Macross 7 Sucks! Macross 7 Rules!
Blaine23 replied to Blaine23's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
I see what you mean, but I think that would only turn the Newbie thread into the pinned Macross 7 debate thread that I was requesting. And that would basically ruin the Newbie thread, which serves a useful purpose as it is. -
Macross 7 Sucks! Macross 7 Rules!

I can see where you're coming from, Roy. This current thread is basically just a newbie saying "I don't like Macross 7!", but in the past we've had many more love/hate bashes that start from a simple question about M7. That's basically more of what I think a pinned thread would avoid. Basically, I can guarantee you that if I waited a few weeks for the current thread to die off and posted a direct, simple Macross 7 question, like "Is Basara a better pilot or singer?" and it would turn into a bash before one page was through. If we had a pinned thread, then in theory all that crap would hopefully stay there. And as for Dare's idea of making "one well thought out" bash/defense posts... c'mon... who are you kidding? You let me know when two posts will totally cover an issue and everybody will agree to it. That's just a fantasy, unfortunately. I'd get sick of seeing such a thread 24/7 too... but I'm more sick of the way it is now. -

Is it just me or is Ram-Man gazing at that buff moron more than little too lustfully? -
Dude... it's just like the Running Man! Or Battle Royale! I would never do such a thing to kids. I keep the kids out back in a nice fenced in area outside and I bring them water and food.

I've made my point in the current "why is M7 retarded?/No it isn't, you just don't get it!" thread - here. But since this is where offical request are made and answers given - I'm starting this thread to ask why we don't just pin the M7 argument permanently in the Movies and TV series section. The argument isn't nearly as heated as the old HG wars used to be (to 99% of us), but it's just as prevalent and it does seem to be eternal. With the ease of availability that the HK DVD boots have given the series to newcomers, I imagine we'll be seeing the same thing over and over again for centuries. Unlike a Newbie question thread where things can be easily answered, the M7 debates are pretty much all subjective. People will continue to bring up every possible angle to prove why it sucks or it's awesome, etc... I think if there was a pinned thread, then someone could ask a question like, "Why is the VF-19 Kai red?" without setting off the debate. Or at the very least, when it goes into "it's red because it sucks!" - we can tell whomever to take it to the pinned thread where it belongs. It seems to me that once you group all of it in one place, then you don't have guys waiting for a chance to bash and defend something - and that's really the problem here. There are other topics that always set off the same stupid opinion wars, like EVA - but Macross 7 is a Macross show and it isn't going anywhere. Like the HG debates, it'll probably always be a part of Macross discussions. The love/hate for M7 goes back to the old usenet groups. Let's just make a place for it and be done with it. I guess the main reason I've started this thread is because I can't honestly think of any reason why NOT to make a pinned M7 debate thread, other than we don't want to admit that it's there, or that you guys think it may just encourage more flaming, etc. and require more moderation. But I really don't think it would. Let me know if I'm off-base here.

Cool... But it only continues to prove that it's somehow easier to spend countless hours practicing ridiculous scales and spraying your hair with Aqua-Net than it is to write one quality song and have people like it.
-
I'm like most here... I love the EVAs... but I'm also a big fan of the Mazingers... But I would rave all day about them and pay much more if they'd just make these things bigger.

The word is "pimp". Now I just need to get one of those pimp hats for my monkey suit! Rob Well... somebody had to do it.

Great post, Final Vegeta.. But that being said... once the M7 argument grows to include French cheese... what's left? As for this nugget of wisdom from Wicked Ace: As one of the "been there, done that" crowd - all I'm saying is that we should have a pinned thread for M7 debates. Otherwise everytime a newbie gets around to watching it, a new thread of "Guitars In Space! No, no, no!" and the same old crap gets recycled. It's almost like hearing there's a shoe sale and watching women drop what they're doing to run in the door and buy. Here come the bashers! Here come the defenders! Here come the spectators! Here come the whiners who are sick of the argument! We all fit one (at least) of those categories... let's quit denying that it's a stain of idiocy on the boards and give it a place. There was a time that every thread ended up a "HG feud"... same thing happens with M7. When there's a place for such things, then crap tends to get put there and it stays out of other discussions. Plus, it all gets kept in the thread, so we don't have say, "this argument has been done before, check this thread." It's simply about not having a crappy board as much as it is about being sick of it. And last - I have a sick desire to see if the M7 crap could ever possibly reach as many pages as the HG debate thread. Sorry if that suggestion puts a damper on what you consider fun - but it makes perfect sense to me.

OPTIMUS: Hey Jetfire, Skyfire! Hic... whatever your name ish.. hic. You look like you could use a backrub. Huh? hic. Whaddyasay? Hikaru: Dude... you've been drinking again, haven't you?

Definitely getting a stand, most likely getting a VF-0S - but not until after I've heard a few opinions on it.

There are a million types of personality in adults and children. Everybody has different interests and everybody has different strengths. No cartoon or anything else is gonna make your kid a sissy, even if he never has the opportunity to play with dumb stuff like throwing stars and M-80's. Give a kid a rock and he'll figure out a way to make another kid cry with it. You guys are so concerned about wussier children - I'm much more concerned with having dumber children. When I have one I'm going to be far more concerned with his ability to read, write, and communicate intelligently than I am with what cartoon hero he idolizes. Basically bad parenting causes bad behavior in children, like JSA's pointed out. If you want better kids, spend time with them and raise them to be the type of person you want them to be. -
The Trailer for Batman Begins is OUT!

Good lord, WDC... you and really disagree on a few points. Jeff Goldblum? I know he's tall and thin... but he's an idiot! And a terrible actor to boot! Batman: You're going down, Joker, it's gotta be that way! Jokerblum: Well, ah, you see, ah - um, well, this is something, uh, well, ah... different - it's an iMac... yes, yes... and it's well, uhm, well, it's rigged. Yes, it's rigged, you see, to uhm, ah, well... destroy something. Yes, destroy something, you see, Batman - can I call you Batman? Great. You see, uhm, well, it's going to destroy the Eiffel tower. Yes. Uhm. Well. Batman: You're a moron. And you talk funny. Then, on your Batman Forever review: You did see the same movie I did, didn't you? Or is this a joke? Seriously. I doubt if you cast all 5 Queer Eye Guys at once to play Robin if he would come off anymore gay than Chris O'Donell. By making Robin a perfectly legal man-boy who looks about 27... it doesn't come off less homoerotic than the typical "young ward" routine... it comes off much worse, if less pedophillic. And only dirty minds think that way about a millionaire who loves letting circus boys move in with him, anyway. Plus he's a terrible actor, to boot. But he doesn't do that stupid stammering thing so I won't paraphrase like I did with Goldblum. He just sucks, period. -
Macross 7 always brings out the best in him.

Use the term "based" loosely. Miller was involved at one point - but with another director (Darren Aronofsky) - this one may be based upon Year One, but probably not as religiously as it would have been had he been involved. For all we know, Nolan and the studio might just like the idea of starting Bats over to restart the franchise. Everything I've seen looks cool and gritty, though. Any Frank Miller fan should be excited about Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Sin City. Frank's definitely involved with that. So involved that Rodriguez resigned from the Director's Guild of America so he could name Frank Miller as co-director. -
Brosnan definitely seems like he wants a change or just wants to get out. Of course his new movie's getting terrible reviews... if it tanks at the Box Office, I'll bet he'll seem alot more game to be the Broccoli's boy. I think it's cool that he's willing to back QT's idea in the press, though. If I was him, I'd wish I were in better Bond movies too. From imdb.com

A one of the few good things about Macross 7... Yeah, the red valks, guitar controls, music, flying monsters were completely ridiculous - M7 is so silly! But the hot, flying, purple haired, barely-speaking, vampire girl was awesome!

I was wondering if question 54 was reversed.. how can liking Robotech make you more of an anime fan? it does not. sayign yes to any question is not a positive. it depdns on wha tyou have done and not done. Nope... it's pretty obvious math. For every yes you answer, the higher your rating is. So saying Yes to any question is a positive - on that particular test. I got 38 out of 200, making me 81 % otaku pure and 19% otaku corrupted. Get a calculator and see for yourself. As for my score... Not too bad. I don't feel too dorky now. Give me a test on music and I'll be revealed to be a complete goob.

The Clone Wars according to Lucas

Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you! I'm just happy that I have no idea what a Suncrusher or a force-inhibiting lizard is... but I can do a dead-on Billy Dee impression from ESB. That's really all that matters. But if people like the EU stuff, more power to them. I've enjoyed a few of the video games - but I don't want to read a solo adventure about Ewok #4 who stood next to Wicket at the bonfire scene. Unless it's really, really violent - then maybe. -

Looks very cool to me. But the real acid test is when the costume has to move and the guy in it has to talk. That's what'll make it real to me. -
After the 1/48's I'm not buying any other 1/60's - I already have a VF-1A Max, VF-1J Super, VF-1S Strike, and VF-1D... as much as I like the Elint and Ostrich, I'll wait until/if they come out in 1/48. I will buy the GBP armor though. Because it's pretty cheap and will look great on my 1J.

True that... one of my worst Macross collecting memories is a few years back when Bandai decided to pull out of the Macross business and short-shipped the Max and Millia valks. I had a 4 month preorder that got cancelled on me. Luckily a fellow MW board member hooked me up, but it was so weird seeing people who hadn't liked the 1/55 reissues at all going crazy to get their hands on them.

If that were the case, don't you think I'd be involved by now!?! H Good point! And yet, here we are...
