  1. I'll chime in on the title of the thread. Macross is what used to be. It's a show about the same fighters that transform into robots, with singing girls, a love triangle, aliens, drama, action, and an overall vehicle designed to sell merchandise on a highly successful level. It seems like what is left to argue about is what little differences there are in between them that don't make it an exact copy of SDF Macross and DYRL. In that case, of course they're not the same. If you want the exact same, hit replay on your DVD.
  2. There's always the unassembled kits, that have a white unpainted, unassembled figure you can paint.
  3. I hope it does come with a Mylene figure. Down the line, I'm really going to have to make the sound booster play music with real speakers.
  4. Gotta agree. All the craziness with the 171 and the 29 is just way too much to stress over. This, I know, is solid.
  5. Preorder goodness!!!
  6. Saw it, and it was just OK. Not a great movie by any means. The camera work was horrible, and for awhile there, I was getting a little motion sickness, which is very hard for me to get. I liked Batlle Royale better. As for the idea of skipping all the book turned movie in favor of books, I'm not a movie or book snob, so I don't think you're any better or worse off by watching them. I thought this would be a good movie to watch, and it was just OK. I enjoyed John Carter more.
  7. No, just making a comment that I liked it, in both languages. (Not saying that you are) I'm not the "Anime Snob" type. Whatever you enjoy works.
  8. No problem, I should've mentioned that I've tried the Testors sheets, and they don't work that well. They leave a silvering effect that makes them look like decals, and not like painted symbols.
  9. Nothing needed this time around. Put up some other stuff.
  10. It looks fantastic. I have my preorder in, so I'll be super anxious to see this on Blu-ray. If you guys can't get the rare set, you shouldn't worry too much. Save yourself some money and get the regular set.
  11. Yeah, it's a bit tricky with those two, but I usually go with HLJ simply because of their customer service. They'll quickly and easily replace broken parts. Haven't heard anything either way in regards to Amiami. Speaking of this release, I still can't figure out if I want one or not. I guess I'll keep looking, and if it happens to pop up in one of the places I order from, I'll get one. If not, oh well.
  12. There are other decal sheets that are much better. Can't remember where I got mine from, but the ones I ordered are very sturdy, and very high quality. I would advise to look online for other manufacturers. Testors is OK, but if you want better quality, it's out there.
  13. In regards to shipping, Amiami has always sent me large boxes as well. I think it's usually a better deal to go with hlj, and use Fedex. It's a little cheaper, and Fedex gets me my packages withing 3-4 days.
  14. That part was very funny. This entire series is just comedy throughout. What makes it even funnier, is the fact that Tony Oliver does like 4 or 5 voices in it. There's quite a few times he's basically talking to himself.
  15. Looks great so far. Definite buy if they don't markup the hell out of it.
  16. But that's stuff you take issue with after you watch it. I don't think that contributed to the poor sales. I wanted to see this, and did, but right before seeing it, I had absolutely no clue what it was about. That is a problem, especially in thi day and age, where people want the previews to give the entire plot away before even seeing the movie. It's one thing that drives me nuts about previews these days, where they give away every great line, and every good action sequence. What ends up being left by the time you get to the actual movie, is how the characters get from point A to Z. While the previews for this movie didn't do that, people wanna know, and the lack of proper advertising really hurt it.
  17. Those swing bars in the diagram probably need to be diecast, or some other alloy. I think Yamato's quality materials, as opposed to resin or soft plastics, will make the mechanism work just fine.
  18. Man, I thought this was the VF-4 thread Glad the Phalanx is coming. I hope there's more pics coming of the VF-4. I know September is a ways away, but some early prototypes would be awesome.
  19. I sincerely hope this hasn't moved to the vaporware status. It looks so freakin' cool.
  20. Yeah, that's still way too much for what you're getting. Still not worth it in my opinion.
  21. Everything is cool, except for the outrageous prices. It's 81,900 yen for Gatchaman, roughly over $900 for the series on blu-ray. There's not going to be enough improvement to warrant paying through the nose for a series I have as Robotech, and the Mospeada title on DVD.
  22. Or there's too many that think before they leap.
  23. So, you really didn't understand the story then, did you? Part of the story is realizing that people (characters in this case) die, and for no reason, too. While I know you're trying to make a point solely based on your opinion, you're trying a bit too hard to get everyone to see this aimless point of yours. There were a few others that wrote about how they didn't care for it, and left it at that. They're not trying to give a full thesis on why we shouldn't like a series. Personally, I found the show fun to watch, the characters easy to get (if not a little over emotional), and the story makes sense to me. Maybe I'm just on the ball with it a little more. If it was so bad, I don't think it'd be a classic, and it's not just because Gundam is a big franchise. There are plenty of Gundam series and movies that don't cut it. LOL, I don't hate Southern Cross, but that would answer a few questions. As for dubs vs. subs, this is probably the wrong forum, but I don't care either way. It's ease and comfort with dubs, but it depends on the production team as to just how far from the original translation will go. As for subs, I've seen some bad subs, but the current subber groups out there are pretty damn accurate, and don't deviate from the original Japanese. I think you get the original intent with good subs, but you can also get that with a good dub. I think it really just depends on everyone's personal preference, and shouldn't strike against them for preferring one over the other. The only thing that irks me, is people that get a little pissy because "they only watch subs". Trust me, they aren't any higher up on the food chain because of it, they only think they are. Anyways, to get back on topic, started rewatching Full Metal Panic, after almost 10 years. Can't believe that show is that old already. Watching it just for the heck of it, and it's really not too bad. Also started watching Tenchi Muyo GXP. Freakin' hilarious series. Also been watching Rurouni Kenshin, The Wandering Samurai series.
  24. I used to put these together back in the day, and if you get just the basic sets first, there's a lot you can do to them, with little work. It's actually a lot of fun putting them together, and tricking them out to what you want. After reading this, and seeing some displays put out there, I am thinking about doing another one. The last one I did was about 7 or 8 years ago, and had controls to move and lower a crane arm, rotate part of the hangar floor, and tons of lights.
  25. I agree it was very "mysterious" in the previews. I didn't even know what it was about, but in watching it, it was well worth the ticket price. I've seen it twice, and it was just as fun the second time. It's a shame that it didn't do well at all. It doesn't look like they were planning on doing a sequel, but in my opinion, this is probably one of the better movies to do this bad.
