Alright, after tomorrow, I can work on the new mold for the wing. It's looking great now, and I'm really happy with how this looks.

Macross World Podcast - feedback & comments

I think most of us made it clear that there are things we can nitpick about it, but at the same time, being only one episode, and in going by Kawamori's own quotes, he does seem to suggest that the show IS going to go in different moods and tone of the story, so I wouldn't reserve one preview episode to this being all. Also, I believe Gubaba pointed out an interesting idea that I seem to agree with, which is the idea that the short segment that everyone judges this as being a magical girl show may just be a nod, and probably is. I doubt that we'll see that sequence again, and most likely, being a preview episode with so many characters, this isn't going to be a common feel. I didn't have a problem with it, simply because I'm not going to judge a show on a brief sequence of animation. Even if it is going to be a common thread, it'll be up to the creators to recognize if it's a success or failure in going that route. It wouldn't be the first thing from Macross I disliked, but there are quite a good number of great things to take away from this.- 1147 replies

Yes, the originals are being done (were being done) on a Form 1 3D printer. This latest piece was done through Shapeways' FUD printer, which I couldn't tell you the printer model. As spanner76 has correctly stated, the copies will be done in a Smoothcast 305 resin. It's got some flexibility in its properties, and is still pretty solid as far as resin goes. There are other resins that have ABS properties, but you'd be looking at a kit that cost at least double.

The new drone wing is in the process of being primed and sanded to take out the scale lines. So far, it's coming out pretty well the panel lines look great.

Welcome to the boards. Your DD set looks great. Glad to finally see someone put on the alternate outfits. I haven't done it yet, but definitely can't wait to do so. I finally got my 2nd Sheryl in, so I'm holding onto it until A) I have a place to display that with one of the alternative outfits or 2) I sell it for a decent price to someone who will take care of it. I'm thankful that you posted up the link for the dual stand. It looks like there's not add to cart for it, so I assume it's out of stock? I may end up just making my own, if I can't get any luck in getting that one, or the other posted above. Keeping my options open.

Let's just keep it as a mistake. Honestly though, if they're gauging interest to do subs, subs don't cost that much. To add to that, they're not uncommon like they were 5-6 years ago. The guys that did the subs for the Shudista box set did a great job, and I'd hope for them to get back on board for bluray sets of this series. Maybe that Shudista box set wasn't enough to gauge interest, but it sure made a lot of fans happy and did increase the interest in it inside the U.S., as well as other parts. Because of that, while technically it could be a gauge, I highly doubt it is one, and most likely just some strange error. I doubt this is hurting anything of HG's sales, as they really don't have any, and nothing in this relates to what they make, produce, or create for a screen. -
You're welcome. Again, sorry for any sort of delays. I love the progress now, but these little setbacks are to be expected, especially when color casting, making clear parts, and trying to do it amidst bad weather and other unforseen problems. I will say, I'm very happy with the new part. It only requires some smoothing of the scale lines and some good primer, but I should be pounding the kits out after this is the only part left.
-
Hey guys, sorry for the delay in updates. Between being sick and all the holidays, I've been recasting parts as much as I can for the 1/72 kit, and it's just about done. As of a few days ago, I just got the new wing section for the kit, so now I will be spending some time cleaning it up. It looks pretty clean right out of the box, but it does have plenty of scale lines to clean up, and is gonna take some time to clean up, primer, and get it ready for new mold. Aside from that, parts are still coming out. Just about done with the1/72 guys. It's a lot of work, and I wish I had more space to work, but it's getting there.

Oddly, this made me cheer a bit, and not in a way that agrees with this comment. -
I'm really loving this story. I also like the little extras you throw in there, such as the merchandise that drops on the floor. Good additions. I can't wait to see where all this goes.

Macross Δ (Delta) - NYE Special Talkback - READ 1st POST

In reading all that, it seems you are the one who took it personally. As an outsider in that part of the conversation and having no dog in that fight, this statement clearly shows you took it personally enough to respond with the default "Don't take it personally..." comment. He was clearly just pointing something out. Calm down, man, It's a cartoon ffs. In other news, I've seen it 4 times. 3x by myself, once with my wife. She enjoys it, although she does say it's different. Not bad, just different. I happen to be really happy with it. There are a few negatives that may just be due to it being unfinished, but they aren't things that detract from the story. They're more technical aspects of it. That said, I actually really like all the music in it, but especially Ikenai Borderline. It's got a mid 90s ska sound to it, with a bit of an update. It reminds me quite a bit of a band called Save Ferris that retired a number of years ago. They had a few upbeat ska tunes that hit this type of catchy draw. If people are so against idol music here, that may be one song you can at least enjoy more. If not, to each their own. It's the least "idol" song I've heard since before Frontier (where Zero had hardly anything anyways). -
Nice display spanner76. What Regult is that in the background. That's not the Yamato one, is it?

Macross Δ (Delta) - NYE Special Talkback - READ 1st POST
Jasonc replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Definitely not speaking for me on this one. I saw SDF Macross in 1984, and have, for the most part, been a fan ever since. It's those elements that make it what it is, and what ties every series, OVA, and movie together. I know nostalgia has a lot to do with this, but I think a lot of it is just the aging fans. Most who fans who give up trying to adapt to newer anime styles (this is in general) seem to have a hard time liking newer titles as the tides shift and change. I had to struggle with that a few years ago myself, but in settling things and actually seeing it for what it is, I have no problems with it. As for my own thoughts on this first episode of Delta, I'm really excited about it. There were some short areas where the picture quality seemed to need more clean up, but overall, it seems to be on par for a good series. I'm interested to see how the episodes will change, but so far, it's a fast ride with lots to look forward to. There's no point in me trying to compare it to the original Macross or anything after that. They've all had their own evolution process, and each one has been very different from he previous. I'm happy to go on this journey once again. -
Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Jasonc replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
I have a feeling that if the military sci-fi Macross fans don't like this, it's going to do well for new fans, maybe in the same way Frontier did, but perhaps not in that scale. I'm looking forward to it, even if I can't watch it right away due to being at a concert later tonight.- 2715 replies

My wife and I both buy cels, and I don't see myself selling them. My reasoning behind that, is that they are art works. Whether or not it's specifically Macross or not, each one of these original cels are one of a kind, and at some point, I'd like to frame a number of them. As far as collecting in general, I may, at some point, start selling stuff off, but money is never an issue when it comes to buying hobby stuff. Not in the fact that I'm rich by any means, it's just that I buy when I can, not when I can't. If it gets to be a problem where I can't, I simply pass. Stuff comes up all the time that I'd like to get, so it's just a matter of self-control and knowing the limits. The good thing is, at least this stuff would sell well if it needed to be sold.

Got mine on Monday. Love it. Haven't transformed it yet, but I'll probably do that today. I did manage to take it out, and it's solid, sturdy, and very sleek, compared to the previous version.

I never got mine for the monster or this, and didn't get any messages. Are they still available?

This comment is a bit baffling. I need not say any more about this. Thanks for putting up the podcast. I'm excited to see it.I still walk into these not expecting what I saw prior. Macross as a franchise has always had a way of diversifying the plot, the characters, and many other technical aspects of it that keep it different.- 1147 replies

Mine's on the way as well. Haven't paid attention to the tracking, but it's flying in soon. Off topic, I'm more excited about the Eotech Red dot and magnification set coming in. I bought the shapeways balls for the socket just in case.

working with 3D printed materials is a very tough challenge. If it's thick, no problem, but when one starts getting into 1/72 scale, things can get a little tricky. The 1/60 had issues as well, but has since been fixed and seems OK, as it was in a fixable part. This one, not so much. I know the trials from before, so fixing this will be no problem, AND, I'll have a better mold to use. I know most of you have been patient, and for that, I thank you very much. I hope you all trust me, when I say that I'm putting a lot of extra time when I can, into getting these done. A busy job isn't the best thing for projects like this, nor is the time of year. Nevertheless, I'm dedicated to getting it done, and shall do so.

I'm gonna make them all as good as can be. Not just the first, but all of those. Now, that said, I'm gonna be on hold a bit with recasting the large wings for several days, as the prototype piece broke, and I need to get another made for recast. I'm still working on all the other pieces, but there will be some on hold for now. The mold, using the moldstar 15, is a good mold, but a bit soft, and with the vigors of a one piece such as it is, the mold is not holding up to good standards. I have he Moldstar 30 still, which is much better, but until I get a new one, I wouldn't feel comfortable fixing this one to recast. It'd take awhile to fix to recast, and even then, it probably won't hold up for recasting two sides. I'm gonna see about getting one ASAP. As far as the other parts though, I'm on a roll. They're coming out as can be expected.

Awesome. Your work never ceases to amaze me.

Alright. I have a long weekend coming up, so I'm hoping to have 6 of these completed after monday's end. I know it's taking time, but I really don't want to send out parts that need way too much work. Speaking of, the mold of the 1/72 wing is starting to wear out already due to many recasts that didn't come out up to par. I'll be redoing that over the weekend most likely, so it'll be a minor hiccup in the chain. Other than that, other parts are still good and working fine. I should have them rolling out well. With the time change, I have less time to work when I get home, so that's one issue. Weather has been a bit of an issue as well, having to wait much longer for curing, but it doesn't have a toll on quality. Hope you guys are holding out OK. It's a one man operation, so it's a lot of work. I'll take a picture of the boxes that are going out. They are being put in cardboard boxes and bubble wrapped inside for secure hold in transit. Also, after I send them out, if you get one that has a part that is broken or any issues that I missed, send me a message, and I'll do what I can to rectify it. PMs will start going out this weekend for items sent out.

That's cool you have an extensive Ranka collection. I have some figures of her, but I collect Sheryl figures. Here's a few of them... Hmmm, strange I tried to put up the image, but no luck. I'll try this again later....
