount of money such a release could pull should grease the wheels of negotiation fairly well. It definitely did the trick for Spiderman, which was trapped in rights-hell for decades.

i dont know i think we've been pretty good thus far in coming to general consensus. we would have to know how much demand is needed to keep the prices in line with original estimates I'm teasing you guys, Disco. But there's an element of truth there too. Some Macross fans are more into the story, others the "robot" action, others the more militaristic "plane" elements... some dig the music more than anything else. It's a bit difficult to pin down a single type of fan of Macross. There are those who collect artbooks and those who are exclusively fans of the toys. I think it's really great... but since Macross is over 20 years old, it has generated countless amounts of source art... and it near impossible to come up with one box that'll please every type of fan, even here at Macrossworld.

Actually, they've bootlegged Robotech itself, you can find the info an old thread in Other Anime. Which is kinda funny, considering what that Robotech is often considered to be less than "pure" itself. Either way, I've always understood that the reason the Animeigo Macross hasn't been ripped already was from the bootleggers fear of Animeigo, not HG. Apparently Animeigo takes their hard work very seriously and has threatened severe legal action more than a few times to HK DVD makers who were producing rips of their other work.

Lift on the bootlegging/pirating ban

Weird area here... I agree that we should be able to discuss whatever the hell we want, when we want to - as long as it relates to Macross. I don't think we should do so as any sort of "retribution" or "response" to HG's current situation with the DYRL superposeables, etc... I could give a rat's hairy ass about whatever HG does... it should have no bearing on what we can and can't discuss. I just think we are all citizens and can discuss what we choose. We all know that bootlegs are there and I'd hate to see us restricted because Macrossworld wants to be the Politically Correct Police, in regards to bootleg merchandise. Some people don't want to discuss bootleg quality. That's fine for them, but there is no legal reason that we should not allow it to exist. A good example - I think there's no one better to ask about various Macross 7 DVD bootlegs than some folks here on this board. Should I be banned or reprimanded for it? -
Hee... vampires, undead, my parents... the only real supporters of full-screen. If I have to explain to my mom why "those silly black lines" are there one more time...

All I'm saying is that if some whack artist threw in an X-wing as an "homage" or "parody", Lucasfilm would smack them around like a crackwhore. Either way, I think this just proves the point that HG, as a company, are inept and woefully underqualified to handle any part of the Macross license. If what Graham suspects is true, regarding BW and HG "working things out"... then we can only pray that HG will import BW approved product from Japan for resale. Because anything they do on their own is so flawed and obviously based on someone else's work anyway.

Definitely looks great, guys. Thanks again for playing with tinting, Rohby. Some of us (okay me) aren't great with paint, etc... that's why I buy toys instead of models in the first place. I'm sure they'll come out great.
-
I'm definitely excited to see Noel's wonderfest coverage... every year he does such a great job of showing us everything we wish we could be there to see ourselves. Very cool stuff, indeed.
-
So, there you have it, if there is enough demand for each type it looks as though we can have one case for the Mech heads out there, and one for the art lovers too. Hopefully, now we can come to a consensus! Thanks guys.... Word... Paul's on the money. There is really no satisfying this group.

Lift on the bootlegging/pirating ban
Blaine23 replied to Duke Togo's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
I believe that falls under distributing bootlegs, whether or not you are selling. Whatever the case, I believe this is in bad taste, the thread should be killed, and BUYING OR SELLING BOOTLEGS OR LINKING OTHERS TO THOSE WHO DO should never be brought on the boards. If you mention you happen to see a series through bootleg, that's OK. Telling others how to come across said bootleg is not. First of all... it's been on the boards for years. We've all discussed bootleg toys... there's a thread about one on the first page in Toys as we speak. We've discussed bootleg DVDs at great length as well. We've had threads regarding the different Macross 7 sets, DYRL, Zero, etc. I agree with Togo and AgentOne. There's absolutely nothing illegal about discussing them here and I think we should lift this ban, because it's half-hearted at best. Now certain people, like Stamen, obviously have a moral/ethical problem with it. That's his choice. I think constricting the site to please the complainers is a cop out. If someone doesn't agree with unlicensed product, he/she can make a choice to stay uninvolved. Basically, let's not let paranoia and "moral majority" run the boards. Obviously, it's Shawn & Graham and the mods' decision... but this is my opinion. -
sniff... sniff... Relax, folks. I think everybody here really appreciates what Rohby and EXO are doing. I know I do.
-
Gorgeous work, DA... If I wasn't such a mecha-loving goob, I'd pick that over any of them thus far.
-
They look good... super white.. Any chance you can snap a pic of some on one of the DYRL valks? That's mainly what I'm buying them for.
-
Well, to be honest, we could pull up different Hase art everyday - because they're all so damn great. In the interest of trying to make the best Macross box that will please all of the members here as well as other Macross fans... I think the Skull One is definitely the choice to please just about everybody.
