New Robotech Transformable Toy Coming...

Groovy. My bet is on Cyclones. -
Its not limited to OT.com. I've seen that nonsense on at least one all-purpose movie news website, in an editorial by the admin no less. Some people just need to get the hell on with their lives. Eh... I can kinda understand that, though. I mean, I could really honestly care less about whatever "digital enhancement" GL wants to do to his movies - if he only wasn't determined to erase the original films in the process. He could photoshop Tom Skerritt's onto Bea Arthur's body in the Holiday Special and I wouldn't care. He could throw in gangsta subtitles under Chewbacca in ESB and I wouldn't care. He could even have Obi Wan stop in the middle of ANH and deliver a 20 minute monologue about midichlorians and read from Dianetics and I wouldn't care. But the dude should just put the original movies out there just so some of us could watch the old movies as they were in the theater without resorting to piracy or even worse... VCR! And really, BSU... you're talking Star Wars here. "Get the hell on with their lives" could apply to 99.9% of SW fans, not just guys who don't dig digital Yoda.

The Maul fight in TPM is the single most redeeming feature of the movie itself... except for the Starwars logo. The Vader/Luke fights in ROTJ and ESB are my 2 and 3.

Geez. It does kinda suck to not be able to see what is so nostalgic... yet, sadly - I remember most of it.

That requires a pretty damned high level of hope, >EXO<...

Well, as long as we're making $hit up, I dreamt last night that Yamato was going to make 1/48 Elint and Ostrich, then join together with Bandai to finish the 1/55 reissues and stop by my house and make me a breakfast burrito. With cheese.

She is very attractive. But the accent and her character do kinda make me expect her to run around screaming, "A dingo ate my baby! A dingo ate my baby!"

I don't have so much a problem with the romance angle - I mean, this is a major television show packed with very good looking people - it's inevitable. I just think the show has focused too much on those 3 characters - to sometimes, less than thrilling results. I'd rather see more of Charlie, Locke, Hurley, Sun, Jin, Michael, Walt, etc. Sawyer in general just kinda bugs me... some eps he's written as a witty rake, the next he's just a pain in the ass, the next he's some kinda hardcore criminal. Bores me silly. Give the guy something to do other than hoard little bottles of airplane liquor and I might see a reason why he's a major part of every. damn. episode. Episodes with 40 minutes spent having Sawyer play "I got something you want, Kate... but I'm too sexy to give it to you..." could be quite a bit more interesting if they actually progressed the main story instead.

Revenge of the Sith ROCKED! (spoiler free)

I actually agree with you there - Fett's importance in light of the prequels seems a bit overwrought, to me. Before the prequels he was a dingy bountyhunter with a kickass character design - nothing more, nothing less. And I think the issue people had with his death, wasn't the Sarlacc - but the fact that a wild shot from a blinded Han Solo sent him to his relatively unimportant doom. The biggest problem I have with Star Wars EU (aside from the apparent lack of quality control) is that it does tend to make too much of minor characters... but I guess that's bound to happen when you have a franchise as big as SW. Hater - Ki Adi Mundi? I'd think I'd rather be called Conehead. -
So, you're saying that, in essence, they wander the universe like "Kane from Kung-Fu?" 'Spose it makes sense to Sam Jackson.

My wife is always bugged out about that too, >EXO<... she calls it "gimpy-eye" and refuses to look at Melissa Joan Hart because of it. Airwolf is pretty much classic Bellisario fare. Silly premise, very 80's. But it was fun seeing Jan Michael Vincent become a no-teeth crack addict in later life.

That's classic... awesome.

Eh... it's a cool concept and a well-made show. But I grow bored with the constant Kate-Sawyer-Jack meaningless plotlines and I'm even more bored with the continual lack of resolution. Cliffhangers are fun and all... but the show has gotten almost predictable in it's lack of actually telling a story.

Revenge of the Sith ROCKED! (spoiler free)

LOL... Point made... but c'mon... it's not as if they ever call her by name (whereas they say Death Star and Darth Vader about 8 million times)... do they? If they did, I'm sure I blanked it out as... uh, non important... which is kinda my point about the signifigance of her character to the grand scheme of things. Oh, come on... don't get too pouty. I was just messin' with ya. Actually I'm happy with Conehead guy's death. His was probably the best of the Jedis'. We got a reaction. We got a vain fight. We got an inevitable ganking. In fact, Blue chick's death should be a little more like Conehead's in emotion and effect. But like I said earlier, changes to her scene might make them too similar, so something's needed to set them apart. They're both background characters and they don't really matter except to illustrate that Jedis got whacked en masse. I seem to remember Conehead guy at least got to speak a few lines of dialogue - maybe that explains why more time was spent on his death. Thing is, I never thought she was all that, either in or out of makeup. "Hot" stays in quotes. I've always rolled my eyes at how enamored fans seem to be about the character. Yay, another busty blue tentacled chick. Woo. Could not care less. But I do give a damn about story telling, about cinematography, and about effective use of apparently successful character designs. And I do care about giving fans a real reason to care about a character besides the fact that she's nicely put together. Well... to be fair, she's better to look at than Conehead Guy, no? My question is why are we supposed to care about these ancillary Jedi all? I think they are essentially the same as Star Trek redshirts, ultimately. They stand around in the background, proving that the Jedi were numerous and varied, then they die. Point made. I'd say Lucas focused his efforts on storytelling and character designs on the characters that actually speak more than once or twice. This all very similar to the whining over Boba Fett's lame death in RotJ. Fans liked the character design and therefore thought he deserved better than his lame-o demise. They were wrong. Okay. Then please explain to me her signifigance in the context of the prequel movies. Why is she such a special Jedi? I can't think of a single reason. She dies a lame death in the movie, because she is NOT important. In EU comics, books... she might be... but the fact is Lucas didn't think much of her and she died like a really minor character should - very quickly. That's not bad storytelling, that's the difference between the real movies and the EU. -

Except it isn't, especially since we didn't even see the fight. Actually I assume they did put up a brief but vain fight-- I don't think they stood around while Vader cut them down. I imagine a few parries, some panicked running, and a few who stalwartly accepted their fate and stood in place. The scene would also have been less powerful if Anakin cut them all down while their backs were turned, playing Jedi tiddlywinks or something. In the end, a scene's power and significance often lies in the characters' reactions, and an attempt to put up a fight is just one way to convey and magnify their reaction. With Secura, we didn't get much reaction, and hence, weren't able to empathize and feel the sting as well as we might otherwise have. She remains "some hot twilek that died." Without having her be made more familiar to us... with no real sense of loss, her death is almost comedic. I know I almost wanted to laugh, and I think I heard a few chuckles in the theater. That certainly steals any "sting" we were supposed to feel. -Al Secura? That sounds like a new Hyundai, not a character. Twilek? See, you can tell you're a little too "into this" when you assume that people have any idea what the hell a "twilek" is and that her name is anything other than a prototype 4 door sedan. Who cares? The only reason you give a damn is because it was - underneath makeup and prosthetics - a hot chick. I don't see anybody crying about the big forehead guy's demise. This just further illustrates the fact Star Wars fans are a very lonely bunch. -

And completely and utterly useless. She didn't even get a chance to ignite her saber. I would have at least liked to have remembered her by something other than "hot" and "pathetically ganked". For all the attention given her character, for obvious reasons, it would have been nice if she'd actually been vaguely consequential and put up a slight if futile fight. -Al Hmmm... considering that she's known to me as "that blue jedi who was sorta hot and in the movie for all of 3 seconds", I didn't really feel let down by her getting killed so easily. Getting shot by your own soldiers is hardly "pathetically ganked" in my book, too. Her death was a better indicator of the surprising and downright evil of the Emporer's plan than it would have been if she'd died somehow being omniscient and fighting back. Hell, Yoda barely got out alive, same with Obi Wan. This is what makes the movie a tragedy, rather than a triumph for the Jedi. What you're proposing would've taken the sting out of the betrayal. It's a bit like saying, "Geez, there were like 15 of those little youngling Jedi's and only one Anakin... surely they could've put up more of a fight! Little wussies." -
I think the idea is that Obi Wan and Yoda had pretty much given up on restoring the Jedi order. Both likely realized that the Jedi's own actions and hubris led to their downfall, etc. Obi Wan likely hoped that Luke would live his life in anonymity on a backwards ass desert planet and die old, fat, and happy rather be killed by his father or become his father's apprentice. Anakin's betrayal pretty obviously wounded him to the point to where he blamed himself for Anakin becoming Vader - his dialogue in ANH seems to point that way. By the time Luke had gotten to Yoda, he was already using the Force and had destroyed the Death Star. Yoda had serious, serious misgivings about trying to train the whiner, but he had to realize he was pretty close to dying and decided he'd have to trust the Force and Luke's own good intentions. Works pretty well, if you ask me.

Please, please tell me that you are referring to RotJ and that he didn't do this again in RotS! H Again... and far worse. That bastard. Why must Wookies lack the respect they deserve? In ANH, Han gets a medal... Luke gets a medal... Chewie gets jack sh*t. Then Chewie gets iced in the EU books. Now Lucas has to keep messing w/ my furry brethren by showing them no respect... it ain't right. It takes a galaxy of millions to hold Chewie back! -
I don't really want to buy one of these things either... but I fear I might want to after GTA: Liberty City Stories comes out. A good friend of mine and I are actually talking about splitting the costs.

I think Raimi will have Church as Sandman and Topher Grace will be a setup for next film as Venom. I actually like the idea of a younger evil version of Venom as more of an anti-Spidey, rather than a lout like Brock. To me, a Venom that is less a thug with a demented suit is far more interesting than the comic version. Who knows what he'll do at this point... but if we gotta have Venom as villain in future movies, I'd rather it be something like this than a direct translation of the comic.
-
I'd say it's a far less obtrusive change... but to call it an excellent move is a bit too much. Empire was just fine the way it was. McDiarmid is a good actor, but there's no reason to replace the Emporer or change his dialogue in ESB. Hell, your average joe didn't even know it was a different actor. If by "well played" you mean, less annoying and intrusive than slapping Hayden's head in RotJ, well, I suppose...

Best part in the whole damn movie - Anakin's agonizing over whether to be a Jedi or a Sith and Padme's somehow "feeling" it. It's a small scene... but it's some of the best filmmaking Lucas has done since the Maul/Qui Gon/Obi Wan battle. Tension, pacing, etc. Worst part in the whole damn movie - Tough to say. I felt Dooku's demise was rather rushed and almost anti-climactic as it was shot. It should have been a more tense moment. Surprises - The "romance" between Padme and Anakin didn't bother me nearly as much as it has previously. They did a really good job playing out the 3rd rate Romeo & Juliet angle and it worked much better than the "falling in love" of AotC. Final thoughts - Wookies are f-ing awesome.
