Vincent: Ah, so by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true? Jules: Well we'd have to be talkin' about one charmin' motherf-n' pig. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charmin' than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'? Personality goes a long way.

You are correct that Yamato underestimated the Low-Vis's desirability, but it has nothing to do with customization. I'd wager that custom Low-Vis percentages are much, much lower than other, more "common" valks. Most customizers don't want to start on a valk that already costs $300 bucks to use as a template. I'll also guarantee you that almost all of the Low Viz will be found in their original condition (except the one JSA just ditched). The reason Yamato made it a Limited Edition is because it was not a "show canon" release and didn't have years of marketing behind it (basically everything they've released has been released before by Takatoku, Bandai, etc... Yamato simply didn't know if it would sink like a stone or sell out very quickly - which is what happened. As for the Star Wars rationale, I agree that it was Star Wars mania and crooked sellers that whipped up most of the frenzy - but I also stand behind my assertation that a "naive" factor amongst buyers made it possible. Alot of the guys collecting SW figs then weren't really that into toys, but got into it because they were 20+ year old fans of the original movies with money to burn. I think if some buttmunch put up his "super-rare defective hip VF-11B by Yamato" he'd get laughed at rather than start a variant stampede.

Well, does he look better now? Couldn't resist..

The Clone Wars according to Lucas
Blaine23 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The intros are neat... they definitely feel like Star Wars, which I guess makes sense because they are pretty much Lucas' outlines and writings... I don't like the Expanded Universe, novels and such, though. The hired gun novelists that write this stuff tend to make it feel very "not-Star Wars" to me. I mean, the novel's title - Shatterpoint says enough to keep me away. That sounds like any generic fiction book - definitely doesn't feel like any kind of Star Wars that I want to be into. Mace Windu was a happy Jedi... until he reached... the Shatterpoint! The older and more jaded I get, the more I just want to lock myself in a room with the original version of Empire Strikes Back and pretend that none of this stuff exists. -
Let's see...anything happening on this board tonite..... Guess not... I poop on this thread. Pin the damn thing and let it exist as some sort of a "moron-trap" for folks that like to bash it and those that can't help defending it. Call it the "Keith Zone" or "AgentONE's Macross 7 love-fest" It's done wonders with the HG/BW arguments over in the Other Anime forum. I mean, seriously people, do any of you honestly think that you'll convert the other side? Or do you just enjoy arguing?

For a second, I thought you meant, "24 year-old boxers" and that's just f-in nasty, man. You can't keep underwear that long! It's disgusting! Seriously, though... Energon looks like a lot of fun for kids' toys. Not my scene now, like most folks I like the G1 reissues, Masterpiece, Binaltech.... but if I was 11, these toys would be way cooler than the last 10 years worth of crappy Transformers, IMHO. So, let's all remember that these are great kids' toys and the more expensive stuff is for the older collectors. Doesn't mean you can't like both - but it's difficult to compare the different sensibilities and it's pretty pointless. I still love legos, but I don't compare them to the wood, tile and brick I use to build with now at home. Today's lesson: Perspective = good. 24 year-old boxers = gross as hell.

Heh... the funniest thing is that I look out of my window here at the office and see the new Games Workshop distribution center across the street. Now I imagine Hello Kitty pulling in their driveway in a pink tank every morning.

I always thought that was pretty much crap, anyway. It seems to me that Macross collectability is directly related to availability. The harder something is to get (Low Vis), the more it is worth. The easier something is to get (any 1/60 valk) the less it is worth. Which is really how it should be. I think the only reason the Version 1, Version 1.5, Version 2 YF-19's were priced differently is strictly based upon some folk's need to have the earliest possible version, thus the hardest one to get, making it worth more to them. I like it much better this way... maybe it has something to do with too much Macross products, as JSA said... but I doubt it. I never saw that sort of variant mentality on old Taka's and Bandai's - but you'll see it on old Star Wars figs quite often (big head Han Solo, etc). It's also difficult to call Star Wars figure collectors from a few years back "product-starved". I think it has more to do with a wider fan base and a dumber fan base, to be quite honest. Dopey Newbie collectors getting all excited because their Greedo fig has an arm attached backwards or something... they want to think it's an "instant collectible", unlike buying an older figure that already costs more than they would spend on their new hobby. I think most collectors going to the trouble to research and buy import toys from Japan is a bit past all that crap. Hopefully.

Hey Rob! Got my clear parts yesterday and they look great. Thanks again for the service and the fast delivery.
-
Um, I thought they had different heads? (Different number of antennae?) The Max VF-1S has a different head than the Max VF-1A, but they've already made a Roy VF-1S and a Hikaru VF-1S - so it really is a matter of taking one of the heads they've already made and putting it on a different body. Not even a repaint, really.

Doesn't Hello Kitty deserve a chance to kick some ass?

I really, really want to put UV lights on my valks, but that has to wait until after I put a 22" subwoofer, drop-down video display, an X-box, and big spinning rims on it. Pimp My Valk!

Anyone else around here ever noticed that all Macrossworld cosplay threads pretty much run the same course? 1. Post moronic, fat, bad costume, or wrong-gender cosplayer. 2. Everyone laughs heartily and expresses disgust. 3. Everyone then questions the need for cosplay 4. Someone invariably posts one of the 2 or 3 actually attractive female cosplayers that exist on this earth 5. Everyone drools and begs for more. 6. Eventually mods get sick of thread and lock it or folks run out of attractive cosplay females to post. We're currently in step #5.

Uhmm... the flashy magic stick doesn't make an appearance until episode #41. It's when Hikaru rides the space unicorn to the lair of the purple turtle to free the intergalatic rainbow that makes everyone sing and be happy. Don't force yourself to watch it... it's pretty obvious that you're not into it. I don't think M7 "was meant to be hated" (because that doesn't make much business sense), but it's definitely not something to watch if all of these things (flying girl, space monster) bother you to the point that you have to post about how you don't like it.

I like it, because it does look like something that belongs with the valk, unlike the other generic stands I've seen. All that being said, I'm only buying one. Partly because of the cost and partly because I wouldn't want all of my valks on stands anyway. And I'm using on a 1/48. To me it seems oversized with any of the smaller valks.

Damn. You even insulted his clothes. No offense, but do you think anybody but you really cares what you define as a collection? You know there are about a million different ways to say, "I don't necessarily like to collect multiples of the same toy, etc" without being a complete tool about it and questioning his spending and fashion sense. His fashion sense? What are you, one of the Queer Eye guys? It'd be my guess that got more than a wee bit of jealousy and if you had the ability to spend that sort of money - you'd spend it differently. Goody for you. But I really don't think that was called for at all.

In that case I agree with you , 1/100 scale valks like the VF-5000 or the Vf-4 will be a bit small on that scale , but just as with the VF-0 , other valks like the VF-14 or VF-22 will be all right , then again , we already know Yamato chose 1/100 as their base/mass produccion line , so a bigger scale line could be expected too , hopefully. Uhhh... no we don't. All we know is that that Yamato chose 1/100 for two products - the Macross Zero VF-0S and the VB-6 Koenig. Personally, I think Yamato only chooses scales based upon making a toy the size they want for the price point they want. They wanted a small VF-0 valkyrie... so they chose 1/100. They wanted a big transformable Koenig, 1/100. Let the scale thing go... measure your toys in inches like a real man.
-
Guess if "perfect" refers to the way the valkyries were designed to transform, the 1/48 is way out. Does anyone have any idea how the valks really transform in the aime ( diagram etc?) and will it be possible for a toy to follow strictly to that design? I rem see alot of designs to predict the 1/48 preferct transformation (there was a competition or something in the forum). From what I know, it should be similar to the swing bar of the bandais but the swing bars are "hidden". Any1 can provide any details? thanks Yup, on the old boards, the thread showed a swing bar that put the legs in place, then "released" them and retracted back into the back of the chestplate. Somebody 'round here might have the diagrams/pictures... but it's an incredibly inpractical way to design a toy, so it's doubtful we'll ever see it. To be honest, I prefer the 1/48 method anyway. The best two words to describe the transformation from the show - "anime magic"
-
Yep... I always expected Max to be the first 1/48 to fall victim to a monster HLJ clearance sale. I bought my Max 1/60 for about $27 during one of HLJ clearance deals. No such luck. The Max 1/48 is a contendah.

Have you seen all the Studio Ghilbi Films?
Blaine23 replied to JValk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I love me some Ghibli films... my G/F is even a fan after catching Mononoke on cable. She went with me to see Spirited Away in the theater. I've got the bootleg box and it is very good... highly recommended anime. Hopefully they'll collect the rest of the films in some kind of box. -
I am purposely waiting for the valk stand to come out so I can ship it with my Millia, which is waiting patiently for me. Saving money on shipping from overseas is good. The only question is... do I really have the patience when I know I have a perfectly good valk just waiting to be shipped to me? Am I that strong? We shall see.
-
That would a big "no" in response to that. Bandai never made any 1/55's other than the VF-1. All of the discussion above was about VF-1 valks. When you talk about valks other than the VF-1 - you basically have two options. Yamato's 1/72 Macross Plus line Bandai's 1/65 Macross 7 line At this point, to save from further confusion, I'd advise you to check out some sites that show the different line ups That "website" that I hear so much about... Macrossworld! and.. Valkyrie Factory... cause he's pretty much got one of everything... except newer stuff. Look at the different toys and you'll probably see most of what you need to know. The term "perfect transformation" is a bit flawed, as nothing is really perfect... but feel free to ask any other questions about removable parts, etc - once you've figured out which valks you're asking about.
-
i often wonder the same thing dude... My guess would be that really hot girls don't sit around and watch Tron, you dummies.
-
No, they really aren't that good. They're better. Save your money and skip two smaller, crappier toys, then go buy a 1/48 VF-1 and some FAST packs. You won't regret it.

I thought that's where you kept him? Keep nothing! I can't keep him out of there! He keeps telling me he's looking for "VHS copies of the Snorks cartoon." The really sad thing is that I actually found the VHS Snorks collection in your basement, BSU... right next to your MIB collection of My Little Ponies. I won't comment on your collection of children's shoes, though... very odd, indeed. I just like cold dark places... the sun - it hurts poor Smeagol.
