Heh... this was solved waaaay to quickly. It started out like some kind of Macross CSI. We found a VF-1J head. No body. Irregular size. Immediately we should secure the scene and collect all kinds of weird evidence and lay them out on a lit table in a dim room, before testing various colored liquids in beakers and firing a gun into a bag of sand. Then we should done all kinds of unneccesary tests on how it was beheaded, the DNA of everyone involved and ultimately concluded that a pissed off Macross fan paid good money for a crap Matchbox Robotech My First Veritech on eBay.

Question about Political Content
Blaine23 replied to the white drew carey's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
Why wouldn't Shawn and Graham want political or religious discussion on MW? Well, it might be because we wouldn't all be grownups and accept each others opinions like adults have to in real life. I've seen members on here have a 10 page flame war over whether or not Macross 7 is "teh gay". I've seen members on here lose their cookies over whether or not Yamato is definitively better than Toynami or Bandai. I won't even go into the very idea of 80+ pages of BS about HG and BW and Robotech, etc. Not that it's all heated debate - but it's space and space on the web costs Shawn money. But let's be real here. Can any of you honestly think that the members around here wouldn't derail threads, flame each other, or act even stupider given the divisive nature of political and religious discussion? I don't think so. And I like all of you guys. Now, since we aren't the guys paying for the site, it's up to us not to waste its space by filling it with crap. Anybody in this thread obviously gives a damn and wants to put in an opinion on what we want/don't want out of MW. "Growing a spine" isn't what this is about. It's about not derailing MW with a bunch of political crap that you can get in a million other places on the web. Now ChrisB's made his statement and removed his sig - which is fine by me... but I don't see any reason for him to be PO'd about it. He supports the Swift Boat Veterans for who they are and his father... but it's not anybody around here's fault that this particular group paid millions to advertise and became a CNN headline. If Michael Moore was my older, much fatter brother, I'd still think twice about putting his name or his movie anywhere around here. Because doing so would only lead to someone misinterpreting it and causing the kind of debate that has nothing to do with Macross. Does that make this a sad world where certain individuals always misinterpret things and are always "too PC?" Maybe. But I don't think so. I think it means that ChrisB's sig was picked out because it was really, really, really easy to be misinterpreted as a 2004 election slogan. IMHO, Chris B didn't necessarily need to remove it, but a bit of clarification wouldn't have hurt either. And ChrisB - if I had misinterpreted your sig and took offense to it - why would I want to PM you about it? One, I have no authority to tell you to remove it. Two, if it was a polical sig, then all I'd get is an argument - which is exactly what I don't want out of Japanese robot hobby site. I think it is best brought up here. In the end, no harm and no foul - and we all understand where you're coming from. So ease up and accept that your father's former military career is a hot political topic and quit calling anybody here a p*ssy. That doesn't help anyone with anything. I, for one, think Macrossworld is better without politics. Not because I'm worried about offending anybody - but because I don't want to have to wade through that crap to find out about Macross. Maybe that's selfish or weenie, but it makes sense in my head. -
I'm not certain if that's been confirmed yet, officially or otherwise. However it does seem to be a good guess, in light of the revised "ghost" scene in Jedi. I guess we'll have to wait until May next year to be sure. The only thing I don't really like about this theory is that it seems that if the "real Anakin" dies in Episode 3, then how was their anything left of Anakin for Luke to redeem from Vader in RotJ? I guess it could be a ghost-in-the-machine type thing where the soul of Anakin is trapped in the machinery of Vader, but I don't see how it would stop his ghost from aging. Ultimately I think this Hayden ghost is just a directorial touch. Lucas wants to tie the prequels into the OT forever, in such a way that you can't pretend the prequels don't exist if you don't want to. As it is now, I can watch RotJ and never once picture Hayden (or Jake Lloyd, thank god) as the guy in the Vader suit. Unless you only watch VHS or buy bootlegs as mentioned in my earlier post. I can only pray that there isn't some hidden "Yipppeee" added to the audio of the ghost scene now in RotJ. I still want to pretend that Darth Vader was never a bad little actor before he became Jedi.

Darkside, shmarkside. This is Lucas' doing. If he didn't want bootleggers making a profit, then he would release the OT on DVD the way many, many fans are asking him to. Either that, or make his own clone army and patrol the world for bootleggers The only difference between your link and paying more for someone else to do the work is that your method is a bit cheaper. It's just as "darkside" as any other filesharing, legally. I look at these OT DVDs as similar to buying boots of Macross in the US. I want to watch what I want to watch and I'm willing to bend the law to be able to do so. The only difference is how much you're willing to bend it and whether or not you feel it's immoral to pay some guy to do the burning for you.

Definitely. They love artistic guys in the corps. I wouldn't go so far as to say "screw education", but you do have a point. Working hard can get you alot of places without the bother. But I've never seen an education be a detriment to landing a great gig. If anything, those without usually wonder if it was their lack of a degree that cost them one. What you are taught in school may not mean jack in the office, but it shows an HR goon that you are a not a quitter and that somebody out there reccommends you and puts the name of their university behind your own. I've seen a great many good candidates for jobs get turned down simply because a company didn't want to risk the uncertainty of hiring someone without a degree. It's always a shame and said candidate usually groans and wishes he'd never quit. When you think about how much time we waste in other stupid follies that we barely remember a year later - doesn't it make sense for a guy to go ahead and put that time and energy to make sure he's at least conisdered for the jobs he might want in the future? Crap, I sound like my mother. But you get the point. College may not be really necessary, but that stupid piece of paper can mean a difference of 10K a year (or much, much more) in many jobs.

I'd vote for the MPC Convoy, but y'know... it took them 20 plus years to get that one finally right. And admittedly it is awesome, huge, and full of die cast goodness. But my vote has to go the large Gakken Mospeada Cyclone. They got it damn near perfect the first time. Waaaaaaay ahead of it's time with one of the best and most complicated transformations ever. It only suffers from a slight lack of articulation in the rider figure, but other than that the toy is as perfect as a 1/48 valk. Gakken's Cyclone was too good for the stinky little kids that bought them. Including me.

YF-19FP SACRIFICE. What could you do without?
Blaine23 replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
I'm personally not interested in Yamato re-releasing the original YF-19 but with the additon of FPs. While it looks OK in Battroid mode it really, really sucks bad (IMO) in fighter mode. Eh... at this point, I'd be happy with a re-release of the YF-19 with the original colors and FP addons. The VF-19A was much improved over their earlier releases and hopefully they've learned even more since then. As bad as the fighter mode is, it still looks better than the crappy 1/100 VF-0 they're going to proudly release. I'd just as soon have them reissue the 1/72 and get to work on a bigger, better sculpt of the YF-19 FP alltogether. -
I haven't seen a yellowed reissue yet... but then again, most yellowed Bandai/Takas are over 20 years old. I love the reissues' plastic, updated heatshields and tampo printing. I only wish they'd made more of them. But that's an old, sad song...

You'd definitely forget all about the Greedo scene because then you'd be overwhelmed with bile at having not only seen but actually paid to see that godawful nightmare. Now, if they just took the Boba Fett cartoon from the Holiday Special and added it as bonus footage, that'd be pretty cool. It's the only decent few minutes in the whole thing, and it's still crappy by today's standards. The rest of it... you just want to forget you ever saw it. New scenes look fine to me. No worse than the last round of "fix-ups". Ultimately I'd just like to have whatever version Lucas settles on and the original side by side on my DVD shelf. Maybe in 2007.

I don't know jack about California art schools... But I know what it's like to be 25 and "in between" art, real life, education, and fear. Look... first of all, lose the fear. You're only 25, not 50. Believe me, you will be 30 one day and you'll wonder where the time went. Second, pick a school - not necessarily the best, but something you could afford if you work hard and possibly get a student loan. Third, realize that "hanging out" is a luxury, just like anything else and be prepared to give up most of that free time to trying to finish your goal. Fourth, try and get a job - even one that possibly pays less than your gov't gig - that is IN the field you want to work in. No one will ever "pluck" you from there to work in design or art. You have to get out of any safe zone in order to do what you want. There are cheap jobs in advertising, marketing, etc. Watch your local classified and get your ass in the door, even if it's in the mailroom. What you don't realize is that though the field you want is artistic - you don't have to be world's greatest in order to have a very successful career. What employers look for primarily is character, loyalty, ambition, and brains. Who needs an artistic genius you cannot rely on? I've worked in several ad agencies and more often than not, the artists are primarily counted on to be professional and timely - more than they are expected to be award winners. Believe in yourself and push yourself and you can make this happen. I know because I've done it and so have many others. You can lament that you're starting late or that others have it easier, but ultimately what happens next is up to you, Neko. Just remember this before you start. Starting to change your life is easy. The real trick is continuing at it for years and not falling into "safe zones." Not trying to sound like Tony Robbins here - but the majority of your struggle is against yourself. Go do it.

calorie count of alcoholic beverages?
Blaine23 replied to do not disturb's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Word. I have ladies in my office constantly attacking each other for zero this or zero that cookies. I bring a bag of apples or peaches or bananas to work and they look at me as if I'm from another planet. It's called fruit, people. It's good for you. -
Question about Political Content
Blaine23 replied to the white drew carey's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
I gotta agree with WDC and JSA. It's an election year, the USA is divided pretty much in halves and I don't really need to drag it here. As for JSA's list of "527-style" sigs - Pro-Life - it's religion + politics - double no. Move-on - easily politics, just like swiftvets NRA - well, I think we're all aware of Graham's fondness for guns... Nah. I don't see the NRA as being a one party group. I can't imagine that it would potentially offend half the members here, unlike ChrisB's sig. I mean, anybody that puts a political message in his sig must be crack to think I'm going to change my personal politics based upon what some guy on an anime messageboard puts in his "personal signature" space. So what's the point? Let's all go back to putting funny slogans, links, and quotes and talk Macross, Anime, etc. -
Question about Political Content
Blaine23 replied to the white drew carey's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
I think it's a bad idea. JSA - you yourself said you don't mind ChrisB's sig, because it's small and unassuming... but that's a pretty fine line for mods to tread. I think it's a yes or no thing, really. And I lean towards no. I mean, the reason we don't do politics & religion here is because our mutual appreciation of Macross has nothing whatsoever to do with it. The two subjects only lead to argument and wasted bandwidth. I don't see why your sig would be any different than content posted to the board - it still has nothing to do with Macross and it will only cause problems. I'm just fine with keeping my politics to myself while on Macrossworld. I don't see any reason why anybody would mind. -
My 1D is definitely a bit floppier than my VF-1S Strike or VF-1J 1/60's, but not really that bad at all. You can pose it easily, it just doesn't feel as tight as the others. I wouldn't complain too much for that price, though.

They aren't Mospeada toys, they're Mospeada model kits, repackaged as Gobot model kits. They basically had a good leader (Leader 1, a Jet) and a bad leader (Cy-Kill, a motorcycle), so they released these two Mospeada kits, even though they bear almost no resemblance to the characters they are supposed to represent. Sort of thing happened alot back in the day. Transformers itself is nothing more than a bunch of toys rereleased with a different name and storyline. As was Robotech, essentially... and Battletech. As for TurboTeen... there's no real explanation other to say it was a godawful cartoon that apparently got it's own crapass ripoff model kit too. I'd like to pretend I never saw it, actually.

Yep, my grandma, uncles, aunts, and cousins all live in and around Sanford, FL ( and no, they do not know Alex Medina! ) which is basically right outside Orlando. They are prepping for the worst, but hopefully this one won't level anything.

I get the joke that Last Action Hero is a spoof... I just never thought it was very funny. That kid annoyed the crap out of me. Arnold's not really at his best doing comedy. Twins was about as good as it gets in that arena.
-
Definitely not that great... not to mention with only 3 made, it's not like some sort of high priced "fanboy-gouger" like convention exclusives, toy store exclusives and the like. This is just a promotional giveaway - no more, no less. I am for sure not very interested in it, because it's non-canon AND ugly. Of course, those were my same reasons for not buying the Low-Vis. But I'm definitely in the minority on that one.

Thanks for the awesome pics, Noel! The Yamato Monster and Garland look great. Everything else (the VF-0S) and the lack of anything else (new 1/48's) is pretty much a let down. I hope Yamato has more to show next year.

I guess I'd say Transformers G1, since I still have so many on the shelf - but that series wins by sheer numbers, y'know? I can think of several toy lines that I like as much or more, but they didn't release nearly as many things for me to buy. Gakken's Mospeada - Mainly, the large scale Cyclone & Alpha, two of the best toys released in the 80's, IMHO Dougram Gundam DX - why there are 8 ga-jillion MSIAs and only so few 10-12" Gundam toys is truly beyond my comprehension LEGO - I don't really think of this as a "toy line" per se. Back when I was a kid, you bought the different space ships and then designed your own stuff. I'd rather die than build a Lego Millenium Falcon or Harry Potter's Crib. To me, these were simply building blocks to use your imagination with. Nightmare Before Xmas - some of the greatest designs ever - they look and feel exactly like they walked out of the movie.

Funny movie site. 100 worst movies of all time
Blaine23 replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just because something is slow don't mean it's bad. It's rather hard to compare 2001 to Cobra or Stop or my Mom will Shoot. [HAL]"What are you doing, Sly?"[/HAL] Seriously though, you could probably flesh out an entire bottom 100 list just using the stinkers from the Sly Stallone and Burt Reynolds catalog. Cop and a Half? Stick? Rent-A-Cop? Gator? Burt may be the Bandit, but he's in some awful films. For the record, I consider 2001: A Space Odyssey to be the best sci/fi film ever made. -
I lurked for a long time myself - it was much scarier in the days when you count on a 4-1/2 page lecture from a certain banned member if you mentioned the word, "Robotech". But I did have the sense not to make an introduction thread.

Ah... Sam Elliot said the same thing to Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse.

For more info on ARAFAT209 - see pages 5 -10 of the MW Blacklist in the For Sale forum. But he was funny with his silliness. I always liked this pic Hurin made of him.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Blaine23 replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
True enough. I just wish people wouldn't act so surprised each time one of the prequels "isn't what they'd imagined." "The first Trilogy will not be as much of an action adventure kind of thing. Maybe we'll make it have some humor, but right now it's much more humorless than this one...a little more Machiavellian - it's all plotting - more of a mystery." George Lucas, 1982 I'll agree that Lucas can do whatever he wants and that alot of people bitch about the dumbest things... But I'll be damned if I've noticed a damn thing is Episode I and II that seemed remotely Machiavellian or mystery. I've read every Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie novel, as well as The Prince, by Machiavelli. SW just simply isn't even comparable. What most of the people complain becabout are silly parts that seem completely out of place or that just don't really work - like Midichlorians, Jake Lloyd's existance, or the completely unbelieavability of Anakin and Padme's supposed "romance." I still like the movies okay - but I don't delude myself and say the GL is some kind of tortured artist working solely for love of his dream. The guy sells damn near any SW merchandise conceivable and he lets hack authors write terrible novels based on his "dream". Somewhere in between those two extremes is your real answer. He's not only in it for the money and neither is he Van Gogh. He seems passionate about trying to advance alot of things in movies - namely special effects and imagination - but let's be fair, he's making a fair deal of dough at it, too.
