Yeah, it's the only weak point on what I consider to be a pretty perfect toy... I'm guessing the designers must have thought the toy needed such joints to enable Spidey to stand and pose. Because every other joint (and there are so many) is awesome and completely flexible. But the sculpt just plain rocks.

Zhang Ziyi would be a cool rei....but MINUS the blue hair man....if its gonna be live action...anime haircolors don't mix. No, Rei MUST have blue hair. Part of her character. It's the same thing as giving Asuka black hair instead of her auburn hair. It's just not the same. I don't know that I'd agree with that - and I'm a huge EVA fan. It may be part of the iconic look of the anime... but Rei, or anybody's hair color is hardly part of the character. Sure, it ain't the same - but if I was making this movie, I wouldn't want to spend millions only so people can rag on one of the character's goofy looking attempt at real life anime hair. Sorta like Storm's terrible wig in the first X-men movie. It detracts from the film by breaking the suspension of disbelief. And I'll go on record as saying as much as I'd like to have Natalie Portman next to me wearing Asuka's red plugsuit... she'd be a terrible choice for the part.

I agree w/ EXO, but you could work out a compromise. Why not sell it, but split the difference in value with the original seller. Because it is a pretty dick move to just sell and make the money that he could have made because he was helping you, a board friend, get something you said you wanted. This way everybody has a clear conscience.

You guys kill me... seriously, you really do make it sound like you are struggling with crack, not toys. Buy what you want, when you can afford it. If nothing Yamato is offering over the last few months is what you want, then don't buy it. Wait until they make something you like. Sometimes I wonder if you guys are just addicted to open packages from UPS.

Dude... go to a Star Wars forum or something. Search the web. Don't pop in here every week and ask a Star Wars question that you could easily find out yourself... probably more acurately, somewhere else. While we're at it, can someone please give me a list of all U.S. Presidents from east of Missouri, in chronological order, followed by their favorite meal and political party? Oh, and throw in a pie chart of every species of fish ever noted, sorted by color, weight, and taste? Could you guys do that please? I'm in a hurry.

Wow. That is just amazing stuff. I hope somebody can repost that information here. Hee... maybe Harmony Gold will allow the faithful to touch Carl Macek's pit-stained undershirt from 1985... oooh! aaaah!

Looks like a chop. yep... except, really, really, really, "look-I-just-got-a-copy-of-Photoshop" bad. The internet is a silly place.
-
Yep, Internet Explorer (PC) will not show CMYK jpgs. Most PC programs won't show them at all, except Photoshop and a few others. It's a Mac vs. PC thing. If you're using photoshop, I recommend the "save for web" feature. Makes compressed, quality images that anyone can see. BTW - very, very professional work, LSB. Great designs, but I'm most knocked out by your style. Great work! Show us more.

Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st
Blaine23 replied to Blaine23's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Keep in mind, you're addressing the same group that loves the OT, but hates the SE's and Episodes I and II, loves the original Matrix but hates Reloaded and Revolutions, then loves SDF Macross and DYRL but hates 7 and will claim to hate Zero later. You've pretty much got me there... except I'm only letdown by Reloaded, hate Revolutions and I love Mac 7 and Zero. I honestly don't even mind the SE trilogy, I just think it's lame Lucas isn't releasing the OT too. But I am way thrilled about the commentaries... particularly the Kasdan/Kirshner portion. Good news, BSU! -
I ran into the same problem with the SDF image we're using on one of the DVD custom boxes... A good lithmus test is that if the image looks hand painted and it's actually good... it is probably of Macross origin. If it looks out of proportion and poorly colored, it's probably Comico's original, and if it looks super duper Photoshopped, it's most likely Yune and Co.'s work from the Robotech comics, products, etc. It's actually quite easy to see the difference after you look at it for a while.

Actually one episode from this season was repeated, which worked out for me since the first time they showed it the signal was screwy from time to time, which was corrected when they re-broadcast it again the next week. Well, for godsake, don't tell her that! You know how hard it is to win an argument with your live-in girlfriend? But wouldn't it be funny if they did really bad flashback episodes like they used to on bad sitcoms? "Hey Tony? You remember that time, a few hours ago, when you got shot in the neck?" "Uh yeah, I remember... I'm still in alot of pain, Jack... but this demerol's kickin' in pretty good now... I remember like it was just a few minutes ago..." Cue wavy lines that signal the beginning of a cheesy flashback sequence...

You could use a cloth-based gun strap from one of the billions of 12" soldier doll M-16's, etc... But I'm not a big fan of the idea of a giant gunstrap for a mech.. much less one made of anything other than some sort of metal link or cabling.
-
Yup, too bad I missed the first 20 minutes of it. but I guess I was filled in as I watched the rest of the episode. Can't wait till next week! Heh... I'm in the same boat... My girlfriend actually took it off the DVR record list... she said, "I thought it was a repeat... it said something about how CTU quaraantines the building... and they did that already" So I had no episode to watch when I got home from work. This lead to arguement about how 24 doesn't show repeats - and the need to really lockdown a building where a deadly virus has just been released into the air conditioning... Anyways, I read the recap and now am inching my way through downloading the episode via BitTorrent. And she's been banned from the DVR remote indefinitely.

Well... it IS viewable on the batmanbegins official website and AICN has a story on it. Personally, I'd like it to be THE batmobile of the movie... I don't want him to have too much crap... it weighs down the believability of the story, IMHO.

Wow... I dig the hell out of those designs, G. Especially the GBP-like shoulder swivel missle packs. In my perfect world, toys of several different armor concepts would be available for all VF variants. I like the idea of modifying basic valks with tons of varying armor types.

Word. Go see Girl Next Door (I actually got to see it a few months early) - really funny movie and no bad Kim hair.... plus lots and lots of skin. Yay!
-
I agree with Max, except the only thing I wish is that the SOC EVAs were bigger. I'd happily pay twice as much for a version of these toys that was around 10" tall. But you're not going to find any better EVA toy than the SOC. Pretty incredible stuff.

I think you're thinking of George Sohn, who used to work with Toycom/Yamato and now is Toynami - not Steve Yun, who is the webmaster at Robotech.com. Tense days they were indeed.

Peter Jackson has cast the male lead of King Kong
Blaine23 replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I love Jack Black, but I can easily see why people don't. I get his humor and it makes me laugh. In others it just drives them nutty. How could anyone dislike the man who brought us such songs as Sasquatch with Tenacious D? Got me. I'm not sure if I'd call his role the male lead, either. He's really the heel of the piece - at least he is in the 76 version w/ Jessica Lange - maybe this version will have a heroic male lead, like Jeff Bridges was in the 76 version. Either way, Kong is really the male lead of the movie. And at least Jackson's remake looks like it'll be fun. I only hope this version doesn't have a giant door built into the wall around the village. Why build a wall to keep Kong out but build a giant door in it? -
Sorry for the lack of updates - Like Dangard, I've had to wait on some art to arrive - one of which is in the book he's waiting on, the other would be the Hasegawa 1S image for the top of my box - the mech. Anyways, I just got some extra cash and ordered my own copy of the Hase kit, so it should be here in a few days and I can get to work on that image. BTW - if anybody wants a Hasegawa 1/72 kit when I'm done with it, let me know. I only bought it for the art, after I'm done abusing the box lid with my scanner it's up for grabs.

Heh... that'd just be a forum for David Hingten to rule with a cruel iron fist... I like the big thread idea as well... I once got suckered into a 20 post derailment about the definition of vernier before I realized I was way out of my depth and I pulled the escape lever.

I do likes 'em big, Shin... But I'll go on the record and say I'd be just as happy with a toy that was closer to around 12" tall in battroid (1/60 probably) and required no removable parts for transformation... and throw in the tampo printing while you're at it. That's a toy I'd pay over $100 for. All that being said, this 1/100 looks like a different toy for a different consumer... I'll reserve all judgement until I get one in my hands. And you can always add Mechamaniac to your list of people who like a big mecha toy.

Don Figueroa's Jetfire for Dreamwave comics
Blaine23 replied to Chuey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No, but if it's anything like the other Transfan Horror Stories™ you've told me then I'm scared to hear about it. I'm with you, BSU... I'm far too scared to know exactly what keeps Transfans up at night... But even an 11-year old me was somewhat put off by the complete difference between Skyfire the cartoon character and the snub nosed VF-1S sold to me as Jetfire. Maybe they were supposed to be retarded cousins? It was kinda like turning on the Dukes of Hazzard one day and finding those assclowns Coy and Vance sitting in the General Lee. That's not Bo and Luke! WTF? And yes, everything... everything relates to television I watched in the 80s. -
Eh... that depends on who Hanks and Allen signed contracts with. My bet is that Disney wouldn't proceed to try and make Toy Story 3 a theatrical release unless they had those locked up pretty tight under contract. Besides, this is a point of pride (or ego, at least), so my guess is that they'll try and throw enough money at Toy Story 3 to make it at least resemble the originals.

Don Figueroa's Jetfire for Dreamwave comics
Blaine23 replied to Chuey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I must admit that solves the Jetfire/Skyfire problem about as well as anything can be solved in the kooky Transformers continuity. Now, wouldn't it be great if Takara made a Masterpiece toy with that design?
