Remember, remember the 5th of November
Blaine23 replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No offense, Vandermeer, but you're pretty off in that assessment. Alan Moore stance on film adaptations of his work is that he'd just rather not be involved in them. He states pretty clearly that his job is writing comic books, not movies - and unlike most comic creators, he doesn't want to pretend otherwise. Once the material is optioned - which usually the writer DOES NOT own the rights to (they are owned by whatever company published them), the filmmakers can essentially do whatever they want with it. Seems to me, that Moore knows this - and gets it. Instead of bitching like Anne Rice, Frank Miller and million other authors who've had their work "changed" by film directors - Moore simply stays out of it. I don't think that's being twattish at all. That's just a smart writer who knows he can't control the movie process, doesn't want to control the movie process, and decided it's better to be uninvolved than be held responsible if the movie is a steaming pile of crap. He knows he wrote a great comic - Fu%k Hollywood if they can't make a decent movie out of it. Here's an interview with Alan Moore on Onion AV, talking about From Hell - Seems pretty smart to me. A film adaptation is what it is... the comic still kicks ass. -
Just a quick question... What IS with Andy, anyway?

Are you sure there weren't any black out periods the last time you saw them? What could you possibly have done??? 314218[/snapback] Well there was that incident where Graham supposedly drank his own weight in whiskey and marched up to Yamato HQ and peed on the front door... but I'm pretty sure the cameras never caught his face. Just kidding, newbs. Graham can't drink his own weight in whiskey. It must have been beer.

What Macross Zero toy do you want after the VF-0S?
Blaine23 replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
Honestly, I'd like to see this toy actually make it into production with the same kinda success the 1/48 VF-1 has had.... then I'd dig a 1/60 SV-51. -
Whoa... totally did NOT see this one coming. I mean, we all HOPED that Yamato would scrap the 1/100 and give us something more substantial... but this is awesome! It's been a while since I said this, but - "Thanks Yamato - you rock."

Remember, remember the 5th of November
Blaine23 replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm looking forward to this, even though it could never be as good as Alan Moore's comic. Still, even if they kept 50% of the original material, it would be a great story. -
You can if you change a few things and call it The Incredibles.

Really? Who do you blame for her lackluster performance in Catwoman? Or B.A.P.S.? Gothika, Die Another Day, The Rich Man's Wife, or Swordfish? (though her nude chest acted extremely well in that one ) All I'm saying is every other actor in Singer's X-Men did a fine job and she's been known to stink up the screen before. Ratner's X3 will very likely lead the X-Men franchise into a shiny, special effects-laden, soulless filmmaking. See what happened after Burton left Batman and basically sit back and watch it all happen again. IMHO, there's not a whole ton of difference between Brett Ratner and Joel Schumacher.

Hilarious SW Ep III condensed script
Blaine23 replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
BWAH!!! -
Saw it last night. I thought it rocked. The only thing that seemed goofy or out of place were the occasional lines that were obviously thrown to "punch up" the script or to please the studio with trailer soundbites. Usually it was anytime they praised the Batmobile. Other than that, the movie really works. Gotham was a terrific redeisgn, Neeson was fantastic, Bale was great - but he could use some work on his "Bat-Voice." The movie definitely made Batman as a character make more sense than any other adaptation.

"Hey!" all George Romero fans!
Blaine23 replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Never was much of a Romero's Dead fan - but I'll never understand how the idea of somebody making a remake somehow diminishes the value of the original. If you don't want to see a remake, then don't go see it. I mean, I saw the Willy Wonka trailer yesterday and as much as I'm a fan of Burton and Depp - it looks like a complete waste of time and eerily identical to the original movie. I probably won't waste my time going to see it. But no matter how crappy it is, it will only make the original look that much better. Same thing with Planet of the Apes, or Psycho, or any other remake. Only zombie movie I thought was plausible and cool was 28 Days Later. -
Well, I can only speak for myself and those around me, but both my Playstation and my PS2 both still work like clockwork. The two or three friends I have that I borrow and trade games have fully working original PS2's and that's what I'm basing my opinion on. I can't really call it shoddy if it's working like a champ after 3 years of ownership, can I? Or should I believe you instead of looking at my own entertainment system? I don't even know anybody who's PS2 is broken except for my cousin who's kid poured a Coke on it. I've got a friend with an X-Box, it seems like a fine game system. The only game I like that PS doesn't have that we played is Halo and Halo 2. I don't have anything against it, I just don't see any reason to buy an X-Box instead of what I already have. I have looked at the games and I'll probably buy a Playstation. No offense to the X-Box, but there will be more titles for the Playstation (as there are now) and all of the titles I enjoy now will definitely be on PS3... so why on Earth would I switch? Because you say I should? That's goofy. It seems like you're very into your video games and very much into your X-Box. Good for you. I don't have any problem with that. But I think it's a bit silly to runaround calling people who buy Playstations "fanboys like MGREXXX". But don't assume that every consumer hasn't looked into what they're buying (or is a blinded idiot) just because they aren't doing what you are. Live and let live. You're far, far more of an X-Box zealot than anyone you're accusing of being a Playstation fanboy.

Like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride from Disneyworld? Awesome! I'll be seeing this tomorrow, sounds like I'm in for a good flick.

Survey: Ten Worst Comic Book/Superhero Movies
Blaine23 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The writing was done so well, that it's a very easy one to get into. Neil really has a great talent for writing, and I'm looking forward to getting a Lucifer graphic novel. Amen. I'd also recommend Death - the High Cost of Living... it's Sandman related and also wonderful. Neil's work on Miraclemand and the original Books of Magic are fantastic too. Gaiman's books - especially American Gods - are also great. He's just the best comic writer ever who doesn't happen to be named Alan Moore. -
You might be right, but I have my doubts that Neeson will be another Alec Guiness, who was dismayed to learn his legacy in popular culture would ultimately be as Obi Wan. Unlike Guiness, Neeson has appeared in a ton of films, from Darkman, Schindler's List to Rob Roy and Love Actually. I actually think Neeson is pretty amazing for defying type. I mean, any guy who could actually be in Next of Kin with Patrick Swayze or Krull, but still go on to do as many good roles as he has is defying a pretty good amount of typecasting. You might see him as playing roles "EXACTLY like Qui Gon", but I have to wonder what movies you're watching. Was his roleas Dr. Alfred Kinsey similar? Did he seem similar as a Russian sub commander in K:19? What movies does he remind you of Qui Gon in? How is he one-dimensional? Maybe to the SW fandom, he'll always be known as some Jedi - but I think the world at large has a much higher opinion of the title role in Schindler's List than The Phantom Menace... hell, most Star Wars fans list Episode I as their least favorite film.

Yes, Duke, you've offered this tidbit at least once before, as has MGREXX. And I've told you before that all that proves is that people like you will buy the PS3 simply because it says "PlayStation" on the side. Bottom line is that when Microsoft threw their hat into the console ring, most people thought it was a joke, and that the Xbox was going to tank faster than the Dreamcast did. And yet, it went on to carve out a piece of the market for itself that's bigger than Nintendo's. The Xbox team is gunning for first, and while they aren't likely to take it anytime soon, they will close the gap. I see what you're saying, Mike - but I think you're missing the point I tried to make earlier. Your average consumer will likely buy one console - I happen to fall into that majority. Video games just really aren't important enough to me to see spending more than the price of one console and a few games. Playstation has brand loyalty and they earned it with the two very solid game machines, a variety of titles, and compatability with their friend's consoles (for borrowing games, etc...) There is a difference between brand loyalty and fanboyism, but I don't think you're seeing that.
-
Or maybe Xbox gamers are more open-minded. I know I picked the "more than one" option for this poll. Or, maybe PlayStation fanboys just spend more time voting on senseless polls. Playstation fanboys? I get it... you're going to buy multiple game consoles, but the average consumer (like me) only plans on buying one... one system that will have more games, more friends to borrow games from, and more proven successful licenses... yet I'm a fanboy because I'll like buy a PS3? Your logic perplexes me. Seems like the average joe just wants to play a few games here and there and not obsess over minutae like disc format, playing on the internet, and who makes the processor or graphics card. If anybody in the poll are "fanboys", it's you guys. Me, I just wanna kick back and play a game or two.

You have to be kidding. The dude is Oskar Schindler, for crap's sake. It's hard to imagine that playing Qui-Gon would ever eclipse the lead role in one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed movies of all time.

Mitch: I've had a hell of a day and even worse week. And all I want to do is get some fuking sleep. Beanie: Whoa. Whoa. Why the F-ing? Why in front of the kid? All ya gotta do is say "earmuffs" to him, and you can say "Fuk, sh1t, b1tch." Frank: Cock. Balls. Beanie: I'm just trying to make a point, Frank. You don't have to celebrate it.

But that would mean that we weren't all stupid for enjoying this thread. Which we obviously all are. Think about it. In a mere 7 pages of goofiness we managed to acheive what The World's Longest Thread didn't acheive in like, 9003 pages. We've got at least two feuds, a board quitter (maybe 2... I lost count), and all sorts of misplaced indignant behavior! Let me say this thread kicks major ass!

Wow. In the course of this thread I've seen so much idiocy that I feel some strange need to sum it all up. 1. MGREXXX might be using/stealing other user's names to post more dumbness that most of us ignore anyway. Fascinating. 2. Zentrandude gets all Sam Waterson from Law & Order on EXO because EXO can't prove that the glove must fit. Therefore, he must acquit. In the process, he compares internet forum banning to Guantanemo Bay interrogation and declares he may "become an enemy of Macrossworld one day" duhn-duhn-DUHN! Very scary. 3. Togo, AgentONE, and JSArclight pop in to do what it is that they do. Which is for Togo to throw out odd statements, A1 to make it all about him, and JSArclight to try to make sense of this silliness. 4. Somehow Quadrono (the unofficial Che Guevara to the misfits of Macrossworld), SkullOne, BoK, and other tools all get namechecked... because this is the only forum where their memories still exist. 5. Haterist and Hurin then prove that it takes nearly nothing more than the mention of their names to turn this into yet another one of their long, slow, love tangos of passion and mutual attraction/hate. Except, there's a twist! This time out, Hurin's gonna actually try to apologize. Fasciniting as always. Right up there next to watching paint dry. 6. Roy the Mod steps in, vomits, then wipes his mouth and leaves - a single tear running down one cheek. 7. MGREXXX pops in to say something stupid that we all mostly ignore (see #1) 8. Everybody tries to be funny. Yes, this is the typical course for a Feedback thread.

Survey: Ten Worst Comic Book/Superhero Movies
Blaine23 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Easily the worst comic movie ever made would be the Corman Fantastic Four - which, thankfully, was never, ever released officially. Those who have seen the bootlegs know of what I speak. -
Whats her name? Mallatobuck? [Kelso] Burn!!! [/Kelso] What's even sad is that I had to look up Mallatobuck on google. I thought it might be some kind of mixed birth deer. What's even sadder is that Mallatobuck has a page on Wikipedia? Mallatobuck

Hee... the country station is probably my favorite. It adds a certain Tarantino element that I think the game tries for (some of the time). I was gonna ask you what tunes you put on your mix, JSA. You definitely oughta throw in some crap like EMF or Jesus Jones to really round it out. One of these days I'm a-gonna get around to building a dedicated PC for gaming. Seems like the best way to play GTA from what I've read just about everywhere. One thing about the music... can anyone explain to me why EVERY GTA game has to have a K-Jah Reggae station? Are these games huge in the islands or something? I'm gonna put on an iron shirt. JSA - you heard anything good about GTA: Liberty City Stories yet? Is it a good enough reason for me to buy one of these stoopid PSP things?

At the moment, I'll be looking at a nude girl with far too few vowels in her name and ignoring you, BSU.
