LOL, I just so happened to lurk over there boards today, and found a post by that Pizza the Hutt guy. His comment went something like, "to all those that criticize Shadow Chronicles, stop hating on it" or something like that, was a good summation of the idiotic ideas and thought processes some of the uber fans have. No smart argument to support their views, no objective analysis. I read his empty, troll like posts, and just laughed at the idea that the fandom is just so out of control. As far as what Dougbendo has talked about that has been of interest, his debate with Treiz was quite funny to listen to, as was the Tom Bateman interview. That, was more informative for those that didn't know (more or less). Other than that, Robotech itself has dried itself up so much, there's absolutely nothing new to really talk about. Their policy of no information that they claimed was so good, and brilliant, seems to be biting them back. One big site, and like 5 or 6 people that talk in every thread. This isn't a bash on Robotech fans, as most I know are great people. It is too bad that the most vocal of all the fans are the ones who help ruin the franchise and give the rest a bad name. If there were some Macross fans that were like that, I'd stay away from them as well.

"I plan to take Robotech into a whole new direction"...WTF? You know, I listen to Dougbendo's site from time to time, but only when there's something worth hearing. Watching that takes Robotech further down its slipping slope. If you listen to it at 8:40, you'll see why Robotech's "new fan face" will probably bring its end. To be honest, I'd like to get back into enjoying Robotech. I'd like to see new mecha, an engaging story and what not, but Robotech gives me absolutely no reason to get back into it. At this point, Robotech as a whole has even driven away the people who helped keep it engaging, like Darkwater, and Captain JLS. While I disagreed with much of Captain JLS's comments in regards to the Macross franchise, as a Robotech fan now gone, that's a big blow to their fanbase. It seems like Dougbendo will make the attempt to take over that position. The problem with that is he has most Robotech fans against him, as he's very against the grain with the status quo of the fanbase.

Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Even more of a reason to go. I'm assuming with more people from the UCLA anime club, and with MW members, this is gonna be a large turnout. I sent my registration along with my wife. We'll be going. In regards to the Sheryl/Ranka duet, bring it!!! That's a selling point right there. Any cosplay this year? -
Wish I could answer that question with 100% assurance. What I do know is that the original helmets could be worn. Perhaps having these helmets will give me the ambition to make the flight suit to go with them. I was also looking at the other thread with the t.v. style helmet that was custom made. Not too bad over there. As far as Overdrive is concerned, they requested payment for the other two helmets by the 1st I believe. Don't know if they still are able to get anymore. Seeing them on the other site link posted on the previous page for over $600 is hard to swallow for anyone wanting these.

For question one, yes, even though...that's where the whole reimagining comes from. Do you honestly think they'd just redo everything exactly as it was back in the early 80s? Question 2, it's working out great. Haha, maybe oneday, I'll vouch for you too.

I can vouch for part of Freiflug's post about the movie. They definitely are going for a Macross Saga era movie. As far as a trilogy idea. I'm sure that's been thrown around as something they'd like to do, but it seems like they're just trying to figure out if they even want to make the first part. The problem with the all that, again, is the BW HG issue. I share the sentiments of hoping WB gets Macross items and shows over here, but has WB ever gon this route before, or stepped into the "anime realm" in distribution? That I don't know. It'd be cool to have a Macross Frontier, Macross Zero in a good dub hit the states. I don't expect it to happen either, as I don't really think Tommy would like having Macross come over here. I think they just do the whole "if we could get it over here, we would" in regards to Macross to get the Macross fans off their back. Macross does provide some competition for Robotech, so having them have that out, or having a big corp. like WB bring it over wouldn't necessarily help the Robotech franchise too much.

I'll PASS!!! Not that weathering isn't cool, but the generic weathering they put on it just looks fake. If it looked more realistic (afterall, that's the point of the weathering), I'd be on it. Just doesn't wow me.

The one thing that Robotech is trying to get rid of "tactfully", is the same thing that gives it it's roots. Robotech will never stand on it's own while it uses someone else's designs and lacks the originality to stand on its own. They simply wrote out all the Macross characters in the comics, except some detached, unrelated geriatric version of "Rick Hunter". I have the comics you speak of, and thought of them more as a simple solution to complex problems in regards to the Macross characters. As for the VF-1R, I think it was called the YF-1R for Robotech. Don't quote me on that. I never understood why it was even made as a Robotech canon veritech. What they should've done is simply redo the fastpack armor or even do something like the Platypus Valkyrie custom.

I am in the same position of wanting other Yamato product like the Valkyries and such. My reasoning is that these helmets are hard to get, and won't be around for a long time in the market. While they are available, I'd rather get the hard to find stuff, then worry about the stuff that will be around for awhile afterward. They won't be out till August supposedly (from what I remember), but it'll pay off later when I can finally afford the Valkyries after receiving these rare jems. I'm especially looking forward to the Max Jenius helmet. Love the blue.

THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
Jasonc replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
You guys need to get some paint, airbrushes, and start customizing some toys with these color jobs, cause they are just bad@$$!!! You guys got talent. -
Alright, got an update. I just ordered the Max and Roy helmets, so I have ordered all 3. The Hikaru helmet is completely paid for now, the Roy and Max just need a 2nd payment. Did anyone else crazy enough, cave in and buy any of these?

2nd you tube link is simply adorable the Thailand cosplay was also very nice, topnotch. Perhaps I'll get a blonde fro and do Bobby for AX 09, or just sport the Hikaru outfit once

Great news regarding hlj. It's good to see that a company I buy so much product from them, it'd be nice to see what they hook up for the con. -
Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.5
Jasonc replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Those exclusive additions are awesome. Too bad they're like $100. I'm so far behind on collecting, I'm just gonna go at my own pace now, instead the pace at which all these things are coming out in. I can't keep buying 5 and 6 versions of the same thing all the time. -
To answer that question, I've never understood why either, except, maybe there aren't a lot of musicians here. I've figureed out quite a few songs, but other than that, every thread I've seen in regards to actual music has usually up to about 5 people only that post. It'd be cool to just have one thread that has all tabs, transcriptions, vocals, etc for the music. It'd be a great way for anyone to contribute, and get info, maybe even talk music style and how to play stuff. It's a great idea.

Hmmm, the Zentraedi Seven Dwarfs. I can see Breetai with a cone hat, big loafers, a red work shirt, fat belt, and some tights whistling off to the mines. When it comes to RT fans, I'd have to vouch for many of them. Many are very hospitable, helpful, nice, and fun to hang out with. It's generally agreeable that there are the few who give the rest a bad name. Let alone the fact that Kevin gives Robotech a bad name on his own, some fans like Treiz basically utter and repeat that same bad name in his words and actions. There's been a shift in the mods as well, from mostly decent mods who were more easy going, to a more HG nazi police squad. Most of the mods I knew there when I was there are either not there anymore, or at least no longer post, so that's why the sense of hostility from staff and mods. As far as the VF-1 is concerned, what has the rt world done differently with specs on it compared to the Macross canon? I'm curious, cause I simply never researched this in depth.
-
In regards to me, no, I never worked for HG. Just doing a little research into the company can turn up all sorts of info on what they do, sister companies, and all the other non-anime related stuff. HG's biggest income, I don't know what is for sure, but what I did say is yes, HG does have quite a name as far as real estate. They also make money on the movies side of things, but I don't even know what all that is. From what has been hinted to me by several HG staff members before, Robotech is like an orphaned boy who lives in a big house that sees him as the oddball, or black sheep of the family. While I'm sure it brings in some money from time to time, I don't think it's on a level that the company considers substantial. Seto, if the mods decide to ban you, that'd be a travesty for them. Sefrette and Maverick are just mods who have the job cause they do as Steve and Tommy do, and support the franchise to a fault. I don't think there's anything in the TOU there that says you can't be annoying.

I have no problems with an "improvement". Although we can all say, "yeah bad Yamato for not doing this to start", many, many of us have been praising the 1/60 v.2, so just think of it as a reason to praise it more.
-
If this is supposed to be the new "low-vis" for the 1/60 line, I'll definitely pass. I'd like to see the original 1/48 low vis done in 1/60 scale. I just don't find anything to say "Wow" over on the dark grey 1S. I'm just picking and choosing right now, as I can wait for a bit on these. They are just being released too damn fast.
-
Very cool stuff. I definitely like the dark Legioss lineart in there. BTW, when did those DVDs get released?
-
I wouldn't go that far. As far as I've always been concerned, Robotech has, and always will be, a novelty franchise. While it was creative how they were able to mend unmatching series together for syndication, original Robotech's creativity really only seemed to stem from the original plots. Robotech vs. the original 3 series was different, but for the lameman, there's not much. Thus, the reason why every attempt at producing a new Robotech has been either unsuccessful, or a piece of crap feature. My statement there was an attempt at at least giving someone some credit over there. It is comical if you are indeed correct in this statement.
-
Thanks for posting up those DVD liners, they are pretty cool. I just put one of my Mospeada books on the scanner, and started putting them on a thumb drive. I'm sure most, if not all of you have the book, but if you don't, I'll put up a couple scans of it soon. One of them Is of a small poster. Akim, nice lineart pics of the dinosaurs. Cool stuff.

Tom Bateman ran the store, so that doesn't take any excessive qualifications. As for his work with conventions and all the work he did with that for HG, the success of his "fan convention" that you mentioned speaks for that. As for Alan Letz, I don't know much about him, so I couldn't tell much more about his background. He could've been qualified for his position, could've been a fluke as well. who knows. Steve may be qualified as his job is web site admin. But I would agree on the point that what is left now, there is nobody decent enough to do what needs to be done. Sometimes, talent doesn't doesn't come from "being qualified" as well. Everyone's gotta start somewhere, with something. Then again, people also need to know when to bow out with at least a little face.
-
Having a wife who supports my hobby partially is very nice. My "expendable" income used to be in real estate, and hopefully, that'll come back sometime later this year or sometime next year. Till then, I am selling stuff I definitely can do without to get things I can probably do without, but want more than the others Other than those, I rely on getting my pay grade increases to help support my habbit. Someone, stop the insanity!!!

Are you serious??? Are the fans that deprived that they have done that? Precious!!!
