That's been one of the issues here as of fairly late. How many Robotech fans actually watch and enjoy anime? From what has been discussed, and by examples just like what you're saying, they aren't anime fans at all, but more so fans of nostalgia itself. I'm sure one of the morons will say "yeah, I'm just not an otaku like those Macross purists are," but of course, they'd probably be considered skirting the issue. I don't know anyone here who is overly obsessed with the subject, but most Robotech fans that I'm kinda familiar with, have no freakin' clue about any anime today, save for Gundam, and maybe one or two popular shows on Adult Swim. Is that wrong, no, not at all, but when those same people try to judge a show like Macross Frontier, they usually come off as idiots who have no clue what they're talking about, and always fall back to comparing it to a 26+ year old show.

I have 1 of the A, 1 of the S, ad 2 of the J kits. I never bothered looking at the decals, as I just never saw the need to replicate a fighter that you can simply buy with the details tamp printed. I was thinking of making one of my J types like the Macross the First style, For the second, I want to do something completely original. For the 1S, I plan to do a Minmay Guard, and the 1A, well, maybe something completely original.

That's just F!@#in' wrong in so many ways.

If it's out there already, I'm not going to slap anyone's wrist for getting it, whether the movie, or a scanlation, I don't think anyone here is going to be putting it up though, nor am I going to put up the scanlations I have. Maybe it isn't crossing the line, but well, I'm sure you understand where I'm coming with that.

Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie

Tried on the armor pack, it's a bit busy, but looks pretty menacing. I really like the extra wing space, still wish it had hard points like the VF-1. -
I say we call it planet Eden, and set up a large base there to test transformable fets.

That red 17, and the red 19S for that matter, are test cast in red, as red will show stress marks and cracks much easier than any other color. White in just about impossible, so that's why there's a red 17 there. If it can be handled, transformed, and played with, without the signs of stress marks, the designer, the factory, and all involved did their job. That's what they're looking for.

I'm probably not the official person to give you an answer, but if it does get the scanlation, it'll probably be with people who bought the books, if anything. Putting these up for everyone to copy so they don't have to buy them is counter-productive, and on a board that favors the franchise, would be hypocritical to that belief. That said, if you haven't bought the books, but have watched SDF Macross, I encourage you to buy them anyways. It follows the original to some extent, the art is second to none, and you can get the gist of what is going on just by looking at the pics. Everyone I know that has bought them, even though they don't read Japanese, has enjoyed the books, and doesn't regret the purchase.

Yamato 1/60 VF-19 Fire Valkyrie (v2.0)

It's a supplement piece, so I wouldn't expect it to be a beaming review. It's like reviewing the boosters on a fast pack set, in a way. If it's going to be a review of the booster, I would suggest adding it to the review of the 19 Kai. Just my suggestion, but reviewing part of something as an individual piece doesn't make much sense to me. -
I may hate everything about that, but that is still a great shot.

Replied to your email, and I may have a fix for the software. I'll probably have an answer on monday or tuesday when I get back home.

Add me to the list for now. Thanks.

SDF Macross also shows the head laser as a cutter, using a steady stream to cut through what looks like a steel door to get to Misa inside Alaska base. Are the guns inside the 21's arms at that type of power, where they are defensive/tool like? As for the 22 and the guns in the storage bays, I wonder why Kawamori didn't just keep the guns on the outside? They look great on the YF-21, and look more menacing than them being in the hidden bays.

Love this freakin' toy. My wife came in, saw it on my table, and said, "'I'm not an expert on these, but that looks very nice." So, words from a non toy Macross fan.

The issue I have with the Akira movie, and it's probably just me, but in most anime, the characters don't have distinct nationality features. Well, if anything, they look mostly white, if not mixed. In Akira, Kaneda looks asian. While not a major issue, it occured to me that most of these cartoon/anime made movies don't even try to make the characters look like they do in the originals. Is it just me, or does that bother anyone else. My opinion is that some of these replica movies take too many liberties. Robotech, by some remote chance that it actually does happen, won't look anything like the original Macross, but for these others, I dunno.

Got mine today. BAD@SS. Solid, like the kai, like the bigger size of the gun, and the pilot is probably the best one yet. His suit is very detailed, and is a full size pilot, not the stubby ones.

Poll- Which Macross/Robotech mecha would you like to see
Jasonc replied to Maiden Japan's topic in Toys
Why are people voting on the Glaug, if they already have a prototype of it? It's like me voting to see a new VF-25S come out next by Bandai. -
I think you're right about expectations, especially when it comes to fans that get stuck in the vintage box. His statement is arrogant at best, and comes off as the fan whom all should set their bar to. In his review, it really just comes off as someone who doesn't know anime like they are claimed to know. As for the RT fans, the lunatic fringe has it set to where the only thing that can be better than original Robotech, is set by better packaging for the same series. I try to keep an open mind when watching any anime series. Some, I find, not to suit me, and some that I never expected to like have me hooked. There are things that I didn't like all that much about Frontier, but if I judge an anime's worth by how much nostalgia I have for it since I was a kid, then no matter how fancy I write a review, or how eloquent I structure my words, I've already tunnel visioned the series, and my analysis is flawed, unless it's purely objective. I'm almost interested in knowing what that guy's reasons for appreciating Macross are? I'll bet they cover many, many people who are fans of Frontier. Then again, if one of his reasons are because it helped get Robotech over to the U.S., then I defer to my first paragraph and the first half of this one.

Maybe this???http://sdf5x.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html. It sounds like he didn't like Frontier because he thinks it might just be a copy of SDF Macross. In previous blogs, Capt. JLS make some judgement, calling it unsubstantial and whatnot, and judges it based on one episode. In the link, his friend writes a review of it that he seems to side with, even though he's watched one episode. The review seems to come from a Robotech fan who supposedly knows about anime, and is probably a Robotech fan.

The Invid would be my vote, as for the same amount of material, the Invid can be in scale to go with the Alphas. The pods were cool, but 1/100 scale is not a scale that I think people really collect. Just my thoughts on that. -

Dana looked the best out of all of the "Women of Robotech", too. Aside from her baggy military outfit, It wasn't so bad. I like how Dana has time for a workout after battle. It's like she's ready to become Olivia-Newton John in Xanadu. (singing) Xanaduuuu, Xanaduuuu, now we are here.... Ugh

I'll have to look through my books. I have a pretty loaded library of books, magazines, and non-Macross specific print that has a lot of Macross art in them. Perhaps I can help you find what you're looking for. I assume that the mecha you're looking for isn't in the Chronicles publications, so maybe in the movie books that were released? Even if those alternate sections had non-canon disclaimers, or whatnot, it'd be great to be able to find everything, and I mean everything. I actually went there yesterday, hoping to find a section on weapons specifically, which would be another great feat to pull off. Being able to find stuff like the GU-11D, the capabilities of the missiles in Mac Plus, and so on, would be great as well. While I don't expect all that, it's cool that you guys are still being attentive to the site. Some of the list of valks you had up there from Macross the Ride don't have line art, would you simply just put in the pics of the model kits?
-
Great stuff there. I should put up more of my cels, but I've been lazy. I have a couple of Golden Boy (the motorcycle lady and the main character), as well as several Macross 7 cels. I should take a picture of them, since I practically have all my posters put up on this site.
