Hmmm... somehow I don't equate getting to see a Spiderman trailer with "letting the terrorists win." If Sony & Marvel feel like the trailer might be construed as disrespectful to the families and loved ones of those lost in the tragedy, then I don't really blame them for not making it available. In the end you're basically weighing a fanboyish desire to see Spidey footage VS. a very real disaster that shook this nation to it's core and affected millions in a very painful way. I'd have left the footage off the disc too.

i'm confused. are you bored with the movies or do you like them? I think he means that he likes the movies, but he's bored with the first one. I thought of another reason I'd consider buying this set... if they included at least one full disc of nothing but Monica Belluci. I don't care if 3 1/2 hours of footage of her brushing her teeth, picking her nose, reading the phonebook aloud... I also think I'm starting to figure out why I like Reloaded...

Take it for what it's worth... But I think if Kawamori & Big West had another shot at a Macross TV series they would be best served by creating something very similar to the original. You don't see great Space soap opera that much anymore, particularly not mixed with all of the other elements that make Macross great - like the valkyries, music, etc. I miss the great space "coming of age" theme and I miss seeing a dumb recruit learn the terrible lessons of war while piloting badass transforming mecha. Gundam's success has much to do with repetition - even the colors of the mecha is repetitive to a scary level - but it also has much to do with great marketing and lots of money.
-
If they just put the first movie on each of the 10 discs, it would be far better. I dig extras, commentray, etc... but this is pretty much a drastic case of overkill. I'll be plenty happy with Matrix on one disc and the sequels that I bought Previously Viewed for about 6 bucks each. Call me crazy, but I still kinda like Reloaded - even if it's a far drop from the first one.

Do we have any confirmation whether or not ninjas will be involved? Because that would be really cool if the ninjas piloted the Veritechs and threw giant metal throwing stars and stuff blew up and the ninjas all yell out "Shadow Force! Step to this and you get wrecked, honkeys!" It also should involved a heavy metal band seeking to grow Protoculture flowers using their wicked axes to generate Shadow power, which gets the ninjas all revved up to go kill and stuff again.

The real deal with Harmony Gold and DYRL
Blaine23 replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Movies and TV Series
Wow. So we're basically arguing about HG's making DYRL licensed products when 99% of us don't like HG's licensed products anyway? Hmmm... what can HG make from DYRL? Coffee mug? Hat? Toynami Masterpieces? No thanks. I've got plenty of great DYRL merchandise and I can't think of a single thing they could make that I'd ever want to buy. As for the rest, whatever. -
Spider-Man 2 review! (spoiler free)

Who knows what's going on with the blond girl... again, part of what made the old skool soap opera-ish Spiderman comic so great was that they would set up new characters, but wait awhile before something actually happens to involve them in the main story. Maybe something will happen with her in the next flick. Personally, I'd love to see the next movie kill of Dunst like Gwen Stacy. Spiderman can't be tied to just one woman! In the comics, he was always dating several, with disastrous results. Speaking of other women, I'd really enjoy it if they brought in the Black Cat... even she is a bit too much like Catwoman, drawn the Marvel way. -

Nope, but I'm always scared I'm gonna type in "Macrossworld.com" one day and get a 404 page. It's a bit scary knowing the guy repsonsible for my favorite forum hardly has time to be here any more. -

I can you exactly how most here on MW will react. What? With a yawn? I was unimpressed with their old SPs, I'm still underwhelmed by these. Let's see them release the film on DVD with a superb transfer and perfect subs. Then you'll see a reaction. Otherwise, meh. -
Spider-Man 2 review! (spoiler free)
Blaine23 replied to Zeta Otaku's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Nah... it's just more recent popularity. Green Goblin and the rest of the gang were sorta popular for their time. Popular enough to stick around for about 40 years now. Kinda hard to argue with that. Personally, I like Venom, but I think Carnage was completely unneeded and just cashing in on what was working. The original symbiote suit story arc was a great simply because it took a looooong time to build up and manifest, like all of Spidey's best tales. If they ever did a Venom story, I'd much prefer it if it took at least a few films to go from being a weird spidey suit to being a villain. Raimi's obviously a fan of the old skool Stan Lee/Ditko era. I doubt you'll be seeing any Venom anytime soon unless Marvel execs start using their pincers and blowtorches on him. But ya never know. It's all about what era of the comic you were part of. Newer X-men fans think that Age of Apocolypse is the bomb, whereas older fogies like me know full well that AoA was just a crappy version of Days of Future Past. Never forget that you're only a kid once and when you were a kid says alot about what you remember with rose colored glasses. -

I wondered about that too... My only reasoning would have to be that Doc Ock was given some sort of mental boost by the tentacles plugged directly into his spinal system. Basically, they could (theoretically) tell him to ignore pain if they have the capability to pretty much dominate his decision making abilities. But that is an odd point. If you're gonna let Spidey take shots to the Doc's head, ya gotta explain about why he can take it. Good point, Vin. Another question would be... who in the hell doesn't know his secret identity by the movie? Aunt May? JJJ? Robbie Robertson? Bruce Campbell? -

Toynami Macross Super Poseables
Blaine23 replied to VALKYRIE-EXCHANGE.COM's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Who knows? Apparently whatever contract got signed entitles them to pretty much anything they decide belongs to them. I wouldn't be too shocked if they began to demand the right of Prima Nocte, or First Night, from all those that ever worked on Macross. As for the Superposeables... pretty much look the same as the last ones. I got a VF-1D to see what it was like... it's okay, but I seriously doubt I'll ever buy anymore. Non transforming valks = none of my money. -
Yeah, it's the singer for STP w/ most of the what was GnR. It's not bad, but it's no Appetite for Destruction, either. BTW - I was kinda kidding about the Guns comment. Old news... etc. I guess I shoulda went with the Beatles.

You're that guy? I hate that guy. Also to add - All the Venom/Carnage/Symbiote talk... you guys are aware that Spidey was around for about 20+ years of great comics before those stories? In that time Spidey took on tons of interesting bad guys - Mysterio, Vulture, Lizard, Scorpion, Sandman, Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Rhino, Kraven, Electro, and about 8 billion others. If they can make Doc Ock that cool, then they can really do just for fine for a looooooong time without doing all the symbiote crap. -
Well then I guess this DID have a purpose... If you haven't read it... it's still news! Hey did you guys hear that Guns N' Roses broke up? I'm serious!

Spider-Man 2 review! (spoiler free)
Blaine23 replied to Zeta Otaku's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just saw it... great flick, IMHO better than the first film. However, I agree with the complaints about Dunst as MJ. Cute as she is, she would be definitely better as Gwen Stacy... as it is, we get a weird Gwen/MJ morph, which doesn't really work as well for me. Still - Molina was better than perfect... very impressed with his work here. Same goes for Raimi and Maguire. It seems both are really honing their skills in bringing Spidey to life. I just have always loved an underdog hero with real world problems. You don't find that with Bats, Supes, or any of the other best known heroes. I'd love to see more Spidey's humor, but all in all, they're doing a great job making Spiderman movies that I dreamed about as a kid. How cool is that? -

Yep, I saw the 5 hour edit at a friends house and I'm pretty sure I remember the first 4 hours somewhat clearly. The last hour is hazy due to the numbing effect of the 4 hours already (crazy, disjointed, multiple takes) and the whiskey I was consuming. I do remember the compound's destruction, however. But ultimately I decided that Redux is enough A. Now for me. I agree w/ BSU though... some of that plantation stuff could easily be cut as well. Also - I'd like to second the endorsement of Hearts of Darkness. A thrilling documentary and a very, very candid look at what will likely go down in history as the most bizarre and overwrought film shoot ever. I also recommend anybody picking up this book - Easy Riders, Raging Bulls by Peter Biskind It's chock full of interesting lore about the era of 70's filmmaking. The Coppola chapter explains quite a bit about his breakdown during A. Now as well as a million other great stories about films in the 70s. -
Nope Roy... there was some b00bies in that movie. I believe I recall seeing a nekkid Guinevere in the lake w/ Lancelot. No doubt this has been edited out in TV/Cable versions. Excalibur is a killer flick, though. It's ironic to hear folks complain about the armor details in a film based upon what is mostly legend. To me, what the film really nails is the character interraction between the knights and a certain sense of brutality that is missing from most films regarding Art & co. I don't expect much other than visual hoo-hah and lameness from the Bruckheimer movie... even though I do really like Clive Owen as Arthur. I guess I could be wrong, but the trailer didn't do much to raise it in my opinion.

Oh come now....just cause you can 'grok' someone doesnt make it all that bad... Seriously though, Paul Verhoven and his cronies said that they hated the book and never intended to be faithful in any way shape or form. That is the heighth of arrogance in my opinion. Thats a rich a-hole deciding that he thinks you're small minded and he's decided he's gonna piss on your shoulder and say its raining. He's a jackass of the highest order. Nah... he's not a jackass of the highest order. He's just a director, doing what he thought would make for an entertaining film. Geeks can bitch about it all day, but in the end, Verhoven's version sold movie tickets and turned a profit. So, in essence, he wins. Who's really the Jackass? The studio execs who basically had the property rights and said we'll pay Paul V a ton of money to make the flick, even though he doesn't really care much for the source material. If somebody gave me a few million to direct a movie based on the Family Circus, I'd make whatever the hell I wanted and what I thought would sell movie tickets in order to keep me working. And I friggin HATE the Family Circus. That's just the movie business, kids. Just for your knowledge, my movie version of the Family Circus would involve a violent sexual act between Billy, Granpa, and the ghost NOT-ME. -

i'd keep the Ipod hands down. i mean its your/planets entire music collection ready to go anywhere you go. bring a valk to play with on a road trip/flight is not the same as having some rocking tunes where ever you go, for the rest of your life. 40 gigs, thats how many songs? how many albums? if you'd like, i literally just got a 1/48 Super 1J hikaru yesterday if you want to trade for the IPOD. Yep i guess you are right. this thing is holding 1300+ songs of mine so far, and it only used up 2 gigs. what do i do with the rest of the 38 gigs? ugh! Dude, I'd probably hand over at least 2 of my 1/48's before I let someone touch my 40GB Nomad (like iPod, only bigger and IMHO, better). Seriously, I don't think I could live without it anymore. Of course I'm currently rocking about 250 albums, 5000 misc songs, and 10 audiobooks on mine. I don't think I could give mine up. Unless of course I upgraded to a 60GB sometime soon. Of course you're talking to a musician and former music store manager with close 4000 CDs on his shelf. I'm not even going to go into all my old vinyl...

True dat. It's also called basic capitalism. Or making a living. You expect these guys to provide you with something for free? That is definitely a component to the higher price of Yamato toys. There's basically 5 groups you pick to blame for the cost of Macross toys - 1. The company that makes them (Yamato) 2. The shipping cost of having to get them from overseas, since they are not made for any market outside of Japan. (you can blame Harmony Gold for this - or blame Big West for ever signing any kind of contract w/ Tatsunoko) 3. The retailer/e-tailer who dares to sell you the toy and dares to make a profit for all of his/her hard work AND monetary risk. 5. The millions of people across the world who aren't into Macross toys (This is Macross - not Gundam, Transformers, or Dragonball Z. Accept it and move on with life.) 4. Yourself for buying them. I'd say to anyone that's seriously complaining here - pick Option 5. If the toys cost too much for you, look for deals on used toys or overstocked 1/60's that can be had cheaply. Again, it's not like you're being overcharged for something that you actually need. The 1/48 is a collector's market toy... not necessarily for everyone.
