I imagine it looks quite a bit cooler running around in the dark, at night - like Batman's supposed to do. He does look more than bit silly standing around in a white room. Thank god this isn't a Kubrick film.

You know... when you consider Yamato's progression for MacPlus to 1/60 to 1/48... maybe we're all better off just admitting that the 1/100 VF-0 is simply not designed of us, is not really for the same Macross fans that enjoy all the other toys, and really should be ignored kinda like we mostly ignore the existence of Macross II. We all hate it. The design has rendered it ugly and unfixable. I'd just as soon pretend it was a bad dream I had. Think about it for a minute... if you remove the 1/100 as it was never conceived or designed, then Yamato's on a pretty good track and doing better. To those that hate the Q-Rau, do the same thing. This is all just fandom growing pains. Bandai's pissed off Gundam fans for eons, and won them back, etc. The VF-0 is my first real "I hate that" moment from Yamato, but it's outweighed by a ton of great toys.

Caught a burglar red-handed in my house!
Blaine23 replied to Majestic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm the same way. Not much of a handgun fan - though I do have a few hunting shotguns - I bought a house stuck on the outside edge of a wonderful old rich neighborhood. Unfortunately that outside edge is what we call "funkytown" if you know what I mean. We're basically keeping the border for lotsa rich folks who make sure our property value stays excellent. Anyway, professional or amateur theives would love nothing more than to go in, get your stuff and leave before you know what happened. Most of them have no desire to fight, shoot you and earn an additional 10 years in jail, or brave a mean dog. Luckily I've got two excellent dogs... but I'm buying my first 9mm in a few weeks. It's better to be safe than sorry. You got really lucky, Majestic. I'm glad your story didn't end tragically. But I'd be a bit less Rambo next time, if I was you. You got a baby coming, dude. -
Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st
Blaine23 replied to Blaine23's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's better... I was imagining a really bad Soprano's style CGI shot of Young Anakin's face where Shaw's was. I'm still not real keen on all the changes... I mean, they're fine for some folks - and they're usually hit and miss (like the SE's), some are good, some are "eh", and some are just bad. I can forgive the "errors" of the original movies, though. I prefer them to the SE's and I'm pretty sure I'll prefer them to this edition. I just wish George would act like a real contributor to American film and preserve what was released to the theaters, "warts" and all. I mean, we have people going to great lengths to restore very old films in vaults and digitally cleaning them... meanwhile we're stuck in constant edit mode w/ the Star Wars films. You know what would be cool? A criterion edition theatrical release Star Wars trilogy. Those are folks who would release the movies I love the way I want to see them. And it'd be flattering to King George - they released Kurasawa, his hero. -
I heart die-cast like nothing else, Clay & the rest of my fellow metal-heads. However, I don't think Yamato's been on a downward slide since the 1/48. I don't think the Q-Rau is a bad toy, only an overpriced one, perhaps. As far going on and on about the terrible VF-0, well I have 2 thoughts. 1. No one I know has actually handled one. Hard to bitch about the quality of a toy that isn't even out yet. You may hate the design, as do I... but I can't say a bit about the quality. 2. Why focus on the VF-0 (which is obviously NOT meant to be like the 1/48 at all) instead of the VB-6 Koening Monster which looks awesome. Surely if anything compares to the 1/48 in size and complexity, it's this. I too love die-cast... but the 1/48 works well without much. My dream would be big old die-cast destroids, but I can understand why die-cast is no longer in vogue. Things change and things like die-cast fall out of favor... but that doesn't make Yamato on a downward slide. It's all perspective.

Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st

From DVDfile.com - Wow... I heard the rumors, but I guess they're looking pretty true now. My desire to buy the Theatrical Versions grows even more powerful. -
Please >EXO<, never ever mention your Gayness Measuring Stick ever again. :shudder:

Bummer... I actually thought this thread meant Mike Judge was making a sequel. Peter! Breast Exam's on! And the best way to quit a job is in the movie Half-Baked: "F-you, F-you, F-you, You're pretty cool, F-you, and I'm out."

Like I said, I've got nothing going on with you or Hurin. I've figured out that it's pointless to argue with either of you. I just think it's unfair for AgentONE, who has a problem with Hurin, to single him out. I think the two of you both are at fault here. For the record - Hurin argues verbosely and absolutely will not let an argument die. Old flames tend to crop up in new arguments constantly. See AgentONE's evidence above. Haterist argues almost as much: Don't Discuss Prices on the Boards Asserting that we all get "kickbacks" for promoting various e-tailers Threating to fly across country to whoop ass on Hurin Again, I know you're gonna take this as me defending Hurin or dogging Haterist - but I'm simply trying to keep things balanced here. Neither of these guys is without fault. Both argue all the time, not just with each other And as Max said, the same thing could be said about a good number of folks on the board, myself included. This isn't a clear case like a SkullOne or a BankofKev... it's just two dudes who need to be seperated and given a "time out" like angry children are when they can't play nice.
-
Since I've gotten into it with both of them at different times (and currently am on decent terms with each of them), I can easily say they're both equally at fault here. It takes two people to argue. It only takes one person to stop.

I can think of plenty of other members that I could say the same thing about. Do we really want to start a witchhunt?

Ah, nothing like a sense of entitlement when it comes to toys. LOL... no kidding. I don't really get how some of you figure it costs less to sculpt and design a new toy, the 1/100 VF-0 than it does to re-engineer the 1/48 for 2-seater models. The VF-0 is obviously an attempt to sell to Mac Zero fans in Japan who want something cheap and current. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Yamato will get the hint. I don't have much doubt that we'll see more Vf-1 1/48's in the future. As many have said, it would be foolish not to. I just hope they go to the trouble to make good variants, like the VT-1, VE-1, and VF-1D... not just put out a bunch of limited edition repaints. As much as you guys dig the Low Vis... it would get real old, real quick to alot of collectors.

It's about time. I guess someone figured out that telling fans "friends don't let friends buy bootlegs" was a ridiculous way to try and stop it.

Opinion: Most Annoying Sidekick In Anime
Blaine23 replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Mint sucks, Ed rules. Consider this vote seconded. -
Guld's death may be heroic, but Spike's on Cowboy Bebop was the most surprising and sad.
-
True dat. I totally agree, people should buy what they want to and what they can. I have no problem with people paying higher prices for rarer toys. That's their decision to make. I just thought I'd point out something... if the LowVis went up in price and the VF-1S went up in price... You guys really ought to consider buying the DYRL 1A's (if you can find a Max) while you can. Or expect to be singing this song again in a few months. The VF-1J's will follow. And right now you can get those at a deal.
-
Well... the 1/48 alone makes their track record an improvement over the Mac Plus toys. I agree that it's mostly hit or miss, but each 1/48's been a hit w/ me.
-
Lol... it's like the Low-Viz insanity all over again... "What?!? The VF-1S that I haven't bought for 2 years is now overpriced because people bought them all?!?" "Then, obviously, I must have one now!"
-
I liked the first 2 eps, just watched the 3rd last night... Fun stuff, definitely better than most summer TV, but they better go somewhere with the story otherwise I'll get pretty bored quickly. Super-vigilante on ep3 bored me more than a bit.

The DUTCH factor.. Importance of PREDATOR

Anchorman was awesome! No Arnold = Not a good movie I have a feeling this mantra will outlive us all. Damn you for that, AgentONE. -
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Blaine23 replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
True dat, just messing with you Max, that's all. I used to post on MW daily, till I got a job where they blocked the WWW. Now, the overzealous fanboys don't seem so bad anymore. No worries. I'm used to making guest appearances on members' enemies lists. So its never an issue, people get over it. Look at Jemstone... we had a massive battle back in the day, but now we totally cool. That's what you think... I think she's biding her time, plotting your ultimate doom. But then again, aren't we all? Personally, I think it's the best prequel news I've gotten since the first teaser poster showing kid Anakin with a Vader shadow. This is the sort of thing that fans love about SW, mix in the nostalgia with some well done graphics and melodrama. I see SW take the most heat when Lucas tends to go off in directions that have very little to do with the OT. Great title, cool logo. I really hope it'll be a kickass movie. -
Boy you really missed out on some great toys. I feel bad for you.

The DUTCH factor.. Importance of PREDATOR
Blaine23 replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I saw Predator and RoboCop right around the same time. Much as I do love Predator - it features the only ass-kicking guy named Blaine ever in film - I have to say it didn't redefine SciFi or anything for me. RoboCop made much more of an impression with its cynical humor and it's bigger questions re: humanity and technology. I will say that Predator is easily the second best Arnie movie behind the incredibly awesome Conan the Barbarian. BTW - You mentioned Anchorman, A1 - what did you guys think of it? People either love it or hate it. -
Shopping for a new set of wheels?
Blaine23 replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If I had that car, everyday I get in it and go to work while saying: "Blaine23, a lone crusader in a dangerous world... the world of the Knight Rider." Then I'd push play on the CD player, kick up the theme music. Then I'd go to work. Yeah. That'd make me so damn cool. Wouldn't it? No, I guess it wouldn't.
