Actually, they are. Everytime you smack the Minmei doll, Reba West cringes in pain and her singing gets worse.

All I know is that he is very nice, has an unusual hatred for purple and neon green mecha as well as Transformers, and he likes to say "Mis-aisles" instead of missles. But I blame that on his being born a filthy redcoat, which isn't really his fault. All of these things are true. I would have posted something silly and imaginative, but nothing could top BSU... that was beautiful man. Beautiful.

I'll whip both of your backs like Jonas Eldred and send you out west where you belong. BTW - Song of Susannah's out today! Hell Yeah!

Reissued Voltron is 30 bucks? Really? Is this in every way the same as the old die cast toy from the '80's? If it is, why am I not aware of this!? I need to have one! I already have the cheap ass, crappy Voltron: The Third Dimension toy, and I would prefer a hard core, die cast toy. So, who's got one? :-P Not just identical, but better. Each of the lions missle functions worked now that were disabled in the 80's Matchbox versions. Heh... when they were reissued, not only were they $30 MSRP, but most went on sale pretty early on. I bought three of them. One at full price and another 2 at a whopping $9.99 each. Too bad I already sold the other two at a greatly increased profit. They fetch pretty good prices on eBay... but you can still get one far cheaper than $150.00 bucks. I would be more worried about how crappy the Toynami Voltron will turn out in terms of quality. Go handle a MPC VF-1... I wouldn't trust their "engineers" to make anything remotely nice.

That last one is my personal favorite, Anubis. Providing that the logos are nicely Photoshopped onto the image... which shouldn't be a problem at all, since the back ground is black for both. If you post a bigger pic of the top piece, I'll mock it up for you. Great work. It's looking good.

Graham - You forgot this one - SDF Macross TV 1/48 VF-1D. I refuse to believe you left it out on purpose.

Good lord... is there some sort of conspiracy to force us to remember these atrocious knockoff psuedo-Barbies this week?

Hikaru. It's not that difficult. Nice coathanger stand, though.

I'll be sure to put you on that rocket when you're past your prime. I'll never be old. I am planning on seeing CROM way before that. Whatever... you'll be sitting in a room cheering for Cocoon and Matlock reruns one day. You're far too healthy.

Heck, color me corrected. I remembered reading an article where Goldman was blathering on and on about his great collaborations with King... Then crappy movies came out of both Hearts In Atlantis and Dreamcatcher. Personally, I'd blame more of the debacle of Dreamcatcher on all of them. It wasn't even a very good novel to begin with, King was basically ripping off himself and repackaging it. Goldman has written great screenplays - Butch Cassidy, Princess Bride, Misery And he's written crap. But his books about screenwriting are very enjoyable. Kasdan has a few good movies left in him... I hope. Dreamcatcher seemed like a pretty crappy fit for him anyway. SciFi Horror? By looking at his IMDB page, I just realized he directed I Love You To Death, another underrated comedy. That and his son made Zero Effect, another great underrated comedy. Daryl Zero rules.

Erm.....you mean the same Kershener that gave the world Robocop 2 and Never Say Never Again? And the same Kasdan that oh-so recently left the turd that was Dreamcatcher floating in the cinematic toilet bowl? No, I think Empire was the pinnacle of the careers of nearly everyone involved. Like Raiders a year later, it was lightning in a bottle. It was something that happens only once in a lifetime. Like I said... Kirshner & Kasdan working off of Lucas' story... I'm just of the opinion that Lucas works best when working with other people who are good at the things he's not good at. Such as scripts and actors, IMHO. Besides - Kasdan didn't write the wretched Dreamcatcher, that can be blamed on William Goldman and Stephen King himself. Larry Kasdan did do some killer work on Silverado, Big Chill, and the underrated Mumford. You're definitely right about it being the pinnacle of all involved, though. A near perfect movie resulted from their collaboration. I got all excited when I heard the rumor that Lucas was going to work with various directors for the prequels, mostly young and innovative... unfortunately that wasn't the case.

It's a bootleg of the Animeigo release. Excellent quality, but it's only episodes 1-24. There is supposedly another volume to be released. If you don't like bootlegs or have ethical issues with buying them, I'd avoid it and pay for the Animeigo versions.

Sithlord got it right, until he veered off into Fantasy Island.

LOL... that's my move. Works everytime. She only notices boxes, never toys. Oh and Mr. Disco, I put this together for an older post about checklists...

Good post, Buzz - I had enough of Herzog, Godard, Bergman, and Fellini in film school to know that while they were innovators, they don't exactly inspire me to sit down and watch their movies repeatedly, personally. This one - He's a definite fave that alot of people haven't checked out. I dare anybody to watch his "color trilogy" of Blue, White and Red and not be stunned and amazed. Mr. March also mentioned a few that I like, but I have reservations about praising too thoroughly.. Soderbergh is definitely a great. Having made The Limey, Erin Brokovitch, SL&V, and Traffic alone is enough to declare him fantastic. He takes alot of chances - some don't pay off to well, but his energy and obvious joy in filmmaking is inspiring as hell. Jeunet is another favorite of mine. I loved City of Lost Children waaaaay before Amelie redeemed him after the unfortunate Aliens 4. I felt he really hit his stride with Amelie and I can't wait to see what he releases next. Christopher Nolan made a great film. I'm not a big fan of Insomnia or Following, though. I want to see more before I know if Memento was a fluke. And I already gushed over Cameron Crowe... but I never mentioned that Say Anything is one of the best movies ever made. Last... I have to disagree on the George Lucas front. I think he's a brilliant creator. A brilliant innovator. A brilliant marketer. But Star Wars was the only good movie he ever made to me. Great innovations in technology can never replace the need to guide actors and tell a good story. And his insistence on directing the prequels to me has ruined them. Give me Kirshner & Kasdan working off of Lucas' story and you'll end up with another masterpiece like Empire. Otherwise, I can't count him as a great director. Far from a hack, though.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Dumbledore was way off. Noone can fill Richard Harris's shoes to be sure. But my main problem is that Michael Gambon was almost not even there. Richard Harris was either very tall, or they made him out to be as Dumbledore. He was always the tallest person in every scene he was in, and rightfully so. Dumbledore is supposed to be very old, very tall, very thin, and command enourmous respect. Michael Gambon did a fine job, but IMHO, they changed too much about Dumbledore's appearance, he was wearing very plain robes, he was far too animated since Dumbledore is supposed to be very ancient, and he just did not have the presence that Dumbledore should have had. I agree, but I just think anybody coming in and "playing Harris as Dumbledore" wouldn't have worked either... so it's pretty much a lose-lose situation. Nobody can fill Richard Harris' shoes. He's definitely missed. I actually liked the werewolf design, although a few with me didn't. I'm usually a pretty tough judge of werewolves and my true fave is American Werewolf in London (the best, ever)... but this one seemed to fit in with HP "world"... too gruesome or large would've seemed wrong here. Of course anything is better than the crap-ass videogame graphic centaur of the first film. BARF. Agreed. Love him. But I did expect him to occasionally start blabbing about how rock stars need to blow off steam and have sex with multiple women and consume amazing amounts of drugs. That role for him Rock Star was just absolutely pitch perfect. Well... not everything is gonna be like the book. I liked the movie version enough not to really care about the difference. That's Columbus' style. It worked great for the first film, not so much for the second. That sense of innoncence and wonder really doesn't sustain itself through multiple movies and as the cast grows older. To me, the series is about moving from childhood to adulthood and I think this movie accomplishes a tough task of bringing them into believable 13-14 year olds... perhaps too abruptly, but to me it was a welcome change and a breath of fresh air. As for all the animagus, unregistered animagus, background story stuff... it works fine in the book, but I think it would've weighed down the film unneccesarily. A brief sentence or two from Oldman about how he escaped would've been perfect, but since there was nothing, I'm imagined such a scene got cut from the final film. The great thing about the books is that they totally leave room for that sort of thing to be explained in great detail. Such massive exposition in movies bores just about anybody but the rabid fans. The real story is about Harry and what he deals with and I thought Cuaron did a good job of keeping the focus there. -
My Trendmasters version is just fine... and I got three of them on sale for $9.99 each. I can guarantee this one won't have nearly the die-cast that one does. You can damage cars with Trendmasters version. And it's really not like I want a more accurate looking robot made up of five lions.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Blaine23 replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This is the best movie so far of the franchise. It's also the longest story yet of the franchise and there was bound to be some stuff that got trimmed or reworked for the movie's sake. Things I liked - More inventive camera work and realistic settings in the first 10 minutes than the other 2 movies combined. Cuaron lets the kids seem more realistic than Columbus ever did and his camera work is more artistic and far, far less Speilberg. Better acting. All of the kids are better, but real surprises here in some of the new characters. Oldman's Black is better than I would have imagined. All at once looney, fierce, and sad as hell. Thewlis' Lupin is equally well played and he's a far less exciting character. Now as far as Dumbledore... nobody can fill Richard Harris' shoes. He's sorely missed here... but I respect the new guy's playing him a bit differently. Maybe in the next few movies I'll be more into him. As far as the claim to bad effects... sorry, Mechamaniac... but I didn't see any. I thought the effects looked better and far, far, far less "stagey" than the previous installments. I didn't see any of the Mary Poppinsy crap that Columbus seemed to do in the magic parts. Hell, one noticeable way the effects are better - All of the pictures that move look far more realistic and cool than the ones in the first two. Either way... my only real complaint is that Cuaron isn't directing the next one. And those of you not liking that they changed the book... Goblet of Fire is gonna have to be MAJORLY reworked to be a single movie. Order of the Phoenix even more so. From this point forward... think of the books as a different animal entirely. -
It all depends. You definitely need to decide whether it is for an original release or one of the recent Bandai reissues, because the arm armor is different. You also may want to consider recasts, if you find them. As far as the price goes, it's basically what you're willing to pay.

John Milius did direct Conan... but he also made Red Dawn... which is funny... but I don't really think it was supposed to be. AVENGE ME, BOYS! AVENNNGE MEEEE! I also truly believe that the NRA had to have paid the studios for that movie. Hey, Majestic - reprinting a list and going "meh" doesn't add much. Why don't you pick some of the ones you think are great and which ones are terrible and explain why... otherwise, you're basically just wasting space with nothing to discuss.

Proof why Soundwave is the COOLEST Decepticon.

Snake Eyes has much better moves. -
Yup... I highly reccomend Spybot - Search and Destroy 1.3. It's free and it kills those pop up programs dead. If you use it and Adaware, you should be in the clear.
-
Swept Away... a remake. The original film is excellent. Guy & Madonna's remake is worse than Gigli.

Anyone found a subbed copy to torrent yet? And if you have... a link?

Good lord... this is like throwing a bucketful of crack down in any alley in New York and watching the junkies scramble. All that being said, I want an Alpha and a Cyclone... EXO, do it for Fantasy Island's sake. I have Paypal ready to go... you guys might want to rent a UHaul or something.
