Yeah, that really sucks. It was coming along so well. But, why did you take down your VA alliance account? Are you getting completely out of doing any fandub projects? That's a bummer man, I really liked your work as well. Hopefully you'll still be around these boards?

I'm still trying to figure out how this thread got so far derailed from the prospect and chance of toys being made to arguments over the gun length. In anycase, while it's not the best Macross OVA, the mecha is definitely different, and unique compared to its counterparts. I've never had a problem with the large canon, the futuristic look of the Valkyrie. Should they make the VF-2SS, the 2JA, or even the Metal Siren, I'm in for any and all. But, that's just me, I like the odd mecha that isn't the most popular. I love the mecha from this series. Then again, I'd probably be first in line if Yamato made a 1/60 VA-3C

Aside from the comic book character bodies, and the ridiculous uniform in Shadow Chronicles, the characters were somewhat decent. My issue with the female designs was the fact that Maia has a thick @$$, thick thighs and waist, but from there up, she's slim. She looks a little bottom heavy, like a girl that you can tell if she goes on an eating binge, she's gonna be the chunky one in a few years. Actually, Ariel kinda has the same problem, not as prominent, but the boob job she got, and the wannabe Marvel uniform was just stupid. For JANICE, if she wasn't an android or whatever, I'd say she was ready for child bearing too, and was about to balloon herself. I've seen plenty of anime characters that have curves, but it looks firm. Shadow Chronicles women don't look like that. Macross F had better character designs, even with the females. They all may not have the super curves (although, points to Nanase, Grace, and Klan), but they don't look overly designed and "comic book-like" Don't go telling Tommy Yune that though, he'll probably blame the Koreans again.

I find it funny that some people resort to name calling when they don't have a logical argument for why they believe what they do, i.e. Robotech. Then, in posts here, he (Khyron Prime) appeals to the same people he bashes. I've met him before, and believe it or not, he's a nice guy, despite his tendencies for verbal trash throwing. On this site, I haven't met, or heard too many people talk negatively of the Robotech series as it was aired in 85. Aside from it's lack of ability to reestablish itself, and all the sad reinventions of itself, the original Robotech was alright. I find it sad that some Robotech fans have gotten so far involved into the politics, and the stupidity of "this vs. that", that they've forgotten that these are just cartoons. Talking about the dealings, and speculating is fine, and expressing opinions is fine, but that link with the nasty message is well over the top, and quite childish. Things like that give bad marks to Robotech fans. I'd feel the same if it was a Macross member.

This also helps in keeping Macross alive amongst the older and young fanbase. Just thought I'd send this here for a little lightening up for a bit.

As I've been reading the last page, there are a few things that I found that seperated RTSC from Frontier. First off, let me just say that I'm not just a mecha anime watcher, or just a Macross fan. I have roughly 400 anime titles at home, and I've seen about 95% of them. That said, there are some things I've noticed that seperated the good vs. decent vs. bad anime titles. Most titles with a good and decent rating by me (and overall by numerous other fansites and whatnot), is the fact that that they either have a great story, or great characters (visual and character development), or great action sequence. A lot of anime has had one or two of those basis present, and may lack in the other. These shows have still turned out well. With Macross Frontier, it incorporates all aspects mentioned, to create a complete and intriguing anime to watch. So much so, that it's present in the selling product. There's product for sale of the characters that we buy, also in the mecha. It's success as a story being told is evident in the creation of OVAs. The music and the amount of CDs being sold and popularity prove that even that was given to great detail. In looking at RTSC, it's been generally panned in all those areas mentioned above. And not by just MWers. What RavenHawk explained previously is generally shared by many, many people, save the few people still on rt.com. Somehow, even some of them realize it's vast shortcomings. I'm not gonna say it was all bad, I thought the BGM for RTSC was quite well done. Unfortunately, I know HG will not be using Scott Glasgow again. Ford Riley did what he could with what he was given, and to say he did a bad job in writing is directed in the wrong area. If you were given free reign to write a story, then basically dictated what it had to be for about 90% of it, would you still consider yourself as having free reign in writing? The voice actors did a fine job, but with script, it seems like RTSC was garbage in/garbage out. Even the best VAs around can't save a dry, poorly written scripts. To answer your question chrisk, those are the differences I see in a broad sense. Robotech does need to be seperated from from it's beginnings. Like Macross Frontier did, they created new just about everything, and still had moderate throwbacks to the original, which catered to older fans, and made good references for new fans to check the originals.

Agreed!!! I do like seeing uncommon things done, and this is one of the things that definitely stand out. Can't wait to see what you do later on.

Sounds awesome. I always like the female cosplay.

It seems like you took offense, and felt the need to defend yourself for something that seems people had a right to think. I would think that after many many months of no pics, a thread that was started in 07, and someone just saying that they're "working on it", would be vaproware also. If you thought that, as negative comments, they just seem more objective comments than anything. It's why people here post pics of work in progress, if even once a month, so that people still know that things are being worked on. I don't know, the post in trying to prove naysayers wrong seemed a bit off, and there seemed to be no need to "defend yourself". You probably should've let your finished product stand on its own. That would've been good enough.

The work on the helmet looks great. I never liked the design of the t.v. style helmet all that much. Now, if a Mospeada helmet was made, that's a different story. good work though. Being as this project has been going on for ever so long, I'd expect to see a decent looking product.

I'd love to get one of those for sure. Looks like a very nice book. Since my last post, I've picked up several more books, but it looks like they've already been posted I think.

Just read some of the details, very sad. My condolences to the family. A very sad day.

I'd be down for that. I'll put up what I've come up with for tabs that the sort, as well as links and music talk. Graham, or someone, can this be done?

LOL, I just so happened to lurk over there boards today, and found a post by that Pizza the Hutt guy. His comment went something like, "to all those that criticize Shadow Chronicles, stop hating on it" or something like that, was a good summation of the idiotic ideas and thought processes some of the uber fans have. No smart argument to support their views, no objective analysis. I read his empty, troll like posts, and just laughed at the idea that the fandom is just so out of control. As far as what Dougbendo has talked about that has been of interest, his debate with Treiz was quite funny to listen to, as was the Tom Bateman interview. That, was more informative for those that didn't know (more or less). Other than that, Robotech itself has dried itself up so much, there's absolutely nothing new to really talk about. Their policy of no information that they claimed was so good, and brilliant, seems to be biting them back. One big site, and like 5 or 6 people that talk in every thread. This isn't a bash on Robotech fans, as most I know are great people. It is too bad that the most vocal of all the fans are the ones who help ruin the franchise and give the rest a bad name. If there were some Macross fans that were like that, I'd stay away from them as well.
-
"I plan to take Robotech into a whole new direction"...WTF? You know, I listen to Dougbendo's site from time to time, but only when there's something worth hearing. Watching that takes Robotech further down its slipping slope. If you listen to it at 8:40, you'll see why Robotech's "new fan face" will probably bring its end. To be honest, I'd like to get back into enjoying Robotech. I'd like to see new mecha, an engaging story and what not, but Robotech gives me absolutely no reason to get back into it. At this point, Robotech as a whole has even driven away the people who helped keep it engaging, like Darkwater, and Captain JLS. While I disagreed with much of Captain JLS's comments in regards to the Macross franchise, as a Robotech fan now gone, that's a big blow to their fanbase. It seems like Dougbendo will make the attempt to take over that position. The problem with that is he has most Robotech fans against him, as he's very against the grain with the status quo of the fanbase.

Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Even more of a reason to go. I'm assuming with more people from the UCLA anime club, and with MW members, this is gonna be a large turnout. I sent my registration along with my wife. We'll be going. In regards to the Sheryl/Ranka duet, bring it!!! That's a selling point right there. Any cosplay this year? -
Wish I could answer that question with 100% assurance. What I do know is that the original helmets could be worn. Perhaps having these helmets will give me the ambition to make the flight suit to go with them. I was also looking at the other thread with the t.v. style helmet that was custom made. Not too bad over there. As far as Overdrive is concerned, they requested payment for the other two helmets by the 1st I believe. Don't know if they still are able to get anymore. Seeing them on the other site link posted on the previous page for over $600 is hard to swallow for anyone wanting these.

For question one, yes, even though...that's where the whole reimagining comes from. Do you honestly think they'd just redo everything exactly as it was back in the early 80s? Question 2, it's working out great. Haha, maybe oneday, I'll vouch for you too.

I can vouch for part of Freiflug's post about the movie. They definitely are going for a Macross Saga era movie. As far as a trilogy idea. I'm sure that's been thrown around as something they'd like to do, but it seems like they're just trying to figure out if they even want to make the first part. The problem with the all that, again, is the BW HG issue. I share the sentiments of hoping WB gets Macross items and shows over here, but has WB ever gon this route before, or stepped into the "anime realm" in distribution? That I don't know. It'd be cool to have a Macross Frontier, Macross Zero in a good dub hit the states. I don't expect it to happen either, as I don't really think Tommy would like having Macross come over here. I think they just do the whole "if we could get it over here, we would" in regards to Macross to get the Macross fans off their back. Macross does provide some competition for Robotech, so having them have that out, or having a big corp. like WB bring it over wouldn't necessarily help the Robotech franchise too much.

I'll PASS!!! Not that weathering isn't cool, but the generic weathering they put on it just looks fake. If it looked more realistic (afterall, that's the point of the weathering), I'd be on it. Just doesn't wow me.

The one thing that Robotech is trying to get rid of "tactfully", is the same thing that gives it it's roots. Robotech will never stand on it's own while it uses someone else's designs and lacks the originality to stand on its own. They simply wrote out all the Macross characters in the comics, except some detached, unrelated geriatric version of "Rick Hunter". I have the comics you speak of, and thought of them more as a simple solution to complex problems in regards to the Macross characters. As for the VF-1R, I think it was called the YF-1R for Robotech. Don't quote me on that. I never understood why it was even made as a Robotech canon veritech. What they should've done is simply redo the fastpack armor or even do something like the Platypus Valkyrie custom.

I am in the same position of wanting other Yamato product like the Valkyries and such. My reasoning is that these helmets are hard to get, and won't be around for a long time in the market. While they are available, I'd rather get the hard to find stuff, then worry about the stuff that will be around for awhile afterward. They won't be out till August supposedly (from what I remember), but it'll pay off later when I can finally afford the Valkyries after receiving these rare jems. I'm especially looking forward to the Max Jenius helmet. Love the blue.

THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
Jasonc replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
You guys need to get some paint, airbrushes, and start customizing some toys with these color jobs, cause they are just bad@$$!!! You guys got talent. -
Alright, got an update. I just ordered the Max and Roy helmets, so I have ordered all 3. The Hikaru helmet is completely paid for now, the Roy and Max just need a 2nd payment. Did anyone else crazy enough, cave in and buy any of these?
