Strike A Pose! V.4 - The Macross Mech Pose Thread
Jasonc replied to JCSaves's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
These pics are awesome. I'm envious of the displays you guys have. -
I understand people are going to point out the flaws of the design, but at this stage, it's like telling a baker to put the eggs in when all he's done so far is get out the flour. I do like the angled up nose better, but as this is only a CAD design to date, they probably already have some of the initial corrections written down. I'm sure theirs already been changes to what we are seeing now, meaning, put the panic button in the fridge for awhile. As for the feet, I prefer the original looking block feet. It looks more aesthetically similar to the overall design.

Why do they wait so long to release a Macross Series?
Jasonc replied to leading edge's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think the Macross franchise releases new series in a decent amount of time. With Gundam, they release series more often because many of the spinoffs aren't canon. Because of that, casual Gundam fans can just jump into the series of their choosing, and run with it. If you look at the frequency of the U.C. storyline, it's spread out a bit more. I wouldn't be surprised if after Gundam the Origin comes out, if we don't see a Macross: The Origin, or Macross the First animated series. I think the success of Gundam the Origin will bring the viability of a new Macross origin series. That said, if they did Macross series every 5 years, I think they'd be in a great swing of things. There is a lot to plan for series, and as long as the quality is there, if it takes longer, I'm OK with that. Just as long as it doesn't take 20+ years like another similar franchise. -
That's most likely the case. I'm almost positive that once a sculpt comes in, they'll make necessary adjustments. As for a base model, it looks very good. Very promising indeed.

Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie
Jasonc replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yeah, definitely is. Although, I coulda sold about 10 more of these YF-29s to cover the total cost. -
If you're gonna do it, best to do it right. I don't think you want it to have shortcomings of being pixelated and all, especially with all the brilliant and hard work you put into it.

It doesn't transform, but it does create anima spiritia, and with it, I will transform your heart. "Listen to my SONG!" -
I'll be on the lookout for the new content. I don't want to rebuy updated copies of what I already have. I'm kinda pissed that they'd redo all of it, instead of just putting out supplementals as well. Nevertheless, for those that don't have the first run, This maybe a great time for you. I can enjoy your excitement.

Thanks, I should take pics of the rest of the shelves, as it's mostly manga below, as well as some comics, and other stuff. I didn't picture the Macross the First manga, the Frontier, Trash, SDF Macross, or any of those others. I may need a book shelf just for Macross books.

Yamato 1/60 VF-17 Nightmare Diamond Force
Jasonc replied to charger69's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Agreed!!! I used some old 1/72 scale Haesgawa decals and mine came out great. Speaking of, if the do reissue this with tamp printing, I'm never buying another Yamato fresh off the press again. I'm sure there'd be so many pissed off fans here, it'd probably have a negative backlash. -
That reissued 1/3000 SDF-1 looks more colored than the original. Maybe I just haven't seen it in forever, but it looks really good.

I think it was Asylum, that does those SyFy crap made for t.v. movies. I also agree. HG isn't using the franchise for a tax write-off. If they were, the RT dept. there would be the biggest fools for not being able to figure it out. In reality, I think the franchise makes money. As seen over the last decade or so, we're just seeing the remaining group with no talent for writing. Tom Bateman was pretty much their last hope there, and there's quite a few people who I think agree with that.

Maybe puttng nail polish on the male connector that holds the missiles to the wings might help, but if anything, it may only be a temp fix.

That's never been my style. Besides, they verbally "pie" themselves in their marketing, excuses, and their, for lack of a better word, lame ideas. I just need sit back with my popcorn, and call it as it comes.

There are resins that are really strong. There are a few that have aluminum in them, and seem stronger than the original part, but I haven't seen anyone recast with those types, and they aren't color castable. If you're talking about regular resin, then I'd say it doesn't make it stronger. I haven't heard too much about having to clear coat it before priming and all that, but you do have to sand them to get the scaled lines out, as well as try to get rid of the sponginess that some of the materials used in the growing process give. A good primer should fix that.
-
No problem. I know there are quite a few 1/48 fans here, so I'm sure they'd be very happy to see this done to that scale. I'm probably going to split the CAD work up, and do half on the VA-3, half on this.

As far as making durable parts, I would't consider the materials that Shapeway uses, very durable. Their white strong and flexible material is a plastic, but feels like ceramic. Basically, it's a powder that is mixed with a hardener from what I understand, so it's not bonded like injection plastic is. I think if you're looking to make shoulder fixes for Yamatos, or any type of replacement parts, if it's going to be something you move a lot, is going to take on weight, and it needs a lot of durability, that material may not be the one to use. The new printer that came out this year that does ABS maybe the way to go, but again, I don't know how it's cured on the ABS machine. If it's the same way, it's never going to be as sturdy as the original part. I use Shapeways myself, and it works, just not for everything.

I remember at Anime Expo people were asking about either the distributor, or the studio that was working on the LLA project, and he did mention that he'd have an announcement regarding all that before the end of the year. Oh well, go figure.

It's kinda found it way under the rocks of the Maya Islands. http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazines/mg-oct2002-page-21.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazines/mg-oct2002-page-23.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazines/mg-oct2002-page-24.jpg This was an old kit bash, it appears, that was done almost 10 years ago and converted to transform.
-
I just remembered something!!! Didn't Kevin McKeever promise to have an update on the distributor or something like that regarding the LLA project before January 1st? Somehow, everyone at HG, rtx, and rt.com conveniently forgot that, or I missed it in my scan of the websites.

In looking at the CG colors of the VF-25S, the new GE-55 Bandai release isn't too far off at all. The slight shade difference isn't a deal breaker by any means. Overall, this version of the toy is probably going to be the definitive version. If that is the case, I'm thoroughly satisfied with what has come out. This thing is going to be super badass once the armor parts come out.

Quick shot of my books on the shelves. I didn't take a pic of all the Macross manga on the third shelf cause it's a bit cluttered, and I have lots of other books there, too.

Meeting someone with common interest is one thing. Having the skills to not f!@# it up by being a super nerd, or using Robotech as a pickup is another.
