I bought some of that stuff, but the super glue I have doesn't require it. It bonds hard, fast, and is thick. A good quality glue will negate the need for the accelorator. It gets messy anyways.

Yeah, a very good start. Send in more pics as you progress. This looks good.

If you putting decals over bottled acrylic paint, use the Tamiya flat Base after you put the decals on. If you are putting the decals on spray paint, buy Model Master Lusterless Flat coat, or the Testors Dull Coat. Those, in my opinion, work very strong, and make the decals look like they were painted on. Good stuff.

This game is off the hook!!! I am close to getting the VF's in the game. It's a hella cool game. You start off on the original Gundam ship, and from that, you end up travelling with the Nadesco. Seeing all the various anime mecha and characters is great to see. I plan to get to the Valkyrie mecha and let you know how it goes. As far as transforming the mecha, use controller 2 setup and that way, it's L1+R2 to transform.

OK, here are more pics, not the greatest, but they work. There's one in the A-stance. Enjoy, and all comments are welcome

The gundam hands were recasted by NightmareB4Macross. From what I understand on these, they are from the Zabe kit (probably didn't spell that right). They are posable and are on a ball joint. You just have to find a joint to put it in after you cut off the hands on the valk, and you have a perfectly new hand. I will also create the retracted hand shield when it's done, but gotta keep the slides because of the armor pieces.

That's part of the plan. Many of us here still do the chunky customs, but it's been silent for awhile now. Start on those customs and show them off. I love them. I will do one of these once I get the feet rotating. However, I will take a pic without the armor on in GERWALK, as the weight of the armor is a bit heavy for it. I'll get it here by tonight.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm glad you like it. so far, it's in a temporary "done" state. I have a few other mods I plan to do with it, and from there, I'll post more pics of the mods as they come along. Right now, I'm modding the hands with the Gundam posable hands. Next, I will be doing the posable feet. So, this will be a stretch from what I'm used to doing, but it will be a better piece than now, Hopefully.

Last one with the A-stance. As far as sanding the armor. It does come out very clean. However, this isn't the standard resin that most recasers use. From what I understand, once it cures, it cures very hard and solid, but expands. therefor, sanding is necessary to get things to fit into slots and the sort, but not too much sanding because of excess junk. These are probably the nicest recast I've ever worked with.

Here's the details: The armor parts were done by NighmareB4Macross. And they are a real solid and high quality recast. the decals are by Anasazi here as well, as I always use his sheets. The paint for the Valkyrie is simply the Tamiya Grey fine primer. that's all. The nose orange is Tamiya orange. the leg armor is a testor's hull blue or something like that. the fastpacks were dark ivory, also testors, and the radome is from a model master grey primer, slightly darker than the Tamiya primer. I used a Bandai reissue VF-1J Hikaru for the custom. I didn't want to use the round nose. Even as a kid, I could never stand the stubby nose. the pilots are two pilots from the 1/72 Hasegawa weapons set. they aren't detailed too much, but they make a decent addition to the custom. More pics will be coming today, when I can get back to my computer and add the pics.

Hope you like it. I'll post up more shortly, but here are just a couple. the upper leg was modded for the A-stance look. Let me know what you all think.

OK, My digital camera is dead right now, but good news. I have solidified all the extra parts, anchored in the pen pieces, and with great success, the pen tops work. Not only just work, but they are really solid, hold tons of weight, and only swivel if I want them to. Skull-1, it seems as though we may have thought of this idea around the same time. I had just finished my Ostrich custom, and was looking for Elintseeker parts to do extra mod work, when I was drawing out some designs with a bic pen, twisting it while thinking of a swivel mechanism. The idea of using the arm pieces I read in here are great, but knowing how solid and durable the pen tops are, I had to try that. It was only recently that I stumbled onto this thread, and realized, hey, a good idea and nobody's trying it. So, I have put the pen top test to work, and I can say as a very picky customizer,,, "SUCCESS"!!! I'll get some pics up very soon, as I need to charge my camera up. This may spark some others to try it, or to at least get the brains moving again in customizing 1/55s. Shoot, my 1/55 Bandai now moves like an MPC "Veritech", but doesn't have floppy leg syndrome.
-
WOW Minmaychan is hot!!! Beware of those with a foot fetish!!! Ryuji, are you gonna put up an order page? I want one of these, badly.
-
In the first of second page of this thread, someone posted about using BIC pen holders as the swivles. I'm surprised I didn't post in here earlier, but I was actually trying this process out before I saw this. I have been working on it for the past 2 days, and so far, the feet stay solid inside and connected. I will have to do some more strenuous testing, but so far, this idea to connect seems very promising. The fact that it keeps solid, and doesn't get floppy is a great sign. I'll post a how to if it works well. Updates to come very shortly.

Ps2 Battelcry Tournament Ax2006
Jasonc replied to Razor x's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Well, it definitely was one hell of a tourney. Last tourney we had in September, I was #2, but this year, with no practice in almost a year, I fell short and fast. But it's great to involve more people in the tournament. Next year will be in Long Beach, so we'll be doing it again, if we can get a budgeted rec room. And I'll have to play the game again so I remember the controls. Congrats to Mike, and great to see you on the boards Allie, and as for Dean, way to come back and fight for your spot. Good times. -
That's because I made it so late to the con. I had 3 to bring, but it gets nearly impossible when it's during the same time as A/X. But yeah, I can't wait to see Razor's custom as well. It should be one awesome toy when done. the big question is, once he's done, will he want to do more. It can be a long and time consuming task. But well worth it when it comes out right. As far as the decals, I would just use Anasazi. I don't know if anyone else out there is comparable. Perhaps so, but he's great in doing business with, so I look no further than him. And NB4Macross is a friend of mine, that's why I mentioned him. He did the Elintseeker set I have, and the recast seem more durable than the original parts.
-
Ryuji, do you have any updated pics? And, will this kit be sold?
-
Hey, Razor, I guess I can officially welcome you to the site The person you may want to send a pm to for decals would be Anasazi. He is the decal master and is the guy I trust for decals. For the VF-1A head, I'm sure there's a customizer or someone here who may have one laying around for sale. As for the strike fastpack, NightmareB4Macross may have made recast of it. His recast are great, and as someone I know personally, I'd trust him. If you pm him, tell him I sent you if he hasn't already read this. It's always good to see more people on the boards doing custom work. I know you've just barely begun, but when you get involved with the project, don't forget to post pics.

Man, so now I gotta pick what place I want to go in, since that's how it pretty much went down when I played you guys that one time. We'll have to see how the Vegas skills hold up. Alright Exo, I'll let my friend know he needs to front up the money. I'm sending my money in tomorrow, BTW.

I've handled the floodgates by working my @ss off in overtime, and making some good deals that let me buy what I wanted, even some of the trivial things. Right now, my collection is also in 1/55 scale, and a few 1/60 stuff, so the 1/48 rage I haven't had to worry about. I'm not much into that, but if I do get one, I know it'll be bad for me. There goes all my savings. I'm in a committed relationship, and my girlfriend is very supportive of my collection and toy habbits. She likes Macross, Robotech, Transformers, so I don't have to worry about hiding them from the girl and stuff. Some of her own collection is mixed in with mine as well, so it works out good. As far as being a completist or not, I'm not. I buy what I can, and I buy what I like. Anything to make the air base grow in number

Hey Exo, I have a friend from Denmark who's coming in and wants to play. Is there still room? If so, please put him down. He's a fan of Macross and is wanting to see the Macrossworld group. Let me know

Mwcon 2006 - Customs & Displays
Jasonc replied to nightmareB4macross's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
OK, here's what I have, but wont be done in time I think. I have a 1/55 VE-1 that's in progress, but not yet done. I'll bring the other old customs just for show, not for contest, and hopefully the Komilia will be done by then. Also, I have a 1/72 scale Ghost X-9 that I am trying to finish at the same time as all these. Man, I am just too damn busy. I hope I can get at least one of them done. Worse case scenario, is I put the VE-1 armor pieces on a standard Bandai, and just show the armor pieces. That would suck though, the decals really make these look great. -
MMMmmm! Minmay, yummie!!! This sculpt puts her in a whole different light.
