Jack Black is......The Green Lantern
Blaine23 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think you're starting to believe that word filters are a bit like gods now? They allowed it. It must be true! -
It's sounding alot more official than when it first ran as a piece on AICN. Reuters released this statement from Singer : Very cool that he's giving props to Donner. I only hope that X3 is going to be finished before he gets started on Supes. I also only hope the suits at WB don't ruin what is probably their best chance of getting a great Superman film.

My ideal Robocop toy would be a 12" poseable Dragon-style figure with diecast armor that you could take apart and reveal his twisted internal workings along with a big ass metal ED-209 with spring levered legs, etc. That would rule the Earth, but they're ain't no way McFarlane could make anything that cool. Whatever they put out will have tons of detail, fall apart, and be made of rubbery plastic.

My Ears, my ears, please someone stop the pain
Blaine23 replied to Knight26's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Uh... pretty much anybody can cover a song, if they want. The only law is that they have to pay royalties to the songwriter for every dime it makes. I suppose they could physically try and stop him, but I doubt Elton, Enrique and the Eagles will take him out anytime soon. I think you've got it confused with the fact that you can't actually use another artist's performance of a song without permission. ie - sampling. But people have done awful renditions of classic songs for eons. Shall I point you to one of the funniest CD's ever? Golden Throats - Celebrities ruining music forever. You really haven't lived until you've heard Shatner destroy Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. -
This may very well be the most awesome paragraph ever written.

Old school match box RT pics
Blaine23 replied to goldenboy_forever's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No they sucked, GI joe figures put these to shame. The joints on these matchbox figures were horrible. What really bothered me about this line of toys was the scale issue. I'm fine with somethings being out of scale, but just about everything matchbox had was out of scale. Guess I was a hard kid to make happy. They were pretty crappy by any standard, unless you include whittling your own toys out of wood with Pa on the front porch. And even then... still kinda crappy. The saddest thing about the Matchbox toys is how unbelievably Fischer-Price they all seemed next to the toys they imported from Japan like the Gakken Cyclone and Legioss or Joke Machines. Even on the catalog it's pretty jarring to see them mixed in with the crap Matchbox created. So sad... but very nostalgic... thanks for posting these! -
My Ears, my ears, please someone stop the pain

I think he's funny as hell... but that doesn't mean I'd ever want to listen to him sing. But if some old woman in Nebraska feels sorry for his tone deaf ass and help him make a ton of money for being so embarrasingly bad and pathetic... who am I to say no. Go Hung go. Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank. -
Groovy as hell. I dig that Zentran baby as well. Thanks, G!

Jack Black is......The Green Lantern

yeah... farting hilarious ah, fart both of you. -
I'll admit that he's good at selling stuff to America at large... but I'll maintain that I'm not one of them. I mean, a billion people actually bought Billy Ray Cyrus albums once upon a time... that doesn't neccesarily mean I have to like it.

How could anybody not find him hilarious? Karate by Tenacious D - Simply awesome. -
It would be cool if they did the Shadow Alpha correctly. Especially since the new RT series is all about the Shadow technology, etc. It would be pretty dumb to half-ass it.

Sweet. I'm excited for 2 reasons. 1. This looks pretty cool. 2. I've had my Millia 1J and a GBP bought and paid for, but I was waiting for the stand to come out before I had it shipped to me. So really, I'm getting the last 3 Yamato toys once this is out.

Groovy. Romero's the only zombie movie guy. Everything else is crap. Except for 28 Days Later, which was pretty cool.

Yeah, that Paint It Black opener was the bomb from day one. To be honest, if ToD had been a more popular show, like Miami Vice, they probably would have worked harder to secure the DVD rights to the music. Basically the situation was back then licensed the music for broadcast and re-broadcast... they had no idea that they might one day sell episodes of TV shows for profit - that was crazy talk! And it's really only now that they're starting to see the profit potential of releasing seasons of classic television on DVD, but not enough so that the companies involved feel great about paying the Stones another coupla millions to play Paint it Black on a DVD set that they're not sure how well will sell. For my money, they could've skimped on the music in the show, but you don't lose the opening theme - particularly when it's that damn cool. Go buy Mick and Keith a new Gulfstream and make folks happy.

Pierre Bernard's Recliner Of Rage strikes again.

...it's not? Well... it sorta is true. But not you guys. You guys are cool. It's those other guys. -
Jack Black is......The Green Lantern
Blaine23 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Eh... I kinda hate the Green Lantern anyway. I mean, the GL Corps? Silly. The weakness to the color yellow? Really silly. I dig Jack Black, but only when he's working with funny people, a la Mr. Show, High Fidelity, or School of Rock. So, I don't really care if they make a dumb funny movie about Green Lantern... as long as it's got the right script, director, etc. What would actually be much funnier would be a full on Tenacious D musical. -
how many of you buy doubles of your toys?
Blaine23 replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've only bought more than one of 3 toys. So for me, it's "only if it's really, really, really, really good... and I'm getting it cheap!" -
In this case, I think I'll be more forgiving than usual if the story is weak. I watched that trailer here at work with no sound, and all I could do was sit there with my mouth gaping. The zeppelins, the searchlights, the robots...all of it just looks so very gorgeous. Totally agree with you... it looks so damn cool that it makes me nervous. It's like - "well anything that looks that cool can't be good... can it?" I'm probably being too cynical. As for Angelina and her eyepatch... I didn't mention her to g/f. That's my motivation. She can keep Jude.
-
The visuals are really cool... not so sure about the movie, though. But I'm sure the g/f will want to see it immediately. She thinks Jude's the bee's knees and Gwyneth is some sort of demi-god of fashion.
-
It looks pretty cool to me. I like the small feet/legs because I'm a bit bored on oversized feet in mecha design. Also, I like the way the wings fold along the arms. It's tough to make a transforming jet that doesn't look anything like Kawamori... this one does it well.

Spider-Man 2 review! (spoiler free)
Blaine23 replied to Zeta Otaku's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm dying to... But I'm also dying w/o air conditioning in the deep south in the middle of the summer. Seems I gotta pay the repairman before any purchasing goes down. -
How very, very, very sad. I don't get fanfiction on any level, so I spose RoboPr0n really doesn't seem any worse than some dork's missing episode of Buffy where she meets Highlander.

Eh... the challenge won't be the cast... I actually think all of them could work okay, even none of them could actually carry the film on their own. The main challenge will be how to make a family that saves the world together anything but hokey. The sixties mentality that birthed the FF, not to mention Lost in Space and other such classics just doesn't work today. As for the lovely Ms. Alba... let's just say that I'm much more interested in seeing her play the hottest stripper in Sin City. In chaps.

Spider-Man 2 review! (spoiler free)
Blaine23 replied to Zeta Otaku's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I do think that killing off MJ in a Gwen-style in the next film could add a lot of dramatic weight (and yet more angst) to Spidey. Particularly if Harry accidently killed her... Not only that, but her knowing his secret already is a bit of a drag for future movies. And I also think that, if handled correctly, the multiple villain angle could work. Unlike Batman - who's a fairly boring guy compared to Peter's crazy life - the multiple villains would definitely get less screen time (ie- don't cast Schwarzenegger, Carrey, Thurman, etc). I always loved the Spidey stories where his life seemed to go from crap to crappier and having to deal with fighting the Rhino after being slapped around by the Lizard was always a big part of that. He's not the toughest guy in the world, just the coolest. As for the old school villains... all the ones you named I think could totally make great villains. The Vulture - who says he gotta be old? Well, that old, at least. The Rhino - no sillier than the Hulk or the Thing Mysterio - by name alone he's already interesting! And you could totally lose the fishbowl. Electro - definitely gotta lose the crap on his head. Shouldn't be too hard to come up with a cooler outfit. To me a hissy, whiney, full of teeth threatening former costume like Venom is way lame. "sssssspider!" And for heaven's sake... somebody needs to punch those scripts up to give Spiderman some funny lines. That's totally missing now.
